Just posted this in the media thread . . .

Steven Powell won't be released on 5/23/13. . . .after serving less than a year on his 2 1/2 yr sentence.

"To get out early, inmates must submit an acceptable release plan. Lewis says the state is still reviewing Powell's proposed plan. If it's approved, the state still requires 35 days to allow staff to notify victims and local law enforcement."

Steven Powell can't return to home due to community concerns

The Washington Department of Corrections says Steven Powell cannot move back into his old neighborhood where the crimes he was convicted of took place.

-----------------

According to Powell's offender release plan, obtained by KSL through a public records request, the Washington Department of Corrections has denied his request to return to live in his Puyallup home because of community concerns.

------------------

Powell also wrote in a letter dated April 15 that if he wasn't allowed to move back home, he would consider simply living in his van.

That was my dearest hope. He has to have a fixed address, right?

If a release plan is never approved, Powell would still get out of prison in April of 2014, the maximum time on his sentence.
One more year behind bars. That works for me.

Part of me would rather see him in his same home because at least everyone there knows who he is and that he's a creeper and to stay away from him. I don't live there though so that's easy for me to say and I understand how his neighbors would feel.

If he moves, then chances are he will end up somewhere and people will not be aware of his past. If he lives in his van he will be considered a transient. There are many transient sex offenders that are not considered absconders.

I can't even begin to express my opinion of this blob of flesh walking around in society.

A sex offender, doesn't always have to have a fixed address.
In many states many are homeless because there aren't places they are legally and financially able to live.

But for his offender RELEASE plan I believe it HAS to be a fixed address.
Because they have to come out and check it, inform the community, etc.
So... unless he has some money we don't know about...
Or some insane family or friends that'll let him stay with them...

He might just get to remain where he is for a bit longer. :seeya:

"It's a plan of, where do you plan to live? How are you going to support yourself? What treatment is available? So the offender submits the plan. We investigate it. We go ensure that the residence is OK, that there's treatment available, you have a support network. We review it and we either approve it or deny it," said Washington Department of Corrections spokesman Chad Lewis. "Once he submits a plan, and if we approve it, then the clock starts."

Once that plan is approved, Lewis said an inmate will stay an additional 35 days in prison while preparations are made for his release, such as notifying victims as well as local law enforcement in the area that he is about to move there.

I am surprised he is having difficulty making his house payments. He is old enough to retire and get SS benefits (not full, however) and no doubt is eligible for his retirement benefits. Why didn't he apply for those and have them deposited into his checking account so he can make his house payment. Gee, guess he may have to sell the house and move. I'm sure the neighbors will be quite gleeful.

BBM

This really pees me off this good behavior while in jail BS.

WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIMS! aaarrrggghhh

I agree.....if he had good behavior originally....he wouldn't have ended up in jail!

Yeah, you want to buy that house? Me either! Who could live in a place like that? I know it's not rational, but I don't think anyone could clean it up enough to get rid of every microscopic bit of sicko DNA! I bet the neighbors would rather have a bonfire then haul the ashes away and plant trees.

MOO

The "Concerns" are probably for his health, I'm sure the fathers of the little girls he was peeping at might want to be in the "Welcoming party" for his homecoming.

In the grand scheme of things, that Steve Powell has problems kinda gives me the warm fuzzies.

I go to the cancer center here for chemo and radiology and had a convo with one of the other patients about Susan, we agreed we want her found. steve can just live under a bridge

Steven Powell will be released from prison November 4.

-----------------------

Powell will be a tenant in a "privately owned home in Tacoma"
where a "community corrections officer who is part of a specialized sex-crime unit will supervise" him, according to Washington officials.

------------------------

He will be required to obtain approved employment and living arrangements,
enter a "state approved sexual deviancy treatment program,"
submit to polygraph and plethysmograph tests, :floorlaugh:
register as a sex offender for 10 years in the county he is living in, and submit a DNA sample.

Plethysmograph testing is horribly humiliating and degrading.
I am so glad he has to do it. :seeya:

The father-in-law of missing West Valley City mother Susan Cox Powell is slated to be released from prison
less than a year after he was sentenced.

------------------------

According to the Washington State Department of Corrections,
Powell will be released from custody on May 23.

------------------

Steven Powell's original sentence was 913 days in prison, but he received several reductions:

135 days for good behavior while in jail
169 days because his offenses were non-violent
271 days of credit for time served prior to his conviction and sentence

The reductions left his total prison time at 338 days.

I sure hope somebody is waiting to follow him when he gets out.

<----- You didn't see that.

 I am stunned. I sure hope neighbors and neighborhood members are warned in advance to keep their curtains closed and females away from him.

BBM

Females?! What about anybody!!

That was my dearest hope. He has to have a fixed address, right?

He should have to be fixed.

Landlord recants offer, Steven Powell to remain in prison :woohoo:

-----------------------

Tuesday, corrections officials announced that the property owner "withdrew the offer to have him as a tenant upon his release from prison."

---------------------

If a suitable plan cannot be reached, Powell would be released in March when he'll have served his entire sentence.

Last week, Jennifer Graves, Powell's estranged daughter, said she was disappointed her father was getting out already and hoped that his time in prison would be longer.
