The Chamber of Commerce was asking for donations. They provided a list of items needed. Among the items were tops but specifically said NO v-necks.

I wonder if it is because the v-necks show just how emaciated the children are. Like in the picture I posted of WWII POWs.

Keep in mind that these POWs were full-grown men when they were taken into captivity. They didn't have their growth stunted by lack of food during formative years.

There is video. It's not inappropriate behavior per se. I see it as inappropriate affect. A lot of smiling as she sits there charged with the torture of her children. Her affect does not match the gravity of the situation.

Before it's said, I do not see it as "nerves".

MOO

Pretty common for psychopaths of whatever variety they may be. Definitely NOT nerves. she was already responding inappropriately from the time the police arrived and she was "perplexed" as to why they were there. She reminds me of Jodi Arias in this respect where there's this flippancy (not sure that's a real word) about the whole thing. I'm thinking about the other post you (Spice) and I were having re: intellectual disability. When you said that before I was automatically assuming mental retardation not an ID involving an ADHD, Aspergers, High functioning Autism type cluelessness. I could see that but could still be a result of the PD categorization. lol I know I'm
Splitting hairs here. The psych side of all this fascinates me so. I know at this point we have pretty limited info, so all just speculation in an attempt to sort things out with all y other folks. I'm a psych nerd, lol. [emoji6]

It's behind a pay wall. Can you snip or copy it and post it here?

Has the 911 call been released? If not, does anyone think they will release it? I really want to hear it. I’m so proud of this girl for what she did for her siblings and herself. I’m also glad that 911’s dispatcher took her call seriously. I could easily imagine someone thinking it was a prank call at first because saying something like “my 11 siblings are being held hostage by my parents” just sounds so unreal.

I can’t imagine the simultanous fear and relief she must have felt.

"Toddler with Fangs" is the best description of it ever isn't it? I see the possible high range ID in her affect in photos and especially her behavior in the Vegas Videos. But again, pure vibe and speculation. May not be true. The inappropriate affect may be more along the lines of untreated serious mental illness as you say. For sure. Something is not right. And our tiny peek into her childhood family dynamics are very telling. All I know is that I am not buying the narrative that she was some sort of "mastermind" and he was the deferential follower AT ALL. It was both of them. Likely a toxic storm . But DT is not just deferentially complicit IMO.

No way.

She is absolutely stuck in a childhood fantasy. With her, this has reputation compulsion all over the place. Intergenerational abuse and trauma is my best guess at this point. Not excusing anything, just trying to understand the incomprehensible in some way shape or form.

Agreed [emoji817]. Def both. I'm just dying to sort his psych profile out. I keep getting wrapped up in her tho. And I just don't feel there's as much family history to piece something together yet. Unless I missed something.

I don;t know either. I hope we will get to find out. I have three borderlines in my life (MIL, aunt by marriage and long time friend from childhood) and have come across about three more in my practice. Only one was into cutting that I am aware of. Three made suicide attempts or seriously threatened.

All have zero damn memory of the things they have done or things that occurred in the past. They completely remember them the wrong way. Only a couple have been sexually promiscuous as most are supposed to be.

I think while some of that is common, none of it has to be there for the person to be diagnosed. For me, the constants are intense fear of abandonment that results, inexplicably, in crazy behaviors that ensure they will be abandoned - rages, pulling the person in and then shutting them out, intensive boundary crossing (like the allegation that LT picked the locks and watched her sister come out of the shower, if that allegation is to be believed) but extreme distress or rage if anyone ever tries to pry into their business, and then it's the idealization which swings to hatred.

I could see some of that applying to LT. She idealizes her husband. Let's see if she turns on him. She seems to maybe idealize her babies but then hates them as they age? I don't see evidence of intellectual disability in her actions or facial expressions in the videos, narratives about her, etc. In fact, she seems pretty sharp. "No, we don;t call him James. WE call him Jonathan!" Her ability to keep things hidden. Her close control of her son when he went to college. her stated desire for a reality show. her communications on FB, like to the fertility nurse? etc.

A huge cause of it is actually abandonment by a caretaker. From what I've read and witnessed, the primary caretaker not allowing for proper separation-individuation early in life and then in adolescence is not a cause as much as abandonment is (either physical or more often, emotional). And of course straight up abuse, physical and especially emotional.

I don't know about bi-polar for her. I don't know enough. Don't they tend to have issues with substance or alcohol abuse a lot? Anxiety and depression? The latter sure fits with hoarding.

I hope we will be able to find something out. I doubt it though. Usually that stuff is sealed.

I am bipolar and while I can’t speak for my whole “tribe” 😉, I can try to give you some insight on its effect in my life. I graduated high school in the top 15% of my class. Was always a good kid, never really got in trouble, but shortly after graduating I fell in with the wrong crowd and start doing meth and some things I am frankly horrified with to this day. That lasted about a year, when I was able to turn my life around and get a great job at 19. But about a year later I started having thoughts that I was a failure, I couldn’t do anything right. I obsessed over everything and it all just because so overwhelming to have my mind all over the place. I fantasized about killing myself just to make it go away. Thankfully when I got to this place, I told my doctor and got in a week long outpatient program and received a diagnosis of depression and I was put on a regular antidepressant.

A bipolar person on an antidepressant is almost worse than no medication at all. Yes, now you’re not so depressed but now your manic episodes are so extreme - you don’t have that natural depression in your body that can bring you back down, or bring you down very much since your baseline is now much higher. And a familiar pattern still continued...good for several months, then gamble over $1,000 at the casino in a week....back to good...then go to bars and meet strange guys...it wasn’t until I was diagnosed as bipolar, not depressed, and subsequently given a mood stabilizer to go along with the antidepressant did I start to feel like I had some more control over my life.

Rather than bipolar people having substance abuse problems, I think they’re addiction problems (which can be substances, as I did in the beginning) To me, LT displays some behaviors that are similar to bipolars while not on medications or not on the right ones (mood stabilizers are so important!) For example, addictions such as hoarding, having babies, Disney...and possible manic periods, which can seem to come around like clock work, in the vow renewal ceremonies being held every other year.

Bipolar alone one doesn’t turn a person into this though. I’m not sure what other disorders there are that can turn people into monsters but it’s not been my experience with a solo diagnosis of bipolar. IMO

Does anyone know why the lewd and lascivious charge is for a one year period (11/16/2012 thru 11/15/2013) while the other charges are for 1/1/2010 - 1/14/2018?

Reading that count makes me angry. moo

I would assume that's the time period she gave them.
The rest is for the time that they came to Calif to present.

I love psych nerds... You are my people! LOL.

Intellectual Disability is the accepted term for the former Mental Retardation or MR which is not used by professionals anymore. (Or shouldn't be). Intellectual Disability replaced Mental Retardation in clinical circles at least 6 years ago as the acceptable language. But it takes time to catch on, even within professional circles. Intellectual Disability does not mean Autism or Spectrum disorders. That would be referred to as "On the Spectrum" or a "Spectrum Disorder" and then one would differentiate. Totally different in clinical language.

So ID in the high range would mean the same as MR in the high range just a few years ago...

"Lewd act" is so broad as to be meaningless. I would suggest you not let your imagination run away with those thoughts, because there's no way to know what that charge refers to until we have more information.

Agreed. I keep wondering how it came to be known in the first place. One of the kids, may escapee told. It just seems so random.

Right but I was wondering if it means the abuse stopped. And, if it did why?

Just an FYI, it wasn't a paywall site or pay site for me. I was able to read the full article. I apologize. I had no way of knowing that it would not work the same way for others. Is there any way for me to avoid that in the future?

Hello all ! As a child I personally was mentally and sexually abused by my step father who on Sundays hid behind a pulpit at our private Christian academy. I literally feel for these children. And while our stories are completely different I can relate on so many levels... given the above I wanted to just make a few observations/statements purely based on my opinion.

1. The charge of a Lewd act most likely involves the same girl who escaped. And for LE to charge him with it, and the level he is charged with (force etc) they would have to have hard proof. I am also fairly certain she is the same brave girl that is holding the 2 year old baby in one of the vow renewal photos.
2. In this type of scenario victims are not usually that brave to escape and call 911 etc., not because they don’t know how but because it has been beaten into you to not be. Period.
3. I have a strong feeling that baby is hers. When I became a mother (by my husband) I truly felt I could fight off an army if it was for my child. Most mothers can agree with me, you will do anything for your child.
4. DNA tests and doctors etc... you have to remember this is a process, asking if they want a hug or a blanket could be a trigger. I promise you all the LE, caregivers etc are working on gaining trust right now and that’s as far as they have gotten.
5. The v neck shirt topic. When you have been abused you also feel shame and just want to own your own body. It could be as simple as they want their bodies to be theirs. 30 years later and I still rarely wear a v-neck. And if I do, I have a cami under.
6. The leaving the food on the counter. My parents did that in regards to sweets. I was 7 and my step father would be eating a pie dropping the crumbs on the floors & I would be vacuuming up the crumbs from under him. It’s a total control thing & it’s sick. I didn’t ever really have treats until I was 14 years old.
7. Don’t try to get into the minds of the abusers. It’s not worth it. When I was around 8 I remember being woken up in the middle of the night because there was a slug in my parents bathroom. I had to go and grab the salt and pour it on it to kill it. My parents laid in bed and laughed at me the whole time. I still don’t understand why they thought it was funny. And I never want to understand.
8. I have a feeling they stayed up all night so that they would be less observed. Most people are sleeping when they are awake. Better chance of being under the radar.
9. The journals - I was allowed to keep a journal. However, I didn’t know at the time but my parents also read it. In hindsight I realize they used it to find out my fears etc. and then they indirectly used those fears against me.
10. The vow renewals - my parents renewed their vows twice... once after my step father admitted what he had done - he said it was their way of starting over ... and then again a year later when he admitted he had done it to my sister too.

Those are my opinion and thoughts ... I hope it helps.

But those instrux are how to make a KK paper hat out of newspaper. And the KK hats have been supplanted by green baseball caps. Turpin son must have got that hat at a promotion for a grand opening?

Our KK gives them to any child who comes in and I have had them handed to me as well. They will even hand them out in the drive-thru if they see children are in the vehicle so I don’t think it is specifically for grand openings.

In the longer wedding video I thought she was paying more attention to Elvis than in the one where they so adored each other. It was like a foreplay ritual in that video. eck

I noticed this, too. She rarely looked into DT's eyes during the wedding chapel video I saw.
Also, during their arraignment, I noticed DT kept trying to make eye contact with LT, but she rarely reciprocated - as if to ignore him. Neglect him. Not trying to make him the victim, but it just came across as her emotionally manipulating him by refusing to look into his eyes. It's obvious that's what he wanted.

Someone mentioned earlier that some of the photos looked photoshopped. After looking at the photos in blue of everyone jumping in the air (one of the girls is missing half her arm) and one of the photos in the Dr Seuss shirts (a large random hand doesn’t seem to be attached to anyone), I am inclined to agree. Has anyone else noticed inconsistencies in some of the photos?

Has anyone noticed that DT appears to have exceptionally thick hair for his age and that LT has extreme thinning on top? That amount of thinning on a woman's head usually indicates some sort of hormone issue.

She seems too selfish to sew for her children. I make quilts and have recently started sewing for my little girl. She loves the stuff I make, as imperfect as it is (which is very imperfect!), and her happiness makes me want to make her more things. It’s time consuming and I wouldn’t do it if she didn’t love it. LT doesn’t seem like she liked her kids or cared about what they liked. I assume she bought the dresses off Etsy or something.

How sad that the same dresses fit the girls two years later. They didn’t grow. :(

It really is sad. I was going through some of my youngest daughter's clothes from just a couple years ago and they all look so tiny compared to what she wears now! She went from age 11 to 13 so it was a big growth spurt. Those kids should have grown a lot in those two years.

The Chamber of Commerce was asking for donations. They provided a list of items needed. Among the items were tops but specifically said NO v-necks.

That was a weird request, but I'm not sure that too much can be made out of it. Maybe the caregivers just decided that that would be the best type of clothing for them to have at this time.
