Public appearances and other forms of cashing in ..

Ahha! I suppose we should be glad that you do, in fact, recognise that other countries exist onthe planet! With your mind set you might have been happier had the founding fathers had modelled on the French Judicial system, where the defendant is guilty and has to prove innocence I seem to recall!!
One of the greatest things the internet has given us, the people of this planet, is the ability to learn more about other cultures and countries. Rather sad to collide with such an insular attitude.

By the way Jason is already well on his way getting the education he needs in order to get a law degree! Someone with his experience and integrity is seriously needed as an advocate for minors.

I have to admit to being rather confused at the American Education system as it seems children can graduate! Over here students are undergraduates right up until they have obtained their academic degrees at Universities.

I can actually vote here and make changes to laws, but if I were a non-US citizen or a felon I could not....

Baldwin would have to attend school for years before he could even get into law school and then pass the bar. I sort of doubt that will happen especially since he has to take off time to write a book. Doesn't seem like he got what it would take to finish the programs.

I don't see why this matters. Many people go to school because they simply want to. I always got the impression he is studying law so he knows the law. Also from what I understand, he studied law in prison. If the prison offered college classes, he had plenty of time to obtain some kind of degree or enough class hours to count towards a degree.

IIRC, Jason did take college classes while incarcerated (after obtaining his GED). Damien, OTOH, being on Death Row, wasn't allowed to do so. Damien had obtained his GED prior to incarceration, however. I believe he would be allowed to attend college now, if he so chose. Jessie has not been able to obtain his GED to my knowledge. However, again from what I've heard, Jessie was planning to attend classes at a local community college in Auto Mechanics (not academic classes as some have implied), which is a common course of study offered at community colleges. In fact, community colleges offer all sorts of classes that are not academic in nature, but they offer academic classes as well. (Sorry, I just had to plug community colleges. I think they are some of our most overlooked assets.)

You forgot the other group of Americans denied the right to vote! Native Americans who are proud of their background and are able to prove that they are indeed of that blood-line. The indigenous inhabitants who were dispossessed.

I do support those who have broken the laws of the land being deprived of the right to vote for the people who make those laws whilst they are serving time. However, once released and free again if deprived of that right then it is hardly unexpected if they have no real regard for those law makers and laws!

Surprisingly enough citizens over here can vote in our elections too, as is the case in most all of the democratic free world!

Native Americans have had voting rights since long before my dear departed Cherokee great-grandmother was born.

I am sorry if I got it wrong! I was led to believe that if a minimum of 1/32th(or 1/16th) of Native American blood could be proven by 'family tree' birth records etc then the person can apply to be registered with the 'rights' to live on reservation land etc.. BUT whilst they do not then have to pay federal taxes they are also deprived of the right vote! Look at how the casinos etc are 'owned' by the Seminola (spelling?) tribe! They even bought that HardRock franchise in Florida - I met the musician who is a registered Cherokee through the guy who started the Hard Rock, way back when, in London!

I was so appalled to learn of the loss of voting rights that he sent me the scanned page of the Constitution were it is so written. But it is on an old pc that died! And I can not remember the number of the ammendment or whatever...

Was your great grand-mother a registered member of the Cherokee nation? Are you? If you do not mind me asking.

While technically true that does not mean that the Native Americans actually could vote depending on the state and the year.

Up until 1957 some states still barred Native Americans from voting.

And this is way OT.

This is about what was the entry point on this case, Not arguing for or against any of it.

I think this is actually the thread concerning public appearances. But I had to check several times to remind myself of the thread topic. As usual in this forum.

Just to be clear, I'm not implying you derail threads. Quite the opposite.

Apologies for going off on a tangent! Just sometimes it is so hard to leave something just 'hanging'!
I have the feeling that JB will use his life experiences to date for the benefit of a great many other people.

Please don't apologize! I find your posts thoughtful and intelligent. I have the same questions as you regarding that particular tangent. Of all the forums I read at WS, this one seems to experience the most thread derailment, IMO. I honestly do have to check the actual thread topic while I'm reading, lol!

And I agree with you regarding JB. I thought his idea of using kickstarter was great.

Wow. Was that meant to be journalism?

IMO, The Evening Times has proven time and time again that it is definitely not journalism but more akin to sensationalism! Some of the "articles" published therein back in '93 and '94 are simply laughable, especially given what we know today. Personally, I wouldn't believe a word published therein, except for, maybe, weather highs and lows and sunset/sunrise info!

I thought anything on word press was actually a blog-personal opinion.

IIRC, there was a newspaper, published in West Memphis, called The Evening Times which ran many articles back in the day that were less than flattering to Damien, Jason and Jessie. That paper was what I was referencing earlier. I believe it is now defunct and this (apparent) blog is the replacement. Am I wrong?

I happened to read that blog. I found it most enlightening. I came into this case believing that the WM3 were guilty. I did some research and thought that maybe they were wrongly convicted. I did a lot more research and now I am convinced that at least two of the WM3 are guilty.

I don't believe Jason is guilty, however, I do believe Damien and Jessie are guilty. I am not going to go into details, it is just a feeling I have after years of research.

tezi, I'm interested in your thoughts as to how DE and JM are guilty. Maybe for another thread?

I will get into it when I have more time. Jason is the only one that really had an verifiable alibi for that night.
