Identified! UT - Juab Co, WhtFem UP8382, 18-22, at Yuba Lake, Sep'78 - Marilee Bruszer

How well were such things tracked in 1978? I mean it is one thing for the information to have been processed and be there in some batch stored file box somewhere, it is quite another thing to know which file box at which office when you don't know which particular entry to/exit from a country she may have used and on which day.

I see what you mean. It's a longshot, but I suppose it's possible that she bought an airline ticket with cash, and went through customs without anyone in the US thinking to check the INS records.

The resemblance certainly is there. Her teeth look pretty straight though. The UID was described as having crooked teeth.

Anyone think Patricia Spencer might be worth a look in comparison to the Yuba Lake Jane Doe?

As of this moment, Patricia's NamUs casefile still doesn't have a photo, but I was able to find her photo in the 1969 Oscoda High School (Oscoda MI) yearbook (available in Classmates.com).

There's a nine-year lag between DLC and discovery, but the remains were estimated to have been there for about 3 years according to the newspaper clippings shown in the Documents section of YLJD's NamUs casefile. NamUs indicates the postmortem interval as "months". Who knows how accurate that estimate is.

Her height is within an inch, and her age is right. She has blonde hair, and a similarly strong chin. FWIW, her nose is similar too, though that doesn't count for much since the remains were skeletal.

The UID was wearing clip-on earrings which might suggest that her ears weren't pierced. I cannot see any indication in the photo that she had pierced ears, though it is not conclusive due to the quality of the photo.

ETA: Since head hair and pubic hair was still present on the remains, I would suspect that she had not been there for 9 years. However, if she was a runaway as opposed to a victim of foul play, she might have been on the run for several years prior to her death.

How about Lynn Ruth Connes?

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/827dfca.html

She was last seen May 20, 1976 (which fits the window for 2-3 years on estimated date of death)

She is within the age range. She disappeared at age 20

She has blond hair like the UID and her height is only one inch taller than the UID's estimated height

She also seems to resemble the UID.

hi everyone,
i have 2 questions: was hair dye as common in 1978 as it is now? and secondly, how common would it be for a young woman in 1978 to not have pierced ears?
edit; regarding hitchhiking/truckers, i also noticed on google earth theres an exit for I-15 a few miles north of yuba lake.
thanks!

Yes, hair dye was common in the 70's and it was reasonably common for girls to have unpierced ears. Buckskin Girl (1981) and Caledonia Jane Doe (1979) both had unpierced ears.

Just a picture comparing Rose Cole with the Jane Doe.

What does anyone think of Benita Gay Chamberlin as a possible match? She is listed on NamUs as:
NamUs MP # 869

The Charley Project has more info:
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/chamberlin_benita.html

Great resemblance - But she is a little old and a little tall (thought not too far off on either count).

Given the circumstances indicated, it's kinda hard to imagine how she would have ended up in Utah from Eugene Oregon, and I would think that if the Jane Doe had given birth, that would have been detected and noted.

Carl, do you know if Lynne Ruth Connes was ever compared? I feel she might be a really good match.

Ruth does resemble the UID, and her vital stats are close enough. I suppose it's possible that the "photographer" could have transported her to Utah, but that doesn't strike me as likely.

You might want to e-mail it in though. However, I e-mailed in Angela Ramsey, and never received a response. They didn't respond to my other submissions either, though they did put a few of them on the rule-out list.

Ruth's case sounds like a Rodney Alcala job to me.

I noticed Carmen Robinson on another thread and instantly thought of this UID. I know the circumstances and distance are probably a deal-breaker, but I can't help thinking there is a resemblance. I can't really tell from the photo if her bottom teeth look crooked or if her ears are pierced.

Yuba Lake is right off of I-15, though I'm not sure how close to the freeway the UID was found. It is quite likely that someone could have dumped the body there as they were traveling . I-80 and I-70 are also within a couple hours of this area, which I believe would open up the area of where the UID could be missing from.

I-15 is the freeway that goes through Las Vegas. Although from the map, it looks like where the UID was found is closer to Salt Lake City than Las Vegas.

Back in the 1970s, hitchhiking was a lot more common than it is today. I have read about people who traveled cross-country this way. I guess if she was doing that, she could have been from anywhere.

Yes, I-15 goes from LA up through Vegas through Utah to Salt Lake and up into Idaho. Yuba Lake is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Salt Lake.

Back in the 70's the main highway was US91. In order to drive from Salt Lake City to La's Vegas you would have to drive through Nephi Utah. Yuba Lake is only about 20 minutes outside of Nephi. Nephi was a main stop for gas and food.

Did you ever submit Carmen? There was quite a bit of kidnapping and murder up and down the west coast in the 70's and while it sounds a bit unlikely, it doesn't sound impossible to me.
