It cost R3 million to bring Shien back to SA. Authorities deemed it 'unsafe' to carry him by public transport.

Media have certainly run with the sex texts - and nearly all saying it's disasterous for the prosecution case. I don't understand how the information got out, if everyone has been banned from speaking about the case?

I've read that Anni and her cousin who she sent the msgs to have Swedish as their native language, and they may have communicated in that?

Dewani made a brief appearance in court, and case postponed until May 12.

And a bed squeak has caused Shien Dewani to have a breakdown in the psychiatric hospital??

This case is quite surreal. I'll come back tomorrow, in case I'm dreaming now.

Any news on whether this case is still going ahead for the 12th May? I've googled but can't find anything ..

Who is the prosecutor? I hope it is Gerrie Nel!

'His condition has improved, but he still lacks the ability to concentrate for any length of time'

Dewani's lawyer is Francoise van Zyl, who says Dewani has been 'fully co-operative, but treating doctors don't see him for more than 30 mins at a time.'
Judge is John Hopthle.

Here is a link another poster linked in the OP trial. Obviously, it turned out there was nothing to report on Dewani today, but it sums up what's happened so far, and also menions SA authorities have confiscated his ipad and iphone.

The case has been adjourned to June 20th.

Gay, impotent, partaking of gay M+S sex. I remember anothercase of a gay Indian man marrying because it was expected of him and the wife being killed also.
My brain's not working at moment can't recall anymore than that at the moment.

In cases of these men marrying to preserve their good name behind it is a woman whose
Life has been ruined.

Will be interesting to see how the defence counteracts the allegations of M.S. JMOO

From the website:

"In the Panorama documentary aired in 2013, the BBC have flouted standards of decent behaviour, which is why we have worked to expose how biased that presentation was. "

The original hour-long BBC Panorama program aired on BBC1 (UK) on September 20, 2013, entitled “The Honeymoon Murder: Who Killed Anni? You can watch it here:

New to this thread but been following this case through the media.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-28801378

Pre-trial hearing on 9 September.

[Anni's sister] Ami Denborg, said: "It's a relief for all of us. We've been waiting quite a long time for this.

"I know this autumn is going to be tough for us, but we still want the trial to start so that we can get the information we need, we can get to know what really happened.

"It feels like we're moving forward. It's still a long way to go but at least we're taking steps in the right direction, and this feels like a huge step in the right direction."

I hope justice can speedily be done now.

Extradited honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani appears in South African court ahead of trial over his wife's death PUBLISHED: 01:28 AEST, 10 September 2014

Dewani appeared at court in Cape Town ahead of full trial in October

He is accused of ordering hitmen to kill his wife Anni, 28, in 2010

The pair were honeymooning in South Africa when their taxi was hijacked

Gunmen jumped them in a poor township, killed Anni but let Dewani go

He faced an extradition battle but was taken to South Africa this year

Needed to have mental health assessment, but was deemed fit to stand trial

Anni Dewani's Family Prepare for Murder Trial

Anni Dewani's family will be flying to CapeTown in the coming days ahead of the Oct 6 trial
http://ewn.co.za/2014/09/29/Anni-Dewanis-family-prepare-for-murder-trial

I cannot help feeling sorry for Anni's family who like Reeva Steenkamp's family just want to know the truth. “All we need from our side is justice for Anni. We want to know the truth.”

"Dewani was extradited to South Africa from the United Kingdom in April after a lengthy legal battle.

He was only deemed mentally fit to plead last month.

Deputy Judge President Jeanette Traverso will preside over the trial, which is scheduled to begin on 6 October.

She's regarded as the most senior female judge in the province."

Even though I am resident in the UK, I purposely have read hardly anything about this case (we don't take newspapers) and come to it with absolutely no preconceived ideas. My knowledge is gleaned only from TV news reports. I have chosen not to watch the Panorama program that has been mentioned upthread. This is exactly how I approached the OP Trial, ie with virtually no knowledge of him other than he was an athlete for whom I had admiration at overcoming his disability. Well, how things have changed.

I shall be interested to see how soon I lean one way or the other with respect to his guilt or innocence. I looked today to see if the trial will be televised. I gather the wife's family would like it televised but the judge has to OK this. After the recent OP debacle one wonders whether cameras will be allowed in. On looking for an answer to the TV question I came up with the following info. I chose only to read to where I found the comment about the trial being televised but noted there was obviously much more to the piece. I really don't want to try and prejudge the case but am eager to hear the evidence when the trial starts.
