Such a sad, sad case... I believe 99.9% that these precious children are now part of a human trafficking ring and have left the island. May God watch over them... Perhaps they will be found and rescued - there's always hope.

:praying:

The bones were not Faloma or Meleina's, but apparently they may belong to a family member...

This case worries me so much. My heart aches to think of what these girls may be going through.

Sadly, I believe they were taken for the sex industry.

That is strange. Would that be the same guy as mentioned here?

Quitugua was charged with assault, criminal trespass, and disturbing the peace for allegedly threatening to harm a woman and refusing to leave the residence of the victim on March 1, 2006 on Saipan.

Why did he receive death threats from his neighbors?

The police thought the girls wouldn't just get into a car with a stranger. How well did he know the girls?

Sounds from the articles posted here that there are some shady characters with vendettas/vendettas against them within the extended family (NOT the parents and grandparents). They may have had a dispute with the grandparents/parents but were recognized by the girls, who considered them safe since they are related. I hope LE is looking closely into the extended family and possible issues within the family.

I hope the Luhk sisters are safe and are found soon!

Search for Saipan sisters continues

This year was filled with headlines of death, corruption and failure, but perhaps the most tragic story came from Guam's closest neighbor, where Faloma and Maleina Luhk, ages 10 and 9, disappeared one morning in May without leaving a single clue.

"Investigation remains open, but the leads are few and far between," said FBI spokesman Tom Simon in December. "If new leads pop up, we get together with police and ... run them down. But at this point, with no confession from a suspect, no eyewitnesses to the crime and no living or dead victims, there is not much else we can do other than continue to appeal to the public for help."

Luhk sisters' family urges DPS to probe Mafnas

The family of the missing sisters Faloma and Maleina Luhk is urging the Department of Public Safety to investigate whether Ramon C. Mafnas as DPS commissioner also intervened in the investigation of the case.

Elbert Quitugua, grandfather of the Luhk sisters, told Saipan Tribune that the family is now puzzled and worried if there was also a discrepancy as a result of Mafnas' micromanagement of the case.

AG should 'grill' Mafnas, says missing girls' grandparent

THE Attorney General’s Office should look into Department of Public Safety Commissioner Ramon C. Mafnas’s obstruction of the investigation in the case of the missing Luhk sisters, according to the girls’ grandparent.

“They should grill [Mafnas] who obstructed the investigation,” Elbert Quitugua told Variety.

Today, family members mark the 11 months that Faloma and her sister Maleina Luhk have been missing.

One year later, still no leads in Luhk case

Paper fliers still hang in some storefronts in Saipan, aged by one year but still no less tragic.

Exactly one year ago, two young sisters -- Faloma and Maleina Luhk, ages 10 and 9 -- vanished from a bus stop in the village of As Teo, about 100 yards from their grandparent's house.

Still no leads 1 year after young Saipan sisters were last seen waiting at school bus stop

It's been a year since two sisters were last seen waiting for a school bus in their Saipan village, prompting a massive search involving local authorities form the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the FBI and volunteers.

The disappearance of the two children from the small, close-knit island immediately sparked a search that entailed canvassing jungles, searching abandoned buildings and digging through 30,000 cubic feet of the island's trash. Saipan has a population of about 60,000. While there is a crystal meth problem, the violent crime rate is very low.

There are still no hard leads in the disappearance of 10-year-old Faloma Luhk and her 9-year-old sister, Maleina Luhk.

Disappearance of Luhk sisters marks 3rd year

May 23, 2014

This weekend marks the third year of the mysterious disappearance of sisters Faloma and Maleina Luhk in As Teo, with still no trace of the minors.

Quitugua said the last time he heard from the Department of Public Safety about the investigation was over a year ago.

He said the Federal Bureau of Investigation, on the other hand, has been persistent in trying to find his granddaughters and has been contacting him now and then.
