GUILTY UK - Tia Sharp, 12, New Addington, London, 3 Aug 2012 #5

@SkyFixerJim:

Tia trial: We're now hearing written evidence about the police investigation into Tia's reported disappearance. #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Statement read from cop when mum Natalie reported Tia missing. Told police Hazell said Tia had gone shopping and not returned

#tiasharp Two police officers searched Tia's room. "She was not in the room," said PC in statement.

#tiasharp Cop statement says Hazell was upset and blamed himself for not taking Tia to buy sandals, giving her the money to go alone instead

@SkyFixerJim:

Tia trial: We're now hearing written evidence about the police investigation into Tia's reported disappearance. #tiasharp

Hazell gave the police a description of what Tia had been wearing when he claimed she left the house to go shopping.

The police described Tia's "grandad" as being upset and blaming himself for not taking her shopping.

We're now hearing about a half hour police search of the house which included the loft where Tia's body was concealed

The police involved in this first search were not specially trained search officers.

The officer who went into the loft was up there for about 5 mins. He had a look in the water tank but did the rest with his torch.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Cop searched loft at night day after Tia vanished.

#tiasharp PC says he searched loft for 5 mins the day after Tia disappeared. "I was looking for a live girl, didn't see anything obvious "

@SkyFixerJim:

The officer said he was scared of moving about in the loft because it wasn't boarded out and he'd fallen through ceilings before. #tia

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Second officer said in statement after two days he saw bin liners in loft, held torch for colleague who looked in loft for 2 mins.

@SkyFixerJim:

During the search, there was lots of angry conversation in the house. The only person who was quiet was Hazell, who appeared very calm.

Tia trial: Now hearing the statement of specialist search officer who also searched the loft. It was the first time he had searched a loft.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Cop says in statement he looked in some black bin bags in loft but not all. "We decided they were too light to be significant"

#tiasharp Specialist police searchers looked in loft two days after Tia vanished but didn't check all bags there, says cop in Pros statement

#tiasharp Specialist police searchers looked in loft two days after Tia vanished but didn't check all bags there, says cop in Pros statement

#tiasharp Cop says in statement he picked up bin liner but thought it had clothing or bedding in it. He didn't look in it.

@SkyFixerJim:

So the loft was searched several times, to varying degrees of thoroughness but Tia's body was not discovered.

Later in the week police officers sent to recover clothing noticed a smell in the house. They alerted the rest of the investigation team.

Police dog Milly was sent in and indicated the presence of a body in the house. Stuart Hazell had gone for an early walk and not returned.

The house was sealed off and the loft entered again. It was "oppressively hot" and there was a strong smell of decomposition.

A body was located and removed. DNA analysis proved that it was Tia.

We're now hearing from our first live witness, DC Daniel Chatfield, the crime scene exhibits officer.

It was Chatfield's job to go into the loft. Once inside, he says, it was obvious there was a body there.

It was confined, chaotic (messy) and hot in there, he says.

DC Chatfield: after 10 mins searching my colleague alerted me to a long package which appeared to be bin liners.

DC Chatfield: he'd removed one of the bags and I could see a foot.

DC Chatfield: the house was now a crime scene. The body photographed and removed. The investigation now turned to objects found in the house

Chatfield was back in the loft. He found a black bin bag which appeared to have been put there fairly recently.

The bag contained a cardboard box holding two more plastic bags. Clothing was found in these. Jury given a break. #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Tia's gran Christine Bicknell leaves public gallery and heard sobbing as cop describes finding body.

#tiasharp First live pros witness Det Constable Daniel Chatfield says a week after Tia vanished a smell suggested a body in the house

#tiasharp Witness says an orange Sainsburys bag contained a yellow top and blue or grey leggings. Matched clothes Tia had been wearing.

#tiasharp Jury shown spectacles also found in another plastic bag found in cardboard box in loft. Pros said they had Tia fingerprint.

#tiasharp Witness says two trainers were found separately wrapped in paper and plastic bags on the loft.

@SkyFixerJim:

An ice cream or sweet paper wrapped in newspaper and a pair of broken spectacles were found in the box. Trainers were also found in the bag.

@mwilliamsthomas:

Court hears: Detective that first found Tia's body could reach her ankles stretched out from the loft hatch #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Jury shown an item belonging to gran Christine Bicknell, found in her bedroom, which prosecutor said had Tia's blood on it.

@SkyFixerJim:

Chatfield is now talking about the discovery of a memory card that appeared to have been hidden in an electric meter cupboard.

The camera to which it belonged was also found. Earlier today in a written statement, Tia's grandmother said she thought the card was lost.

Chatfield says a luggage strap was found wedged under one of the joists in the loft. It struck him as peculiar so it was photographed.

DC Chatfield says 204 exhibits were taken from the house. He's now being cross examined by Stuart Hazell's defence barrister.

Tia's father leaves the court as DC Chatfield is cross-examined in detail about where in the loft the body was concealed.

Various people describing Hazell as 'not too bright'

yet he was smart enough to fool police during their several searches of the loft

If Hazell is 'not too bright', what does it say about the brightness of the police

Thank you so much for all your Twitter updates, Neurotripsy. Really appreciate having them all correlated here to catch up on quickly :)

Mail Online coverage reports that Hazell was 'obsessed' with paedophile sites

and claims Hazell visited 'incest sites' after killing Tia and as her body lay in the loft above

Hope that evidence will dismiss any ridiculous claims by Hazell and his legal pimps as to his being 'remorseful' in any attempts to gain a lighter sentence

Interesting from the Daily Mail:

The Old Bailey heard that in the weeks before her death Hazell, 37, who was obsessed with paedophile websites, had repeatedly filmed Tia as she slept – and on one occasion as she rubbed cream on her legs while in her underwear.
Tia’s mother Natalie Sharp wept and rushed from the courtroom as footage of her daughter was played.
Later yesterday, the jury was shown a picture of Tia naked, which the prosecution alleges was taken by Hazell after he killed her.
Prosecutor Andrew Edis QC said Hazell, who regularly searched paedophile websites and had a collection of graphic child abuse images, took the picture for his ‘sexual excitement’ between 3am and 6am on August 3 last year while Tia’s grandmother Christine was out working a night shift at a care home.
Relatives of Tia and two jurors sobbed after the image was shown to the court.

Also from the DM about failure to find Tia's body in early searches:

Police officers - including a specialist search team - missed two chances to find Tia Sharp's body in her grandma's loft, the court heard today.
Officers searched the house in New Addington, south London in the days after the 12-year-old was reported missing last August.
But despite looking in the loft, Tia's decomposing body was not found until August 10 - a week after she disappeared.

Investigation: Police officers - including a specialist search team - missed two chances to find Tia Sharp's body in her grandma's loft, the court heard today. This picture shows a police search of the home at the time
The Old Bailey heard police first searched the house on August 4 - the day after Tia's mother Natalie filed a missing person's report.
Hazell followed the officer upstairs and gave him a chair to climb up, telling him that was what he always used to get up there, jurors were told.
After only five minutes the officer, who said he was surprised how clear and junk free it was, came down as could not see any sign of a live girl as he said at that point it was a 'preliminary search for a missing person.'
A team of six specialist officers attended the house the next day on August 5 to again search the premises.
Once more they looked in the loft while the family including Hazell, who was said to be 'very quiet and calm,' sat smoking downstairs.
The officer, who the court heard had never searched a loft before, said he could not smell a decomposing body, a smell he was familiar with and was satisfied there was nothing up there.

Discovery: Police officers search garages next to the home of Christine Sharp after Tia's body was found in the loft
It was not until police attended the property a third time on August 10 and noticed a bad smell coming from upstairs that Tia was discovered.
A police dog called Milly was brought in to help locate her and picked up scents around one of the bedrooms, the bathroom sink and the landing below the loft.
An officer then went up in the loft and after moving items out the way found a 'large wrapped package that appeared dust free and body shaped.'
Tia's mum Natalie covered her face with her hands and had to leave court as she heard Tia's left big toe in a badly decomposed state was sticking out from the bin bags she had been wrapped in.
The youngster was later identified by DNA and fingerprints.
Detective Constable Daniel Chatfield, who found Tia's body as he and a crime scene manager searched the loft because of the smell, said: 'The loft was extremely confined, it was very hot and quite chaotic, so there were a lot of boxes and bags around the hatch entrances which needed to be moved in order to search further into the loft.
'After about 10 minutes my colleague Mr Langley had alerted me to what he believed to be the body of Tia.
'By this time Mr Langley was inside the loft, I was stood on a step ladder so from waist upwards I was in the loft.
'From there I could see towards me a long package which appeared to be bin liners, from the side nearest to me I could see a foot.'

So he sent a text message to say something to the effect that he had no money and no hope. Well, now he has 3 square meals a day, a roof over his head that the taxpayer pays for, and access to TV and things that many law-abiding people can't afford. Why not build boot camps for people like him with limited privileges and get put to work being of use to the community. If I remember rightly, Ian Huntley (another nonce) gets to wear designer clothes and has access to Sky TV channels. What sort of punishment is that?? Yes I know that their loss of freedom is considered to be the punishment, but if their time inside gives them access to luxuries that non murderers can't enjoy, how does that make sense? These creeps never have to worry about money or anything while they're inside. And we're paying for their luxuries!

I hope this gives these jurors no doubt what a sicko he is

Sent from my 'alternate reality' using my hippocampus

This gets more sickening by the minute

Prosecutor claimed Tia's blood was found on a sex-toy in the bedroom shared by Hazell and the grandmother

Do we assume the grandmother cleaned that room? Was she aware of the sex-toy ? Did she notice blood on it ? If so, how did she imagine blood came to be on it ? Did Hazell use that sex-toy during his exploits with the grandmother? Did the sex-toy belong to the grandmother ? Did Hazell use the sex-toy on the grandmother after killing Tia ? Are these people sane ?

Hazell appears to be a compulsive liar in the pity-me mode. He claimed to his employer that his father had died and even cried at the workplace about the death of his father. Yet in news reports from 2012, it was alleged Hazell's father was alive and the same news reports carried verbatim statements made by the father regarding Tia's alleged disappearance

Hazell trawled online for incest sites three days after he killed Tia and stuffed her body out of sight in the loft

Could Hazell be described as 'human' ? If not human, why should society allow it to live, allow it to languish in prison for a few years before setting it free to live on welfare and sponge on other desperate women and prey on their children and any other children with the misfortune to cross its path ?

^ I think Hazell will get a very long jail sentence. I would hope he'd never be free.

The sex toy information is very disturbing. I wondered all the same things as you too. Hopefully they will be answered during the trial.

Interview was recorded and transcribed: copies being given to jurors #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp New witness is a murder detective who dealt with Hazell and interviewed him as significant witness

@RachelCroydonAd:

Hazell: "christine wanted to tighten the knot a bit": tia would otherwise go out with her mates after school and not work #tiasharp

Listening to role play of hazell's initial witness interview #tiasharp

Said "no arguments in the family. That's a fact, that's a fact"

hazell recalled events of thurs aug 2, 2012, when he met Tia in Croydon #tiasharp

Said did not look at time when arrived home. Said tia had a handbag. Said he washed her clothes that night (aug 3) #tiasharp

"I was doing washing (...) I like to put enough washing in to fill it up" #tiasharp

"Sit down. Watched tv played playstation. She wanted to watch family guy, so I said, yeah." #tiasharp

Police told him washing the clothes seemed strange. He said "Why strange, it's not strange at all." #tiasharp

Officer asked: "Were the clothes dirty?" Yes, Hazell said, "not funny, not strange" to wash them #tiasharp

Hazell told the officer: "I know it might sound strange to you, but that is from your perspective." #tiasharp

Hazell had said he and Christine did not have a lot of money and did not want to waste washing powder sachets #tiasharp

Hazell said he went to look for Tia at funfair in Orpington, c, 7pm. #tiasharp

asked "Is there anything you can think of that can help our enquries further?" Hazell replied: "I would have told you" if so #tiasharp

Funny how he made a point of bringing up Ian Huntley to say he wasn't a nonce like him. Also, he was full of remorse? Yet 3 days after he'd put Tia's body in the loft to rot, he was looking at child *advertiser censored* again. Oh yeah. Really sounds like he was remorseful. I still would like some explanation of how her clothes magically dropped off during the 'fall down the stairs'. If he was an out of control dog who attacked someone, he'd have been put down by now.

Neurotripsy - thanks so much for the updates. Really appreciate them.

@SkyFixerJim:

Tia Trail: Currently hearing from a police officer who twice interviewed Hazell as a witness before Tia's body was found.

@Gareth_Davies09:

Aug 8 police visit house. Hazell "very annoyed" by presence of press #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Det Const Darrell Ayaydin says he interviewed Hazell for second time five days after Tia vanished. Led him thru "mob of reporters"

@SkyFixerJim:

In this 2nd interview, police asked Stuart Hazell to go in detail thru the morning he and Tia were in the house before she "disappeared."

Hazell gave a very detailed account of cleaning the house while Tia played her DS on the sofa and chatted to him.

Hazell told the officers that knowing people were thinking he'd done something to Tia was really getting to him.

@Gareth_Davies09:

Hazell taken through press to police car for second interview on Aug 8. Court is now being taken through that interview

In Aug 8 interview he told police: "I swear to god she (Tia) walked out of the house."

Hazell gave police intricate details of what housework he did, but not on Tia's supposed movements #tiasharp

@SkyFixerJim:

The officer concedes under x-exam that Hazell broke down at one point "because of the pressure of the press" asking provocative questions.

Dr Ashley Fegan-Earl, the Home Office pathologist who examined Tia's body, is called next. #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Ahead of pathologist evidence and photographs Prosecutor says some in court may want to withdraw

@SkyFixerJim:

He tells the jury he assists the police with 80-90 suspicious deaths every year. He also deals with 700+ non suspicious fatalities.

On the 10th August 2012 he visited Tia's grandmother's house after Tia's body had been found in the loft.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Pathologist said he saw human left foot in advanced decomposition sticking out of black bin wrapping. Loft extremely hot.

@SkyFixerJim:

Tia's body was quickly removed from the warm loft and a post mortem exam carried out the next day. #tiasharp

Her body was kept inside the sacking and the fitted sheet during removal. Taking the wrapping away was part of the post-mortem.

The court is shown photographs of Tia's body wrapped in plastic sheeting. Stuart Hazell gazes down at the pile of notes on his lap.

@Gareth_Davies09:

Hazell's head is bowed as photos are shown to court. He is staring at the floor #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Onlooker in public gallery leaves as pathologist describes how a body decomposes.

#tiasharp Pathologist said he could not exclude evidence of sexual assault.

@Gareth_Davies09:

Fegan-Earl: Tia was in pyjamas and a top which said "Little Miss Giggles"

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Pathologist said no obvious evidence of external injury.

@SkyFixerJim:

Dr Fegan-Earl says he could find no signs of disease which may have resulted in sudden natural death. Nor were there signs of injury.

There was no clear bruising to Tia's neck and no sign of compression or strangulation. There was no fracture to the bones of the neck.

@Gareth_Davies09:

Fegan-Earl found no evidence of neck or head injuries. Hazell claims Tia died after falling down stairs #tiasharp

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp No evidence of any broken bones, says pathologist.

@SkyFixerJim:

Pathologist: there was no evidence of fracture to any of the bones of the body. #tiasharp

Tia's body contained caffeine but no signs of drugs or alcohol, says Dr Fegan-Earl.

The jury are given a 10 minute break before having to look again at the unpleasant photograph they were first shown on Tuesday.

The photograph is up on the screen. The pathologist is asked to set out why he believes the picture was taken after death. #tiasharp

He believes some mottling visible of the skin suggests that it was taken some time after the heart stopped beating.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Pathologist says its of a dead body and consistent with girl of Tia's age. He believes body has been moved since death.

@SkyFixerJim:

The picture shows a naked female in a certain position. Face not visible. The pathologist has said it's consistent with a girl of Tia's age.

The pathologist is asked if he has been able to establish a definite cause of death. "No. Not in this case." #tiasharp

There is no evidence of a natural disease which could explain her death, he says.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Pathologist says no evidence to support accidental death such as falling down stairs.

@SkyFixerJim:

What about a fall down stairs he is asked. No evidence of severe head or neck injury, he says. No evidence of an accidental cause of death.

Having ruled out stabbing, beating etc as cause of death, says Dr Fegan-Earl, he has to turn to asphyxia as the most likely cause of death.

@skymartinbrunt:

#tiasharp Pathologist says suffocation or compression of chest, like victims of Burke and Hare, most likely cause of Tia's death.

#tiasharp Defence barrister Lord Carlile explains Burke and Hare were Victorian body snatchers who supplied bodies to Scots medical schools.

This Hazell had been in prison before, apparently. It's my belief he was desperate not to be put in general-population (in prison). As an accused in a child-murder, he would have needed to watch his back if he were placed in general-population. Prison inmates soon learn about high-profile crimes and would have worked out who he was and why he was there. He could have been expected to remain in prison for approx. one year, maybe more, before the case went to trial. So, imo, he played the system by letting it be known minute-one that he wished to self-harm, knowing this would result in his being placed in an observed ward, which is basically a special category away from rank and file prisoners

Little Mister-Special. Poor little Stuart. I'm innocent. I want to kill myself. I've been talking my head off about razor blades. Make sure you note that down. I can't be left alone with the other nasty inmates - they might hurt me. I need to be monitored in the special ward. My moods should be everyone's concern. I'm feeling guilty -- so guilty I was trawling online for child-sex three days after I killed the step-grand-daughter I loved so much. Don't call me a nonce. I resent that implication. I'm a step-grand-dad who loved my child-victim to bits -- ask anyone. I wanted to search for her but 'the press' made it impossible. My face was in all the papers, mate. I'm a victim. Treat me specially, fools. I can run rings around all of you. I'm some sort of genius, ha ha. Took you idiots a week to find her and she was right under your noses all the time. Now I'll show you how to work the UK policing-system, because if anything happens to me while I'm in prison, it will cost you your jobs all the way to Parliament. Now bring me some mood-enhancers. Bring in those police psychologists who're so easy to con. Train those cameras right on my pretty face so I can act the remorseful victim. And keep the noise down -- I'm suicidal, remember. So don't upset me

He claimed to have told the police about a couple a few doors down. He thought they were Somalians.

"It's them the police should look at. They are the bacons. Not me." Bacons is a prison term for sex offenders, paedophiles.

What an absolutely crappy thing to do! :banghead:

The parallels between Hazell and Huntley are uncanny.

Huntley insisted Holly had 'accidentally' drowned in the bath.

Hazell says Tia 'fell down stairs' in an accident.

Huntley insisted there had been nothing sexual (despite the girls clothing being removed).

Hazell insists nothing sexual happened (despite Tia's clothing being removed and semen being found on the bedding).

Huntley liked very young girls.

Hazell viewed child *advertiser censored*.

Hazell insists he's nothing like Huntley when in fact he comes across as a clone of him. Whatever he did to Tia was sick and depraved and I doubt very much he gives a toss (hence the viewing of child *advertiser censored* after he'd stuck Tia in the loft). I think the only remorse he feels is that the body was found before he got a chance to move it.

Also, not sure how I feel about CB's claim that the 'most' you ever got out of Hazell was a raised voice, when by his own admission, he had anger management issues and could snap (and would want to hurt everyone) if the wrong thing was said to him. CB didn't mention that at all, which makes me think she's still hiding something, not about the murder, but about his character, maybe to try and avoid any responsibility for leaving Tia alone with someone who smoked dope, drank alcohol and could 'snap' around her precious granddaughter.

I don't believe she bought his story about 'accidentally' downloading pornographic images on his phone. I just think she can't admit she knew all this because it reflects badly on her for leaving Tia alone all night with a loose canon like him.
