Yes, it was heart wrenching reading the families memorial page. For me, the situation with her husband makes it less likely that this is Benita. I know she could have run away but it's an awful long time to go without ever contacting her family. She had two little boys. If I had have seen the back story, I possibly wouldn't have submitted her. I got the impression from the memorial page, that her family accepts that she passed away. It almost makes me worry that they might stumble across this thread, especially if it's not Benita.

Ivy Doe is a good name.

I hope they don't come across this page either. I can only imagine how devastating it would be for them. However, if Sheila and Wanda are ruled out they will be asking for a DNA sample for Benita and Stacey. You never know how family will react, this maybe some information they have been looking for, for some it only brings more heartache and for others it starts the healing process. If they happen to come across the page they should know that we care very deeply for Ivy and for all of the missing and unidentified, and we are here to help. It's amazing how much you can care so much about someone you don't even know. :)

The way I see it is, the most important things are that they'll know what really happened and that Benita's killer will be brought to justice for what he/she did. I also think most families would be relieved to see that people still care about - and are trying to find - their loved one, all these years later.

It's especially important for her two kids. It won't bring Benita back to life and it won't make up for the lost time ... but it will give them the peace of mind knowing that their mom didn't just run off and abandon them, that they'll finally have a place to visit her at (even if it's a grave), and that her killer is going to be punished.

The first thing I thought looking at 'IVV' was Roman numerals, except it can't be one whole number. It could be a 1, 5, and 5. Or 4 and 5.

They are working on getting Stacey and Benita's sample

I'll throw this one into the mix. It's an old case - 1989! Benita Spears, she would have been about 39 in 2005. Height is close and she was quite petite all those years ago. She has a scar on her abdomen from hernia surgery soon after birth. I figure Dr. Derrick might be able to tell whether the scar can or can't be that old. She has dentals but no DNA.

OMG, She also has a chipped tooth!

NamUs sent me a note that her case has been updated. The following fields have been changed:
[Scars and marks text has been changed from "Benita has a visible mark on her left cheek and a surgical scar on her abdomen from a hernia surgery when she was born" to "Benita has a visible mark on her left cheek and a linear scar on her abdomen ]

https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/show/3841

oops, I guess it was mentioned before, just finally made the connection.

Was Wanda Campbell ever ruled out? Because she sounds like the most likely potential match to me (considering the age, race, height, tattoos, etc. all matched up).

I keep checking NamUs and I see no DNA or dentals. ME has contacted LE at least two times. Sad how the missing just fall through the cracks....

Marie Cherry went missing in Oct of 1992. She was 25, which would make her 38 in 2005. She was reported to be 5'6" and weigh 143 LPS. She is not on NamUs that I could find. She was from Fort Hood, TX and has a chipped front tooth. The bulletin also state she has a space between her front teeth, but I don't see it in the pictures.

New additions to Namus since I last looked at this case -

Karhonda Stringfellow - No mention of the wrist tattoos. Has a tattoo on left shoulder which could rule her out. The tattoo was a name and if it was a thin, poor quality line it could maybe have been lost during composition? Lovely smiley photo which could help to rule her out/in.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/23910/0/

Sonya Oliver - No photo, would have been 43 by the time Ivy died. Missing date is in 1995. I included her because there is so little information that it sounds like little was known about her life. She is described as not having been in touch with her family. Perhaps she fell into a transient lifestyle like Ivy? DNA sample available, but not entered into Namus.

Roseann Stone - Listed height is too tall, age would have been mid forties and missing since 1992. Worked as a prostitute. Dentals in Namus, but no DNA.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22551/5/

Carmella Dixon - Tattoo on right arm (could it be a mistake and was really the left arm?), missing since 1992. Very little information but good clear photo. Pregnant. Would have been in late thirties.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/23403/6/

Caprice Cade - Missing since 1991. Almost no information. No photo. Dentals available but not entered in Namus. DNA testing not complete.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22828/7/

Ollie Roberts - Interestingly went missing exactly one year to the day before Caprice Cade went missing and from the same city. Would have been a lot over the estimated age range. Photo available. DNA available but not in Namus.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22810/8/

Rita Lang - This goes back to 1988, but it doesn't sound like she necessarily died then, more that she went of the radar then. She had a series of jail bookings under various names but fingerprints show it was the same woman. Tattoo on left arm and one on the right (hmmm).

Couldn't resist including her as her case is so interesting. No DNA or dentals and given that its unclear whether Rita Lang was her true identity, its hard to see how these could ever be obtained. Lots of photos though.

Hello, I'm new here and happen to find this link through google. I want to say thank you to all that have posted info to keep this case alive. I am the father of Wanda's daughters and we've never stopped looking. It's especially hard today because our youngest daughter recently began to have horrible recurring dreams. I contacted Harrison County today and will be in touch with one of their officers tomorrow. Thank you again for keeping this case and all the others going. God Bless

Lyssav,

Thank you for your kind words. Dr. Derrick and I spoke this morning and she helped my daughter set up a apt to get her DNA so that she could do a comparison. I will keep all posted. Again, thank you.
