Case History
The victim was discovered in a field off of the 3000 block of Calder Road in League City, Texas on September 8, 1991.
This woman is the second unidentified female homicide victim discovered in League City, Texas; the first, Case File 35UFTX, was located in 1986.
Both murders remain unsolved but may have been related in some way; both victims were found in the same area of Calder Road. This victim was the fourth body that was found in the area, dubbed by the press "the Killing Fields." Heide Fye’s body was discovered in April of 1984. Laura Miller’s remains were found on February 2, 1986, as well as the skeletal remains of another unidentified woman who police named "Jane Doe". Authorities theorize that the four women were all killed by the same person . Police say all the women were similar in age, height and hair color and all were found in similar ways: nude, lying face up. The women were not buried, just hidden from view.
The League City Janet Doe case is included along with 26 other women in the area that have been murdered or missing since 1971. Authorities believe there may be several serial killers responsible for some of the deaths and disappearances. A task force of various local law enforcement agencies and the FBI has been formed in order to solve these cases, they call themselves Operation HALT (Homicide-Abduction Liaison Team.)

Can anyone find any update re: this one? TX - Jane Doe 0018.

I though Alina Faye Self might be a possibility worth exploring. There is a discrepancy of several years between Self's disappearance and UID's estimated time of death, but there are physical similarities [both estimated at 5'0", young, short, and slender, with upper dentures]and regional closeness [approximately 200 miles] that might make it worth investigating/ruling out...?

--unfortunately NAMUS doesn't have her very important dental info :(

This is the thread for TX Jane Doe 0018. She's now Doe Network Case File 52UFTX

She's also mentioned in the Serial Killer sub-forum, Texas Killing Fields and Mysteries Along I-45

I've never considered her for a match to Janet Doe, but I sure would like to see her case resolved.

Some members think Self might be a match for a Mississippie Jane Doe.

I know it's probably a long shot, as it sounds like Alina Faye Self was likely dead soon after her disappearance in Louisiana. However stranger things have happened, and being so close physically and geographically, I think it begs at least an honest consideration.

Apparantly, the DNA that has been 'available' since 1991 will now finally be extracted & entered into CODIS.
'Killing Fields' victims' DNA to be extracted, may help lead to their identities
Tuesday, March 25, 2014
At the League City Police Department, a decades-old oversight is now corrected.
"Our fault, but we rectified that by having the bones taken to North Texas. DNA is going to be extracted. The girls are going to be fed into CODIS," League City Det. Morton Grant said.
The DNA from the two never-identified murder victims from the notorious League City "Killing Fields" will soon be entered into a national database, and investigators hope they will soon be identified.
"It just gives us a whole other area to investigate who the girls are, where they're from, who they're around," Grant said.

I find it odd they waited all of these years to actually start comparing DNA..and even more odd that they chose the timing that they did. Why has this taken so long?!!! And as far as I know neither Jane or Janet have ever been buried. I find this odd, why not? They had the capabilities to collect DNA from Janet Doe in 1991 - yet they didn't. From what I can tell these women's remains have just been passed around to different ME's in a variety of Texas counties, I think they have all the information they can get from the remains? I think it's time these women are laid to rest, it just seems wrong to keep passing them around.

And if they actually have been buried somewhere, someone please point me in that direction. I would love to bring them flowers.

Bumping.... Hopefully the DNA mentioned in post #29 above is now in CODIS............

I moved your post to the appropriate thread from the WCJD thread. That girl in the photo is Debra Jean Cole of Lebanon IN. LKA in 1981. Of course, she might have gotten dentures in the 10 years from her disapperance to the discovery, and moved to Texas, and then become a victim of the KF killer(s). And the suspicion of her mothers BF might have been completely off base. I doubt it though. Very unlikely.

Yes, the NAMUS page makes no mention of the dentures that were mentioned on the UID's DOEnetwork page, which was one reason I decided to go ahead with this submission... I guess that particular item will just have to remain a question mark.

I did find a FINDTHEMISSING page for Babette, but I submitted this possible match anyway because I don't think the auto-ruleout system is completely dependable.
