Wait I thought that all have died from heart attacks, pulmonary edema, and respiratory failure. Now he’s saying they died cuz they ate or drank too much?

ETA: Not to mention Miranda had just arrived there and only had one drink. She wasn’t there long enough to enjoy the “all inclusive”!

ridiculous! They are scrambling right now. Moo

They should be able to be refunded with everything going on. I guess they care more about money then safety. Moo

Having been to the DR and lived in Nicaragua for a few years I can say this. They do spray, Nicaragua way more...usually you are told to leave your house or restaurant while they spray and take your pets. You usually just hang on the street for 20-30 minutes. That being said, no one died from it. Now if it got directly in, that I can't say for sure...obviously if they want you to leave, you know there's nothing good in it.
I'll still return to the DR, I don't stay in AIs there either, have had zero issues. I feel like it's more likely tainted alcohol to be honest. In the DR you can mostly expect a non-investigation by police. That's just how it is unfortunately. Underpaid and lack of any sort of tools/skills. Pretty much same in Nicaragua.

On Tucker Carlson Tonight

An official (spokesperson) from the Dominican R. was responding to a reporter on the ground on Tucker Carlson tonight and he said.... People on vacation are not used to all inclusive and sometimes they eat and drink too much! - (they are blaming the victims)

Of course Tucker had a great response- Ok, so people are eating themselves to death..

Yes, I saw this. The implication was that Americans just go on vacation and gorge themselves on the unlimited food, and alcohol. They over indulge and die.

If this was the case, people would be dropping dead of heart attacks by the 100's every day in Las Vegas.

And on cruise ships! Have you seen the amount of food people eat there?

FBI is now investigating SIX mysterious American deaths at
two hotels in the Dominican Republic - all within the past year
  • Robert Bell Wallace, 67, of California died on April 14 after drinking alcohol from his in-room minibar at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana
  • Across the island, Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41, collapsed and died inside her room on May 25 also after drinking something from the minibar at Bahia Principe
  • Engaged Maryland couple Cynthia Day, 49, and Nathaniel Holmes, 63, were discovered dead inside a room at the same resort in La Romana on May 30
  • One year ago, Yvette Monique Sport, 51, of Glenside, Pennsylvania, also died after drinking from the minibar at that resort, Sport's family members said
  • In July of 2018, David Harrison of Maryland died while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana, which his widow now questions
  • On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention joined other international agencies in conducting tests at the Bahia Principe properties
  • It was not immediately clear whether other Dominican resorts, like the Hard Rock in Punta Cana, were also inspected
  • The FBI confirmed it was assisting local authorities in investigating the deaths

Tainted Alcohol?
When my daughter was going to Tulum, Mexico last spring, I was doing some research. I had heard about people getting deathly ill in some of the resorts there. And some of it was traced back to tainted alcohol. When you order a drink at a bar, if it is a cheap bar, you don't know what you are actually drinking. Some bars 'refill' their alcohol bottles with tainted or counterfeit or old alcohol. It can make someone very sick. Some have died.

Expert tips for avoiding tainted alcohol in Mexico

Expert tips for avoiding tainted alcohol in Mexico

    • Insist on watching your drink being made. “Traveling or not, consumers should always be aware of what is being put in their glasses before they consume it,” Godlin says. “Ask the bartender to open bottles in front of you, and avoid drinks that involve pouring from a tap or pre-mixed bottles.” And the Journal Sentinel’sinvestigation revealed allegations that some legitimate-looking bottles of liquor may have been filled with tainted alcohol. So far, beer and wine served in unopened bottles has not been shown to be problematic. Overall, most tourists return safely from Mexico, but understanding what to be wary of may help you minimize risks.

If I had all expense paid vacation to DR right now, would I go? Nope
If Max 8 started flying tomorrow and I got a free ticket to anywhere, would I go? Nope
But anyway. Probably already mentioned but antifreeze would be so easy to obtain and I believe it’s odorless and tasteless.

I believe it's slightly sweet tasting, so a mixed drink hides the taste pretty well

But I don't think it fits the profile of these deaths. I believe it takes a while to cause the kidney damage that is ultimately fatal.

Antifreeze poisoning: Symptoms, treatment, and prevention

And where would you get ahold of "Antifreeeze" or ethylene glycol in a warm country like DR? Maybe for marine vessel refrigeration or something?

Have you ever traveled with Europeans? They drink enormous amounts of alcohol and overeat like champs, too.

I read that the majority of tourists to DR are actually European, rather than USA or Canadians

John Corcoran, the brother of Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran, was found dead in his hotel room in the Dominican Republic back in April. According to TMZ, John died of an apparent heart attack.

John was in his 60s and retired, though he owned Statewide Roofing and Siding in Edgewater, New Jersey. According to the report, he vacationed in the Dominican Republic every year.
John died of a heart attack but his cause of death has not been proven via an autopsy — at least, that’s what Barbara told TMZ.

It’s unclear where he was staying or what he may have been doing before his death.

A Florida man who fell sick with a mystery illness during a Dominican Republic vacation is warning other travelers to avoid the country altogether, according to reports.

“Don’t go,” said Jerry Martin, who went with his wife to Caribe Club Princess Beach Resort & Spa in Punta Cana last month for their 40th wedding anniversary — before reports surfaced of American tourists dying at other hotels on the island, according to news station WTVT. “Just don’t go.”

Within days of arriving on May 17, Martin reportedly became severely sick with stomach pain while swimming in the pool.

“Fire in the bottom of my stomach. Pain, excruciating pain,” Martin told WTVT. “We were down at the pool when it hit, and I had to go up and just lay down and hold my stomach. It was on fire.”

Martin said he was unable to enjoy the rest of his week-long vacation because of the illness. He went to the emergency room once he returned home to Plant City, Florida.

Now three weeks later, Martin said he’s still suffering from symptoms and visited the hospital five times. He claimed he has continued to lose weight and undergone tests to get to the bottom of his health woes.

According to this article, 5 things to know about your car radiator and how to keep it cool, engine coolant(antifreeze) is necessary to keep a vehicle's engine from overheating.

-----------
Snipped from article:
"Coolant, a mixture of antifreeze (ethylene glycol) and water is a fluid pumped around the engine and kept cool with the help of the radiator. The purpose of this antifreeze is to keep the water in the radiator from freezing in cold temperatures and, more relevant to the UAE, boiling over in the warmer climates.

A low coolant level in the radiator is one of the major reasons for overheating in vehicles."

ETA: I'm not a resident nor have I visited DR, but seems like coolant would be sold in auto parts/supply stores, large retailers, and possibly even convenience/grocery stores.

I believe antifreeze is no longer sweet because our government requires the addition of something bitter tasting so it's no longer used for murder. I don't know about other countries. Also the kidneys will have crystals (the end product oxalic acid precipitates into crystals in the kidneys) which is identifiable during autopsy.

Is someone intentionally refilling these bottles with a lethal substance, or is it just a batch of bad alcohol from time to time?

I don't think anybody is intentionally filling the bottles with a lethal substance. Rather, more likely motives could be:

A- A gang is putting drugs in the alcohol with the goal of severely inebriating the drinkers and then robbing them or perhaps sexually assaulting women. But... the gang accidently overdoses the victims to the point of death.

B- A "midnight bottler" (bar slang for alcohol bait and switcher) is removing higher quality alcohol from the bottles and substituting a lower cost alternative. The high quality alcohol is then either drank or sold.

In almost all cases, the lower cost alternative is distilled professionally and perfectly safe to drink- if one does not mind gagging. But.... instead of a cheap brand substitute, the group goes even cheaper and buys home made alcohol off the street in which dangerous chemicals were added to give it "kick". This type of alcohol kills dozens in India and other countries every year.
