WESTON — Circuit Judge Jake Reger plans to seat the main jury of 12, plus two alternates,.....
.....Before lunch recessed at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, the jury pool shrank from 67 to 60 during the jury selection process.

The state gets to boot two jurors it doesn't want from the regular jury pool, and then one of the alternates. The defense gets to boot six from the regular jury process, and one alternate.

That means the court needs 24 qualified potential jurors to choose from — there were 60 left by the lunch break, although those who showed up late probably could be called into action. Two out of five jurors were excused for cause.
[.....]
The process is expected to take all day and maybe part of Friday, Reger told the pool.

Shortly before noon, Reger, Prosecutor Christina Flanigan and defense attorney Tom Dyer appeared to have settled on 16 potential jurors — 12 women and four men — out of the 20 needed to select from for the main panel. (. . .)

Once enough qualified jurors are seated, the defense will strike four jurors and the state two from the main pool to get to 12. The state and defense then will strike one juror each from the alternate pool to get to two.
