GUILTY VA - Yeardley Love, 22, UVA student, beaten to death, Charlottesville, May 2010 *civil trial 2022*

"SI's Jon Wertheim, who wrote the article, told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez Thursday, "Very quickly, it became clear (to him when he visited U.Va. after the killing) that this was not something out of the blue. This had been building for weeks and weeks. People sort of had heard things, some of it first-hand, some of it second-hand. But, after the act, I think in some ways, for some students, it was almost a cource of relief but, for others, deeply disturbing that there were a lot of warning signs."

In the weeks leading up to the murder, Wertheim says, "There had been a violent … attack, basically, that was witnessed by other students and also, as these details seeped out - a prior arrest, and (Huguely) punching a sleeping teammate, clearly there was something in this here.

"None of this went reported. We were able to confirm there were no restraining orders, no reports. But just sort of the campus buzz -- just the buzz, the campus grapevine -- if you're coaching a team and a player is assaulting a sleeping teammate, wouldn't you prod around? There were just too many episodes that were almost foreshadowing this."

huh??

I just have to say, what a great letter from GH's mom! I was hesitant to read it because I usually end up heated after reading/hearing statements from the murderers family. So many times they talk about how their pain is just as great as the victims family with the possibility of losing their own child and how they are victims, too.

It's very tragic that so many people saw what was happening and what was possible from him and did nothing. His violence was the "campus buzz"? Too bad nobody was there to look out for Yeardley.

Even if Yeardley had reported fears of this man, I am not sure it would have done any good. Not sure if she could have filed stalking charges, and unless and until she is harmed, LE often can't/won't do anything and the accusation alone can often further enrage the accused. This university, like many others, seems to indicate a pattern of not taking seriously crimes or potential crimes involving students, all in an effort to protect reputation and justify their high-priced tuition. It makes me sick to think that others knew or felt that something bad would happen and yet it was allowed to happen. Still, the blame has to be placed on the attacker/killer alone; no matter what he claims his intentions were, his actions are all that matter now.

From this article above, sounds like UVA has a huge amount of rape cases that they downplay completely.

I was warned when I moved here (outside of Cville) that there had been many, many rapes that were hushed because they didn't want to frighten UVA parents (who would then pull their kids out). One friend (LE) told me that there was a rapist on the loose for 10 years and they didn't say a word.

I went to one of the largest colleges in FL and same thing....rapes would be swept under the carpet. It wasn't until you'd scour LE sites or newspapers that you found it. Never saw those cases see daylight.

Defense: Yeardley Love Didn't Die From Beating

(Dec. 16) -- A defense expert contends that University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love did not die at the hands of her ex-boyfriend but from cardiac arrhythmia caused by drugs in her system.

Dr. Jack Daniel, a pathologist in private practice, said he disagreed with the coroner's finding that Love, 22, died from blunt force trauma to the head. Love had Adderall in her blood stream, Daniel testified, which can cause irregular heartbeats, resulting in diminished oxygen to the brain, The

No, I believe it was the banging of her head into the wall :furious: .

There is a "growing consensus" that the murder charges against George Huguely V, the former Virginia men's lacrosse player charged with killing Yeardley Love, his former girlfriend and a member of the school's women's lacrosse team, will be settled in a plea agreement prior to trial, according to reports.

from your link (btw Thank you for the update

Huguely's next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 21.

So the family of Yeardley might be willing to agree to a plea deal only to save their daughter's dignity from being victimized by the defense attys in a trial. I can't say that I blame them but if he gets out...well, once an abuser, always an abuser, jmo.

All this sweeping, their rugs must be huge.

This so reminds me of the William Kennedy Smith case in that, for a price, things can be handled.

I wouldn't settle anything... the guy is a menace to society as he is.
