Sandusky (and Dorothy) Future

"Working off the brief mention on an Internet forum where people chatted about Penn State athletics, according to the two people with knowledge of the case, investigators narrowed their list of coaches likely to have seen something to Mike McQueary, then an assistant coach and the football program’s recruiting coordinator."
This was in 2010.

Somebody tipped off Parks Miller, the Centre DA who told the AG, rightly. I don't think they knew the AG was investigating and thought it was her.

They didn't, according to the presentment.

I wonder when Penn State would admit to first learning about the Sandusky investigation that led to the Grand Jury and eventually to his convictions?

The "Big Four" testified in January 2011 based on subpoenas they received in December of 2010. But Juniata College was notified in June 2010, as a result of a background check, that Sandusky was under criminal investigation, although they didn't know the full nature of the investigation.

How likely is it that Juniata Athletic Director Greg Curley didn't pick up the phone and ask his Penn State counterpart (and his uncle) Tim Curley about it in June?

Besides, Sara Ganim heard from her source back in 2009 that a boy had made allegations against Sandusky. Ganim was the crime reporter for the CDT at the time - her source was likely to have LE ties, which would mean Harmon should have heard, which makes it likely that someone in PSU administration should have heard (Schultz might not have been there, as he first retired in June of 09)

I think Harmon had retired by that point. Still there were rumors, obviously.

TSM was aware of allegations at least as early as 2008: http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/second_mile_executive_katherin.html
"The Patriot-News has learned that, in 2008, Second Mile executive Katherine Genovese told a person in authority that the charity already had concerns about Sandusky and certain boys."

"Concerns" are not allegations.

If Genovese at TSM (and probably her husband the CEO) were 'concerned'
about JS's relationship with certain boys back in 2008, why are they not charged with not reporting suspected abuse?

They don't have to have proof to make a complaint. Especially since they both worked with TSM and were directly responsible for the welfare of the children in the care of that organization. So they both met the old outdated requirement to report even then.

TSM needs to be held accountable for his continued abuse of the children right under their noses, even tho their heads were turned so they could not see what they didn't want to see. After all, JS was the big draw for the org to get parents to send their children there and to get those hefty donations....sickening what these 2 and more in charge there have gotten away with, along with the state caseworkers who glossed over their investigation in 1998 and who continued to place children in that house of horrors.

All IMO

Interesting the rumor of Jerry Sandusky being under investigation in 2010 happened around the time he retired from The Second Mile. The two forums I linked with the forum are posted around that time.

Second Mile founder retires

"Concerns" are not allegations.

No, but couple the stories of Genovese reportedly telling someone that they had to tell Jerry to "back off" of certain kids, with the meeting Curley had with Raykovitz in 2001, and those concerns should have been bright red flags.

And if Lauro had done his job and developed a written safety plan with the Second Mile as he was required to do, the dots might have connected even more quickly.

Once that determination of unfounded was reached, there would have no plan in effect. It might have triggered someone's memory in 2001, but maybe not. Raykovitz might have though it was more innocent fun.

Had Lauro actually done an independent investigation, it might have been different.

That is not necessarily the case. The plan may have included ongoing supervision of Sandusky's interactions with youths, education about appropriate behavior with clients, and may have required the agency to develop their own plan that would have remained on file even after the DPW investigation ended.

Besides, as a children's agency with ties to Centre Co C&Y, an investigation into their founder would have been a big deal, and not something easily forgotten. We are outraged that Curley, Schultz, Spanier and Paterno didn't do more in 2001 after knowing that Sandusky was investigated in 98 - imagine what we would have expected from Dr. Raykovitz in 2001 if TSM were properly notified in 1998?

Son of Jerry Sandusky seeks to have name changed

http://www.centurylink.net/news/rea...p-son_of_jerry_sandusky_seeks_to_have_name-ap

Matt Sandusky filed papers Tuesday in Centre County Court seeking to have the names of him and his family changed. Though the documents are sealed, they show he filed for a name change, along with his wife and four children.

Matt Sandusky had been expected to be a defense witness until the trial, when he told investigators that he also had been abused by Jerry Sandusky.

Some of his case here has merit. Basically, the state has to claim that it is job related. Their "TSM was almost associated with PSU" is sort of a hard argument to make.

Without Sandusky's relationship to PennState he would have had no stature at Second Mile. He traded on that ....perhaps that is the argument the State will make in fighting the pension?

He'd still be the founder, and had a great deal of clout under the bylaws of TSM.

I hope you don't mind if I quote a few things, J. J. I'll be glad when we can see this film:

In his first public comments, Matt Sandusky shared his story in “Happy Valley,” a 100-minute-long film premiering Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. He said his participation in the film was the first step for him to come out of the shadow of the scandal and advocate for survivors — including himself.......

“Happy Valley” is directed by Amir Bar-Lev and poses questions such as whether Jerry Sandusky’s abuse of young boys was an “open secret” in State College. In a short preview of the film on the Sundance website, filmmakers said it explores the identity crisis that ensued here and goes on to uncover a “much more complicated and tragic tale.”........

As Matt Sandusky moves to put the dark history behind him, he is looking to carve out a new niche as an advocate. He said he will start a nonprofit organization, based in State College, that will focus on educating and advocacy for abuse survivors. It will have a national reach, too.

He said he plans to write and do speaking engagements, as well.

“It is a passion now,” he said of being an advocate. “It is something I am determined to do.

“My ultimate hope is to empower other survivors.”

Good for him....he's taken the power back!
