WA WA - Cherry Greenman, 19, Waterville, 14 Sept 1976

No I didn’t notify Namus. Not sure how to do that.

They don't make it easy. Only phone numbers, no clear mail adresses (I'm from the Netherlands) besides The Regional Program Specialist contact, Jessica Hager, but I'm not quit sure what her role is (from Namus?) She has both the UID and the MP case. I prefer to notify also LE about a possible match, but as I said....it's not easy to reach them by Email. I think also the cold case unit is dissolved and I couldn't find det. Jim Allen anymore on the employee list. Maybe he retired.

Serial killer ruled out in Washington case

April 15, 2010

King County sheriff’s investigators have ruled out a condemned California serial killer in the disappearance of a Washington woman who has been missing since September 1976.

The family of the missing Douglas County woman, Cherry Greenman, recently told King County sheriff’s investigators that a photo found in a Shoreline storage locker once rented by convicted serial killer Rodney Alcala was not that of the missing woman, said sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart.

Sheriff’s Detective Jake Pavlovich, who is on the department’s cold-case squad, told The Seattle Times last month that a photo found inside the locker resembled Greenman.

The Sheriff’s Office had looked into Greenman’s disappearance during the investigation into Green River serial killer Gary L. Ridgway, but failed to find a link, Pavlovich said. Greenman has never been found.

“We got a good photo from Huntington Beach [police], and we showed it to [Greenman’s] family,” Urquhart said.
Urquhart said the Greenman case remains open.

Interesting. That certainly appears to be her information o_O

Her sister, my mom, is a heavy alcoholic with a bad memory, and I've never seen any other pictures of Cherry. I've heard stories, but she disappeared before I was born. The oldest brother is not really engaged with the family much. Youngest brother died in the 80s... father was abusive and is gone, and their mother died when they were younger. There is a possibility the person most engaged with the case, from our family, a half sister, is not actually blood related, but she doesn't know that.

I check these forums every few years, but have nothing add so I never say anything, until now.

I found a doe who I believe may be Cherry.

Age matches , hair color matches, height is close and PMI is fairly close (about a month off) Cherry was known to hitchhike from state to state and JD was found two miles west of Highway 7 and 1/4 South of State Route 702. Cherry wasn't reported missing until 2004, which would explain why LE would not have seen her case when they were initially trying to identify Jane Doe. I am unsure if there are identifiers on file for the decedent.

****edit#1****
According to Doe Network the decedent only has dentals on file and in 1979 "the skeleton was slated for destruction and was put in the Tacoma landfill." So unless LE is able to obtain Cherry's dental records, we will probably never know if these remains are Cherry's. This is so unfortunate.

I suggested Cherry as possible match to Atlantic Highlands Jane Doe the other day in AHJD's WS thread. It can't hurt suggesting her in her own thread, either. Feel free to call it in :)

Height and weight are off, but since only skeletal remains of AHJD was found, these stats are just estimates, so you never know. Timeline fits.

AHJD's thread:
NJ - NJ - Atlantic Highlands, WhtFem Skeletal 20UFNJ, 15-20, on hillside, Dec'88
With the recent identification of Atlantic Highlands Jane Doe, Cherry can be ruled out of being a match.
