On FAKE NEWS:

Two very large-Goliath large online entities, are being called out for causing widespread chaos. I hope this will prompt regulatory measures to be implemented.

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

One thing that has come to my mind that seems a bit unlikely but possible:

Has anyone seen the movie The Accountant? This guy used to be an accountant right? Maybe he was suffering from sort of mental health issue and recently saw this movie and in his mind, placed himself as the character in the movie. Lots of weapons, weapons with scopes, etc.

I am curious about his IQ.
IMO he could easily have qualified to been a MENSA member. I've known a couple of men in it. ZERO ability or desire to conform to dressing normal. They too were sloppy. *I am not saying all MENSA members are sloppy. The 2 I know ARE.

I'm a long-time Mensa member (and long-time WS lurker!). Respectfully disagree that he would have qualified, but agree on the conforming & sloppiness. Spurred to respond because that has jumped out at every event I've gone to in the last 25+ years.

Also, to other posters' points, our family has two sibs who are long-term - decades - estranged. Other than gambling and guns, much in common with SP and his father. We have lived in fear of them for a long time, unsure when they'd snap. And absolutely nothing we can do - have explored options for years. So far, all we have is a 3" thick file of their antics & rants on file at sympathetic PDs. Zero we can do.
Heartfelt condolences, and prayers for strength & comfort to everyone ravaged by this horrible, horrible tragedy.

1. what’s the estimated space between his room and the venue...if someone can please give me that in the simplest terms.
It seems far in relation to bullet range but I know that is relative to the type of weapons.

2. Is the approximate SP shooting activity time line of 10:08 to 10:20pm given by LE remaining as accurate?

The distance measured from the base of the building:

Agree, me too, Cady. From her older pics on FB, she was decked out in serious diamonds in several photos. Also had
pics of 'her' trips all over the world. My take was SP was a "sugar daddy" and her living life to the fullest was on his dime. Also how do you live with someone for three years and not notice things? She had to see he was 'off' in many ways.
She certainly got $ from him!

This says she was in Hong Kong 9/25 & will be in the US on Wednesday.

Okay, I'm feeling stupid. When I read about video poker yesterday, I thought it was something he did at home, online. Now I'm catching on that video poker is a game that is played at the casino. Right?

I'm not a gambler - never saw the appeal in it - so I'm a bit slow at following!

I thought it was online poker! lol I'm not a big gambler at all. I might bet a few dollars on the ponies or play a little 21, if we go to a concert, at the gambling boat, but that's it for me. I used to love to play a friendly game of seven card stud, and while I wasn't a pro, I wasn't too shabby, back in my youth, but I haven't played in decades. That's the extent of my gambling knowledge. I know some folks are really good at though.

You bring up a good point. We've rendered LE nearly powerless in dealing with dangerous people who stockpile weapons, ammo and explosive materials. While its difficult for LE to deal with a single lone wolf who kills with one gun, its another matter when they're powerless to deal with people exhibiting abnormal behavior while accumulating large amounts of dangerous weapons.

In the case of this killer, the roommate should have gone to LE, allowing them to at least put him on their radar, have a discussion with him, etc. It seems kind of crazy when LE can kill an innocent person who makes a wrong move during a traffic stop, but can't do anything about a madman with a garage full of automatic assault weapons and explosives.

I hear what you are saying but, unless there is a limit to the number, and types, of firearms that a person can own, this lone wolf, according to police records, had never committed a crime and could have just been an avid collector. Just as some folks collect other items, like knives, or civil war war memorabilia, some collect automobiles, or spoons from different states. I collect chips from different Harley dealerships. We have several firearms. I'm not going to put a number out, but, for around here it wouldn't be uncommon. Neither my spouse, nor I, have ever had an arrest. I've never even had a speeding ticket. Should I be put on a radar? I don't think so. Do I agree with bump stocks and 3MR trigger systems? No. That's what turns a semi into basically an automatic, and I have no reason, personally, to own a firearm that is capable of firing 300-400 shots per minute. That's where I draw the line, for me, personally. I'd not have a use for either of those devices as I don't intend to mow down an entire herd of deer, or group of people at a concert.

If I had a nickel for everyone's postings all over that net that used the word " why" I would be rich. This guy has baffled me so much that I am even beginning to wonder if there really is a Manchurian Candidate in real life.

Then this thought hit me. I remember a neighbor who was a real smart guy but began having some depression so the wife talked him into going to their GP . He was given Wellbutrin and that's when things got really out of hand. He held a gun to her head, he was bonkers and it was the drug. He got off of it and returned to normal. If he had any remaining depression my friend said he was dealing with it without the use of Big Pharma. I think that is a good idea since it has been 24 years and he is fine to this day. Wonder if we are going to find out the Vegas killer was given some new promising drug for depression that had this side effect.

I hope not as there is already such a big stigma associated with using medication to treat mental health issues. It would only make it worse and more people would suffer in silence. As much as I loathe Big Pharma, the truth is that depression and anti-medication can be life savers for most people who need it. That's a topic for another time tho.

2 private planes
4 homes (never spoke to neighbors much)
Drove RENTAL cars
Lived in hotels more than homes

He was up to something!
I WOULD NOT be surprised if he was also an undiscovered serial killer once his DNA comes back.

He grew up hiding a secret about who his dad really was, keeping secrets was second nature to him. IMO

I am curious about his IQ.

Somehow he stayed off the radar, never planting roots in any place for long.
I too would like to know about how he did in school where he went to college etc...

Me too. I think this guy was way too smart. I agree with most everything else too.

As much as I dislike 'conspiracies' , and find them revolting and insulting to the victims--- some people will follow them as a means to understand the incomprehensible.
Thankfully, most if not all who were at that concert and other events would never ,ever commit an atrocity like the MB hotel massacre.
Those of us who are decent people can probably never understand how a person gets to that point -- how he could sink so low, and yet carry on in his life without attracting attention.
Even the perp's bringing up suitcases to his room wouldn't have given cause for alarm.
Some people bring clothes, antiques, etc. to trade shows.

It would be interesting to find out if he was on antidepressants.
There's some information out there that's disheartening about the side effects !

The "taxi driver" video was unapproved yesterday because it is a random youtube video and we cannot veryify the source of a video posted by a private individual, nor can we verify that it has not been altered. The video is supposedly sourced back to CNN, but as yet no CNN link has been provided.

So, unapproved again today until someone comes up with the original source link.

The Washington Post is keeping a running list of Misinformation, Fake News, And Viral Hoaxes that are being continuously spread and have occurred directly after the tragedy. The" You are all going to die" including the woman on video, is included in the misinformation and hoaxes.

You are not wrong  The woman "Brianna" was apparently an attention seeker, as unfortunately happens during times like these. I find it repugnant. In any event, he is a running list of viral hoaxes and misinformation about the Las Vegas Massacre via the Washington Post:

"You are all going to die"/ "Brianna" =Fake News

Other Viral Hoaxes and Misinformation cited in the article include:

Fake Missing People

Well meaning people retweeted the above along with other photos of the fake missing people that trolls tweeted in hopes of retweets.

Fake Shooters:

Recent Convert to Islam: FALSE

Paddock is Antifa: =False/Fake News

This running list of misinformation and viral hoaxes spreading after the massacre will be updated as needed by The Washington Post.

I "thanked" your post but wanted to also reply in thanks because this is SUPER important. Hoaxes run rampant after these kinds of things. Good lookin' out, Spice!

There have been several posts recently (sorry for not quoting them) wondering about how people can pick on signs that someone might commit an act like this one.

This is an article that appeared in Mother Jones magazine in 2015, and it is an excellent in-depth examination into the current thinking about this topic.

Inside the Race to Stop the Next Mass Shooter: A Growing Number of Cops, Psychologists, and Community Leaders are Working Together to Stem the Bloodshed

Very interesting article.
Is this why, according to reports, local authorities had knowledge of this guy? And does anyone have a direct link to the article saying LE had "knowledge" of him, because I can't seem to find it.

Sorry for reposting it!
Found a link with the taxi video.

A taxi driver waiting at the Mandalay Hotel in Las Vegas picked up terrified passengers as she fled the scene.

Cabbie Cori started filming as she drove close to the hotel and then picked up the horrifying sound of gunshots.

The hero taxi driver chillingly can be heard saying there aren't many people fleeing the scene if it is gunshots.

Cori said: "It sounds like automatic gun fire.

"Where are the cops at? I'm just here at the porch of the Mandalay Bay and everything just seems to be normal here.”

Imo most depression meds don't cause you to go psychotic or anything like that. Sleepy. Yes.

The thought has crossed my mind as well. The medication was a huge factor in Columbine.
My brother used Wellbutrin and it eliminated his impulse control and thinking before he did things. He ended up rolling his car in a situation he never would have otherwise.

In the 70's two of my cousins went hiking with their spouses and a longtime family friend.
The ladies decided not to finish the hike and the family friend followed them down.
He ended up killing them both and it was a bizarre crime and scene with no apparent motive.
My family pushed for answers because they knew the guy wouldn't have done this, but he clearly did.
He ended up having a tumor on his frontal lobe. Died a few years later.

I think IF he has really been a law abiding citizen, something caused this guy to stop restraining himself and do what he wanted to do.
Whether that was a medication, a tumor, degenerative brain disease, or just a decision that if he was going to die it was going to be big. Or even some other reason. Something flipped the switch where he went from normal to planning this and carrying it out. Something inhibited his ability to restrain himself. I do think finding out what that was could be helpful. Understanding why is important.
