UK - Gunshots fired outside houses of parliament in London. 22 Mar 2017

They're actually opening an IPCC investigation into HIS death - I would have thought it was the most obvious lawful killing imaginable.

There's always an enquiry into a fatal shooting by police regardless of the circumstances.

These jihadis going after soft targets with vehicles and knives is a new and increasing method of Islamic terrorists. Lke the Boston bombing, Orlando and San Bernadino attacks, one sees the specific trend occur in the middle east, or specifically be recommended on Islamic terrorist web sites, than reoccur in the west.
The idea that this is something else simply makes no sense.

finding situations of humiliation or aberrant behavior in the terrorist's background, and using them to imply that this means their terrorist act is not terrorism makes no sense, and is a strawman. The majority of Islamic terrorists feel humiliated and many have criminal or violent backgrounds episodes. that does not exclude this being jihadi terrorists. A portion of Islam feels aggrievement and humiliation at the course of history itself and in Islam's relationship with modernity. This humiliation is a core narrative in recruitment and UBL himself spoke about the humiliation of the loss of Andulsia (spain). You need aggrievement plus humiliation to be the recruited. We know that from profiles of suicide bombers. The older Tsareneav brother was also a common criminal, a petty drug dealer and a personally violent person. That does not change the fact that he was exposed to organized Islamic terrorist sites, was recruited and used their recommended methods to commit a classic terrorist attack -- right down to AQ recommending sporting events

Arguing this was not Islamic terrorism also relies on ignoring other plain facts -- for example the fact that this London attack occurred on the anniversary of the Brussels Islamic terrorist attack.

Terrorists are filled with shame and anger leading to a feeling of humiliation, a new study reveals.

And that’s why men with radical views turn to terror.
Experts believe research on humiliation could significantly improve our understanding of what turns the boy-next-door into a bomb-hurling maniac.
“When analysts discuss the role that humiliation plays in warfare, terrorism and genocide, they often speak as though we know what humiliation is and what it does,” psychology professor Clark McCauley, of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, told the Daily Mail.
“But the fact is that humiliation will have to be better understood before it can help us understand intergroup violence.”

Very interesting. I also feel that men who are violent towards women are often driven by anger that starts as a feeling of being humiliated in some way.

What's that quote? Men are afraid that women will laugh at them, women are afraid that men will kill them.

I think there is some serious unpacking of ego and shame and humiliation and the human psyche that could help all this violence be better understood.

Oh no...

A Romanian woman who fell into the Thames during the Westminster terror attack has died. Andreea Cristea is the fifth victim of the attack on 22 March. Ms Cristea, 31, who was on holiday with boyfriend Andrei Burnaz, had been in hospital since the attack. It has emerged that Mr Burnaz had been planning to propose during the day out.

So sad. RIP Andreea.

A film crew captured the aftermath of the attack in one of London's hospitals while filming for a documentary series:

I'd highly recommend watching it if you can.

Unfortunately at this time, it is only available for viewing in the UK. It does look very interesting!

[h=1]Episode 1[/h] Hospital, Series 2

The opening episode of the second series follows events as St Mary's Hospital in Paddington receives victims from the Westminster terror attack on Wednesday 22 March. In the immediate aftermath of the terror attack on Westminster Bridge, three miles away a major incident is declared at St Mary's Hospital - the nearest of London's four major trauma centres.

"We are a hospital in the middle of London, we are a major trauma centre, we accept that the chances of there being a terrorist incident are higher for us to have to deal with than certain other hospitals," says the hospital's site director Lesley Powls.

Staff at the hospital have just minutes to implement the Trust's major incident protocol, including a gold, silver, bronze command chain, putting the hospital on lockdown and organising the transfer of some critically ill patients from the hospital's already full intensive care unit to sister hospital Charing Cross.

In A&E, specialist trauma teams are assembled, ready to receive the casualties as they start to arrive. Victims include students from a French school trip, 18-year-old Yann and 16-year-old Victor, and British victim Stephen, who needs immediate surgery to save his leg, and his wife Cara. "It's really hard when you spend so much time with somebody and then they're taken away from you and you're suddenly really, really alone. 'Cause you just want to grab hold of him, just give him a cuddle and a squeeze and take care of him but then he's so fragile, you can't, you just can't touch him."

In the days after the attack, staff at the hospital attempt to revert to business as usual and arrange for the repatriation of the foreign nationals caught up in the atrocity. Meanwhile the victims come to terms with what has happened to them. "There was a moment in the ambulance where I felt like I was going, I just wanted to sleep," reflects Yann. "I didn't know if I was going to die." "We're just an ordinary couple", says Stephen. "This will change us."

I watched it last week. I found it quite distressing for personal reasons but you have to take your hats off to our doctors and nurses and our NHS despite it being under so much pressure and cuts. It's like a finely tuned machine! Bravo!

Don't watch it if you are squeamish.

There are, in theory, ways to access IPlayer from outside the UK:

As Skibaboo has said it is fairly graphic in parts. I had to look away at time.

It's been put on Youtube, now:

Thanks for posting this excellent video, Supernovae!
It was so informative and moving, words cannot adequately express the feelings it inspired in me.
So impressed with all the dedicated, organized and talented hospital staff, the stoicism of the families affected ,and of course, the courage and resilience of the injured!
The film crew did an amazing job capturing it all!

Waiting for the start of the Westminster Bridge Inquests. Court 1 at the Old Bailey has well over 100 people in it. The media are sitting in the dock as there is no other space...

The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Cressida Dick is here for the start. Leslie Rhodes relatives are here, as are several members of Kurt Cochran’s family who hugged each other before the hearing. Some families are watching the proceedings by video link

Some key issues in the Inquests will be: what was known by the police and NI5 about the attacker Khalid Masood - were any warning signs missed?

Also why was protection of pedestrians on Westminster Bridge not better?

And could PC Keith Palmer have been better protected by his body armour and his colleagues?

Talking of events in March 2017 the Coroner said “The lives of many were torn apart by 82 seconds of high and terrible drama”

The Coroner said today would have been the 33rd birthday of Andreea Cristea - one of those Masood killed. She was knocked into the River Thames

Yesterday would have been the 56th birthday of Kurt Cochran, another of those killed.

The Coroner said Leslie Rhodes, a 75 year old retired window cleaner who was killed was on his way to a hospital appointment at St Thomas Hospital

The other victim on the bridge - Aysha Frade - was thrown under the wheels of a bus

We have just had a minute’s silence to remember the four people killed on the bridge, and PC Keith Palmer who was stabbed to death by Masood
