WORLDWIDE - Terrorist threats and scares

Arrested German spy was a onetime gay *advertiser censored* actor — and a secret Islamist

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...48fda772306_story.html?utm_term=.c2f2f02d2b08

Two weeks ago, German intelligence agents noticed an unusual user in a chat room known as a digital hideout for Islamic militants. The man claimed to be one of them — and said he was a German spy. He was offering to help Islamists infiltrate his agency’s defenses to stage a strike.

The agency “needs to tell us immediately what exactly happened and how it could happen that somebody like this was hired,” he said.

He told investigators that he had converted in 2014, after telephone conversations with somebody in Austria who went by the name Mohammed. Investigators asked him if this was Mohammed Mahmoud, an Austrian Egyptian who joined the Islamic State and who previously had run a website where he translated speeches of al-Qaeda leaders. The arrested man refused to confirm a surname.

"A man carrying a gas can, matches and a book by the son of a terror group founder has been charged with making terroristic threats near New York's Rockefeller Christmas tree.

Yuriy Alterman, 38, was caught by police acting erratically near the Rockefeller Center tree on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said he threw a bottle into the street, became combative and screamed expletives at officers when they approached him in midtown Manhattan."

ANNALS OF TERRORISM DECEMBER 12, 2016 ISSUE
AFTER THE ISLAMIC STATE
As the caliphate crumbles, rival movements struggle for the soul of Sunni jihadism.
By Robin Wright, THE NEW YORKER

[...]

"On November 21st, the State Department... “credible information” indicated “the heightened risk of terrorist attacks throughout Europe.” The alert will be in effect for the next three months. Four days later, France announced the arrest of five Islamic State operatives who were planning an attack for December 1st. The targets reportedly included the Champs-Élysées and the Disneyland park outside Paris."

[...]

"The rival movements now compete for franchises. In two years, the Islamic State has won the allegiance of thirty-seven provinces, or wilayats, in eight countries. Pledging and gaining allegiance, or bayat, is a formal process in the world of jihadism... The Islamic State claimed its Libyan province as the caliphate’s first colony in 2014, although it recently lost most of its land there, too. Other cells, notably in Yemen, are weaker or dormant."

[...]

In a kind of jihadi shell game, this summer the Nusra Front rebranded itself as the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, or J.F.S., which means the Front for the Liberation of Sham, an area that includes Syria and parts of neighboring countries. It announced that it no longer had ties with any external group. Al Qaeda publicly concurred.

[...]

And the quest for a caliphate goes on. “Al Qaeda might lay claim to it for a moment, and the Islamic State may lay claim to it, but there’s always been this dream of recapturing and bringing back the caliphate,” a senior U.S. counterterrorism official told me. “Who’s going to tap into that next?” ♦

DENMARK: 75% OF 'CHILD' ASYLUM SEEKERS FOUND TO BE ADULTS AFTER MEDICAL TEST

Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...o-medical-tests-prove-age-adults-Denmark.html

Three quarters of so-called child asylum seekers in made to undergo medical tests to prove their age in Denmark have been found to be adults.

The Danish Immigration Service (DIS) suspected 800 migrants were lying about their age and asked the University of Copenhagen's Department of Forensic Medicine to run checks on them.

And having carried out tests involving x-rays of their teeth and bones, it was revealed 600 of the refugees involved were actually adults.

In Denmark, unaccompanied child migrants have the rights to a number of privileges under asylum law including bringing their parents to the country.

BBM

It is not an isolated problem in Denmark.

Almost 5,000 refugee ‘children’ who have come to Britain in the past decade have been found to be adults.

Home Office figures revealed in October show there have been 11,121 disputes over the ages of child asylum seekers in that period, with 4,828 – almost 45 per cent – found to be over 18.

Their treatment as ‘children’ would have left councils and local taxpayers facing a care bill of tens of millions of pounds a year.

Despite the concerns, the Home Office is advising its staff to only challenge the age of a ‘child’ migrant if they look ‘at least 25-years-old’, it emerged.

The issue was magnified by the demolition of the Calais Jungle migrant camp in which supposed child asylum seekers appeared far older than 18.

ISIS is apparently a bit miffed and frustrated that the most recent "lone wolf" stabbing attacks (OSU and St Cloud, MN mall) didn't produce any deaths. So, ISIS is stepping up their tutorials on "how to" carry out a jihadi motor vehicle and stabbing spree.

ISIS Tries Knife Attack Lesson Again – with Picture How-to – After No Ohio State Fatalities

After the Ohio State attack in which several staff and students were stabbed by a fellow student but no one suffered life-threatening wounds, the Islamic State has gone back to the drawing board in their instructions for lone jihadists on how to go on stabbing sprees -- with a picture tutorial this time.

The November issue moved on to a different type of lone attack tutorial -- or "just terror" attacks, as ISIS calls them -- encouraging that jihadists use a heavy vehicle such as a U-Haul to plow into a crowd.

After Artan's attack, though, ISIS apparently felt it needed to double back to the knife tutorial with simpler, illustrated instructions.

In a full-page graphic in the new Rumiyah issue, ISIS reminds lone jihadists to aim for the neck, chest or stomach and to pick a suitable blade. To illustrate which knives not to choose, ISIS shows a butcher block of kitchen knives and a switchblade. They show "the ideal knife" as having a fixed blade, hand guard, and strong handle, as well as being of "suitable length."

They also readdress the issue of choosing targets, in a strong suggestion that Artan chose unwisely for his skill level. Small groups, the infographic says, are good "for shocking terror (if one is capable)."

A lone victim -- showing a photo of a person walking along a street at night -- was the first suggested target, "for prolonged terror campaigns."

Large groups -- showing a crowded, busy city sidewalk -- are "not advised."

DUTCH POLICE ARREST TERRORIST SUSPECT WITH LOADED KALASHNIKOV

Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/re...est-terrorism-suspect-loaded-Kalashnikov.html

Police acting on a tip-off from the Dutch intelligence agency arrested a 30-year-old terrorist suspect and seized an arsenal of weapons in the port city of Rotterdam on Friday afternoon, prosecutors said.

Detectives found a Kalashnikov AK-47 rifle, four boxes of illegal highly explosive fireworks, a large depiction of the Islamic State flag, several mobile phones and 1,600 euros in cash when they searched the suspect's apartment.

"He is suspected of preparing a terrorist crime," prosecutors said in a statement. Judges ordered the suspect remanded in custody.

'TERRORIST? MY BROTHER WOULD WET HIS PANTS!'

AD.nl
http://www.ad.nl/rotterdam/terrorist-mijn-broertje-is-een-schijterd~adcec6d0/

The terror suspect who was arrested Wednesday in Rotterdam is Jaouad A. (30). Police found a Kalashnikov, two full magazines of ammunition and four boxes of illegal fireworks at his home. But with his detention no attack has been prevented, his brother said. "Who wants an attack in the Netherlands? No one, right?"

Jaoud A. was transferred yesterday to the terrorism wing of the prison in Vught, his brother Bilal tells. He is suspected of preparing a terrorist attack. According to the prosecution information from the AIVD [Dutch Intelligence Service] led to the arrest of the Dutchman of Moroccan origin. The fact that he had an IS a flag in his house, is considered by the prosecution as a confirmation of that suspicion.

The whole neighborhood thought they came for him, Bilal A says. He is the younger brother of Jaouad. The anti-terrorist unit continued down the street, they rammed the front door and the one of the basement. Men in white suits searched the house. Four officers went to the work of the wife of Jaouad and took her in. "He was never detained before," Bilal said this Friday at the Van Speykstraat, where he and his family live. "He would wet his pants." The cracks are still visible in the window by the front door.

The wife of the arrested Jaouad does not want to talk. His brother does. "Because I keep hearing all kinds of wrong information about my brother on the news." If he is religious? "He prays five times a day, but he is not radical. That flag they found here is seen as an IS flag, but many ordinary Muslims have that in the house. And he kept it in the basement, under a layer of dust. It is not that he had the flag hanging in the living room. "

That he kept a machine gun in the house, is nothing out of the ordinary, according to Bilal. "Everyone does have a weapon, right? And those people in the Staatsliederenbuurt [neighbourhood], those members of the Mocro mafia are not seen as a terrorist either, are they?"

Yeah bro, we all have kalashnikovs. And ammunition. Basement. ISIS Flag.

At least 25 dead after bombing at Egypt's main Coptic Christian cathedral

attachment.php

Security forces examine the scene inside St. Mark Cathedral in central Cairo, following a bombing, Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016. The blast at Egypt's main Coptic Christian cathedral killed dozens of people and wounded many others on Sunday, according to Egyptian state television, making it one of the deadliest attacks carried out against the religious minority in recent memory. (Omar El-Hady via AP)
"I found bodies, many of them women, lying on the pews. It was a horrible scene," said cathedral worker Attiya Mahrous, who rushed to the chapel after he heard the blast. His clothes and hands were stained with blood and his hair matted with dust.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Sunday's attack.
Egypt has seen a wave of attacks by Islamic militants since the military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi, a freely elected leader who hailed from the Brotherhood, in 2013. Many of Morsi's supporters blamed the overthrow on Christians, and several churches and other Christian-owned properties were ransacked in the aftermath.

And while they are all together in prison, they plan more attacks, and sway even more prisoners to join their evil groups. It is frustrating.

FBI: Phoenix man praised 'lone wolf' ISIS attacks

http://www.azcentral.com/story/news...task-force-arrests-derrick-thompson/95775640/

Officials said Thompson had posted support for the type of "lone wolf" attacks that ISIS organizers have encouraged in Western nations. He apparently was on a quest to obtain firearms, although a previous felony conviction prevented him from possessing them.

Court documents state that Thompson is an "avowed jihadist" who made frequent contact with ISIS websites. As recently as October, Thompson's Google account was used to search for istishad (martydom) vs. suicide, "fatwa on killing civilians" and a search for which type of handguns were the most powerful.

That same month, a post to his Google Plus account stated, "Right, we need to get down with this ISIS s--t."

"The FBI has warned state and city police of possible ISIS threats against the US after a list of churches across the country was posted online by fanatics.

The bureau said while no one specific threat had been traced, officers should be more vigilant over the holidays given the amid 'aspirational calls for attacks'.
In a memo it told how the Islamic extremist group had compiled a list of churches across the country and shared it online.

'The FBI is aware of the recent link published online that urges attacks against U.S. churches."
