Ramifications for PSU Football

Bill O'Brien's name is getting mentioned for several NFL head coaching jobs. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/01/01/report-bill-obrien-strongly-considering-nfl-interviews/

I believe he has something like a 9 million dollar buyout if he wants to leave. One source states that it's closer to 19 million. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/penn-state-nittany-lions-bill-obrien-big-buyout-for-interested-nfl-teams-010113

I've read rumors that he's considering suing the university to escape the buyout on the grounds that he was told that the Sandusky situation was strictly a criminal matter and not a NCAA matter. He would really have to be a masochist to hang around for the sanctions to take effect. Or he could just be an honorable fellow. But I think the university will have to give him a raise.

Former Nittany Lion Matt McGloin Impressive in First NFL Start

http://victorybellrings.com/2013/11/17/former-nittany-lion-matt-mcgloin-impressive-first-nfl-start/

McGloin, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Raiders, saw his first professional action on Sunday when he filled in for the injured Terrelle Pryor. McGloin led the Raiders to a 28-23 road victory over the Houston Texans.

McGloin played a big part in the Oakland victory and looked impressive as a first-time starter. He completed 18-of-32 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns.

Bill O'Brien, Texans working on deal

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...working-deal-become-houston-texans-head-coach

Bill O'Brien has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to become the next coach of the Houston Texans, and the two sides are working to get a deal in place within the next week, league sources told ESPN.

O'Brien met with the Texans this week after Christmas at his home in Cape Cod, resulting in intensified discussions they hope will culminate with a finalized contract, the sources said.......more.......

Wow. The crew of ESPN's College Gameday hammered the "Joe Paterno segment of the Penn State fans" today. They blamed the Paterno loyalists for driving off O'Brien. Said Penn State's next head coach won't be as good as O'Brien.

“You can print this: You can print that I don’t really give a —- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program,” he (O'Brien) said. “I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.

"Joebots wreck Nittany Lions football" would be a good summary of his comments. WOW!

Perhaps this will change some fans minds.

OmG.....really what can you say about the insularity of this program and its black heart adherents? This is frome the above opinion piece:

I
think David Jones got it right:*Bill O’Brien was an OUTSIDER, and maybe he never really got inside.* Maybe he never really understood what it meant to be a stater.

perhaps the ncaa made a mistake when it failed to kill this program.

I know. Some people think being a "stater" means Paterno above all other things. The PSU 3 thought so.

Keep in that I am a life member of the Alumni Association when I say this: These people are sick!

Sadly, the fire-eaters give the impression that they represent the majority of Penn State fans and alumni to "outsiders." I know that's not the case, but only because I've encountered the more rational PSU fans. Be patient. Eventually, the passionate minority will run out of gas.

The coaching search will be interesting. I'm not even sure who's going to make the decision. Aren't the current AD and President due to be replaced here soon?

There has been a problem with the presidential search.

The AD, I think, does not have a "term" as it where. He can be hired by the BoT.

The problem is that the minority can muster a plurality of votes in the elections for alumni BoT positions.

Very sad that there are people who are still very loyal to Joe Paterno. Penn State needs a clean slate with fresh faces. Out with the old, in with the new.
