Found Safe NY - Iona, 51, & Emily Costello, 14, Greenport, 30 March 2015

Is there video of her picking Emily up at school? Did Emily tell any of her friends about the "trip" to NY? I'm hoping there is video surveillance of Iona and Emily parking the car and walking away. Otherwise, we really don't know who left the car in NY.

I'm glad for the fast LE response though. - hopefully the CCTV cameras in the parking area the car was left in haven't been wiped and the attendants may remember if it was IC and EC that dropped off the car. Very concerning though, I mean if foul play may have happened by a stranger ( a mugging perhaps?) I'd imagine two victims would be very rare as opposed to being targets alone. Does that make any sense?

She and I have mutual friends.

ETA. And that friend is a WS member. That's odd.

Manhattan is filled with security/surveillance cameras.

The parking lot was on 42nd Street...there will be footage, but were Mom & daughter seen on video leaving the parking lot?

It's NY...so I'm not expecting much info will be released to the public by LE:

Detective Ken Richard of the Southold Police Department, who has been handing the case, could not be reached for comment on Friday.

Chief Flatley said his department is working with the New York Police Department in an attempt to locate Ms. Costello. An NYPD spokesperson declined comment on the investigation since the report originated out of Southold.

Really alarming case.. hoping they're found safe. I hope we get more details about their plans, where they may have gone. To me, the car and lack of any phone activity doesn't look good at all.

IF they had met harm prior to arriving in Manhattan, doubt a perp would drop off her vehicle all the way in Manhattan, particularly in an area she would have parked in if staying at a hotel in the city.

So my question would be, were Mom & daughter captured on video either leaving the parking lot, or were they picked up on video in the nearby streets?

IOW, did they make it out of the parking garage on foot?

“Her going into the city is normal behavior,” Jane Costello said of her cousin. “They frequent the city for theater and art museums.

They must have been picked up camera somewhere. The garage. Stores. Theater. Somewhere.
But...it is NY. And NYPD does not "share".

Agree. Not as if they simply haven't contacted the family or staff, etc>there has been no cell phone activity on either cell since March 30th:

There has been no phone activity on either Iona or Emily’s phone since March 30, Costello said, and calls to their phones are unanswered.

According to Ms. Costello, Iona picked up her daughter at the school on Goodfriend Drive in East Hampton on March 30 and the two are believed to have gone into Manhattan because Iona’s car was found in a parking garage on 42nd street. According to the parking garage attendant, it was left there on March 30, Ms. Costello said.

Is there video of them leaving the parking garage on 42nd St?

If they dropped off the car, wonder how late it was.

Ok so they got there on the 30th. It must have been dinner time, right? Did they go to dinner? Did they check in to The Hilton and freshen up before seeing the play?

Like other posters said-paper trail would be credit cards and surveillance cameras.

I feel a knot in my stomach.

It was previously reported that the car was found in a garage on 42nd Street.

After Emily failed to return to class on Tuesday, the Costellos reported the pair missing to Southold Town Police.
Iona’s car was found in a parking garage on 42nd Street, Costello said, adding that mother and daughter love theater and art museums.
Nothing about a trip to New York would be out of the ordinary, “except we haven’t been able to contact them and Iona is usually very concerned about her animals.”
Iona is 51 years old, about 120 lbs, 5’10 and blonde; Emily is now tall as her mother, Costello said.

I know, Trigger. I am afraid for them.

As far as paper trail, it will be tough. Who would have access to her banking and finances? No one. Computers? No one. LE will have to subpoena records and that will take time. Ugh.

Update...video

Authorities are searching for a Greenport teenager and ninth grade student at the Ross Upper School in East Hampton and her mother, who did not return from a late-March trip to New York City as planned.

Family members became concerned when 14-year-old Emily Costello did not show up for her first day back to school from spring break on Tuesday. She and her mother were believed to have been on a trip into New York City.

Emily’s mother, Iona, owns a horse farm in Greenport and relatives say it is unusual for her to not to be in constant communication with her farm hands. Iona’s husband and Emily’s father, George Costello, died in 2010.

“She usually keeps in touch with the people who tend the farm,” said her cousin, Jane Costello. “It was the farm help who said they hadn’t heard from her and that was odd.”

Relatives have been repeatedly calling the cell phones of Emily and Iona to no avail.

“Both phones go straight to voicemail,” Jane Costello said.

Feeling helpless, Jane Costello said the family is doing all it can to cooperate with police and is trying every method at its disposal to find the mother and daughter.
