An Oregon man who claimed Wednesday morning that he was on his way to leave explosives at LaGuradia Airport has been charged with falsely reporting an incident and making terroristic threats, Monroe police say.

Abdurrahman Issam Qadan, 26 and from Tigard, Ore., was stopped by a Monroe police officer at about 1 a.m. along Route 17M

GERMANY SETS UP SAFE SHELTERS FOR GAY MIGRANTS

Welcome to Germany’s first shelter for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transvestite and intersex migrants.

It is hidden away on a quiet, leafy road in Berlin, where dozens of migrants are kept under round-the-clock security to protect them from fellow migrants hostile to homosexuality.

“I wouldn’t want to be in a shelter with straight refugees,” said Bashar Taha, an ethnic Kurd from northern Iraq. “It’s too dangerous. Many people from the Middle East are very homophobic — people get beaten and even killed.”

Stephan Jakel, a therapist and the centre’s manager, said: “Many of our residents are traumatised.”

Their plight highlights the difficulties Germany faces in integrating the 890,000 registered migrants it took in last year, some from places where homosexuality can be punished by death.

Most gay migrants coming to Germany hide their sexuality for fear of being attacked by compatriots, says Jakel. Others face such danger the state of Berlin has qualified them as people with “special reception needs”, along with children, disabled people and pregnant women.

Shocked by the violence, including stabbings, suffered by gay people at the hands of their compatriots in refugee camps, German authorities initially offered separate accommodation in hotels and private apartments but this proved too expensive. Now specifically designed shelters have caught on.

Once at the shelter, new residents get free medical care including, if requested, specialised treatment such as hormone therapy for transsexuals. The shelter, run by Schwulenberatung, Europe’s biggest gay help group, is luxurious compared with facilities in other parts of the country. Ultraliberal Berlin has invested heavily: annual running costs approach £900,000, not including therapy and legal aid.

There must be no more ‘integration experiments’ at the expense of Christian refugees and other religious minorities in German asylum and reception centres.
Therefore, the collaborating organisations AVC, EMG, Open Doors and ZOCD are asking the Chancellor, the ministers in charge of home affairs, education and social affairs on a federal as well as state level, the Commissioner for integration and other regional and trans-regional authorities to swiftly implement the following measures:

1. Preventive measures ensuring the protection of religious minorities during the entire process of asylum-seeking and integration (cf. catalogue of measures of the Hessian ministry of Home Affairs, see 3.3.4)

2. Merging groups from religious minorities in such a way so that the proportion of Christians and other religious minorities roughly corresponds with that of Muslims in shared accommodation.

3. Provision of separate accommodation for Christians and other religious minorities who have already been victims of persecution and discrimination. This should include the possibility of decentralised accommodation. Authorities must refrain from categorically blocking decentralised accommodation, especially if such living quarters are available for affected Christians.

4. Adequately increasing the non-Muslim percentage of the security staff.

5. Provision of periodical training for sensitising co-workers and security staff assigned to refugee shelters to the reasons behind religious conflicts and the protection of religious minorities.

6. Assignment of Christian persons of trust whom Christians can turn to when affected by persecution.

I wonder how much of what they perceive as persecution is because they're trying to convert people who don't want to convert, and I wonder why more Christians aren't literally opening their doors and inviting Christian refugees to live with them.

Thomas Muller, an Open Doors persecution analyst, said, "Christian refugees from many different countries are trying and failing to find safety in Europe, and it is likely that the report only shows the tip of the iceberg. It is clear that many Christian refugees – especially those who are converts to the Christian faith – live in fear of persecution from Muslim refugees who make up the majority of residents in the refugee hostels set up throughout Europe. It is sobering to hear persecuted Christians telling a Western country that they recognize the very same persecution patterns in operation as in their home countries."

After reading this week about widespread doubts over the ages of some young men coming from Calais, they said: ‘We could never understand why this has not come out before.’

Using assumed names because they fear reprisals if they are identified, Sarah and Giles said one boy, supposedly 15, lived with them for two years and attended a local school. But when he eventually left them, he revealed: ‘You English are so stupid – I’m in my twenties.’

They said dentists and GPs routinely turned away their foster ‘children’ because they could tell they were actually grown men.

Asked to take in a 15-year-old boy from Albania, Sarah and Giles enrolled him in the local school the very next day.
‘We were waiting in the corridor when we looked around and he had lit up a cigarette, which was not a great start,’ recalled Sarah.
‘He had a shirt undone to his stomach and a gold medallion and winklepicker-type shoes. He lived with us for two years and went to school as a 15 and 16-year-old.
‘But later we found a wage slip he had left lying around which showed he had been working.

THE UNBELIEVING MEDICS

Giles took another refugee ‘boy’ to the dentist. He recalled: ‘The dentist said the boy had had his wisdom teeth for some time. He told us he could not treat him as a child and not to bring him back.
‘When we told social services they just said, “We’ll have to find another dentist”. It didn’t prompt a proper investigation.’

Sarah added: ‘We took one to an elderly GP who told us, “If that lad is 14, I am 23”.’

THE BOY WITH HEPATITIS

Sarah said: ‘We had one who had TB and another with hepatitis B. He had been using my hairbrush. If I had scratched my scalp with it I could have been infected.
‘I paid £250 for a health check to make sure I was clear.’ Hepatitis B can be caught by people who inject drugs and have unprotected sex with multiple partners, and may be passed by a drop of blood.

‘SCHOOLBOY’ WHO WAS RUMBLED

Only one time was a ‘boy’ caught out. Sarah said: ‘We had one boy for two months. He told police he was 14.
‘A social worker arrived for a visit and brought their manager, who was horrified. She said, “There’s no way he’s a child”. He was gone that day to a hostel for men.’

The Russian president has largely kept quiet over the refugee crisis in Europe but has now spoken out of his disbelief over its handling claiming that a continent that 'can't protect its children' has no future.

His comments come off the back of a case in Austria last week, which saw an Iraqi migrant have his conviction of raping a 10-year-old boy at a swimming pool in Vienna overturned.

He was originally convicted of the crime but it was overturned because a court didn't prove he realised the boy was saying no.

It came after the migrant, identified as 20-year-old Amir A., claimed that it was a 'sexual emergency' because he had not had sex for four months.

A second trial for the rape is expected to take place next year, but the attacker is likely to remain in custody until then.

MINNEAPOLIS - Three more Minnesota men have been sentenced in a plot to join ISIL.

Tuesday's proceedings began with Judge Michael Davis sentencing Hamza Ahmed to 15 years in prison for attempting to travel to Syria and join ISIL.

Following Ahmed's sentencing, his co-defendant Hanad Musse took his turn. Musse was also stopped at JFK airport from traveling to the Middle East to join ISIL.

Judge Davis sentenced Musse to 10 years in prison, after asking,"Sir, are you a terrorist or not?"

"I am a terrorist, yes," Musse responded.

Adnan Farah was the third and final defendant to be sentenced Tuesday. It didn't take long for him to tell Judge Davis "I'm guilty."

The arrest of seven people in France has prevented another terror attack, according to reports of the French Ministry of the Interior.
The arrested suspects are of French, Moroccan and Algerian origin.
Four arrests took place in Strasbourg, two in Marseille and one in another country, said the minister. Minister of the Interior Cazeneuve spoke of an exemplary operation by special forces in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
Six of those arrested were not previously known to the intelligence services. Which target the suspects had in mind, is not known. The Paris Public Prosecutor will further investigate the case. Since the beginning of 2016, 418 persons with ties to terrorist groups have been arrested in France, according to the ministry.

A confidential new report by German authorities now provides deep insights into what investigators know about the mindsets of those who have returned to Europe. At the core of the report, partially published by German newspaper Die Welt, is the question of what differentiates a disillusioned returnee from a potentially dangerous individual who still believes Islamic State ideology and might be willing to conduct attacks in Europe.

Only 10 percent of all returnees are disillusioned with the ideology, the new data suggest. Eight percent of them might only have come back to their home country Germany to recover from being on the battlefield, before trying to return to Syria and Iraq, the report says.

According to the report, about half — 48 percent — stay committed to extremist ideology and remain friends with other extremists. The latter number might be particularly worrisome to experts: Most of those who left for Syria or Iraq were radicalized by friends or individuals they met in mosques or in Islamic seminars, the study says.

The large number of returnees since 2013 has put pressure on European authorities who lack the needed number of officers to monitor terrorism suspects 24 hours a day. The lack of observation could turn out to be a dangerous gamble, the report suggests.

Terror networks such as the so-called Islamic State group are evolving their tactics to attack soft targets in Europe, which could see the use of deadly car bombs, Europol has warned.

Jihadist attacks on EU member states have not yet involved "the use of home-made, commercial or military explosives in vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices" as in Syria or Iraq, it said in a report issued in The Hague.

But "given the fact that the modi operandi used in Middle Eastern countries tend to be copied by terrorists operating in Europe ... it is conceivable that jihadist groups will use this means at some stage," the continent's policing agency said.
