GUILTY NM - Renezmae Calzada, 5, found deceased, Rio Arriba County, 8 Sept 2019 *Arrest*

Sadly, the call didn't go out until the little girl had been missing for most of the day.

I hate how the media refers to Torres as her "father". He is not RC's father! Just a boyfriend, apparently father of another child with RC's mother.

Same age as little Lizzie from Utah. :(

That was interesting imo about “Probation and Parole” assisting...I was wondering about that myself and glad the reporter asked about it.
Seems they are helping with canvassing as they’re obviously good at going door to door lol.

OK, so mom was probably trying to get child support for the child they DO share together, but he's just the boyfriend and not related to this missing sweetheart. Yeah, this will not end well :(.

Catching up.

From above:

“He said the FBI has brought in its evidence response team, subject experts from the behavioral analysis unit as well as experts in social media exploitation such as cell phones, videos and computers.”

Wow, is not often we see outright references to the BAU, moo. Usually that’s something backstage that we don’t often hear about.

ETA:

“Social Media Exploitation” is an FBI term I can’t say I’ve heard specifically before as related to a child case; this is a term that often refers to cyber security, terrorism, intelligence, national security, etc.

““The mission-critical exploitation of social media will enable the Bureau to detect, disrupt, and investigate an ever growing diverse range of threats to U.S. National interests,” adds the RFP.”

Obviously we know that examination of online platforms is a critical part of MP investigations, and that the FBI has experts who analyze this. It’s just interesting verbiage, imo. Did they pull experts specifically from cyber security SME to assist? Usually as related to children we’ll hear references more similar to ICAC, etc. Perhaps there are subsidiaries of “Social Media Exploitation” that assist in child cases as well, etc.

And why Social Media exploitation? She’s 5? Maybe I’m reading too much into their lingo. Maybe they just mean their technology experts in general (Still on page 2).

“It’s what we do in law enforcement. We work together as a team. Since we got on the ground with everyone, we’ve been working as a seamless team the entire day,” he said.”

Thanks, pommy. Watching now to “get a read”.

ETA2: Interesting...

How often we do we in an AA see the FBI SAIG (Special Agent In Charge) do a news conference like this and so promptly —not often enough. This response is very public and major. Often there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that we don’t hear about. These guys are utilizing SM, etc to help get the word out. Sorry having trouble explaining exactly what I mean.

(Alright watching now.)

@Foxfire would be thrilled to see how LE utilizes “their best tool the American public” (yes that’s a @Foxfire quote) and SM these days...it just took some time, Foxy. But they’ve learned what you always said.

Interesting.

Could it be to do with human sex trafficking rings where they use social media to communicate?

Imoo

I wonder if RC's Mother is a fan of "Twilight"? "Renezesme" is the same name as the child in "Twilight". The movie came out about several years ago.

My daughter is such a fan, she named a litter of barn kittens for the characters in the series of books.

I’m wondering about the statements eluding to no parental or family involvement in disappearance.

I don't know if there are other direct quotes, but the one I saw said they didn't believe it was a parental abduction, which isn't exactly the same as saying that they know definitively that there's no parental involvement?

Monday afternoon, the girl's mom, relatives and friends gathered in a remote area a few blocks from the girl's home to search for clues or suspicious evidence that might help them find out what happened to the girl. Many volunteered their own ATVs to help in the search.

"I guess they enjoyed coming up here for whatever reason, so they thought it was a good idea to start here," said Pablo Montoya, with the Española Fire Department. "They’ve kinda taken it amongst themselves to start searching. I don’t think there’s any detailed specific information leading us to any one place yet."

Police said the girl’s family is cooperating and they don't believe her parents were involved. They also said this is an active investigation and their current focus is to find the child.

"We will follow every single lead, we will leave no stone unturned to bring Renezmae home," said James Langenberg, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

(Marking to check something later about this quote...)

My thoughts exactly!! I wanted to mention this, but I figured ya’ll might think I was crazy! I’m a grandmother and have read all the books- absolute Twihard! LOL
And this precious little girl reminds me of the one in the movie. I hope she is safe somewhere!

I had to snip a lot of this to comply with the 10% copyright rule. I recommend reading the entire article.

Search continues in Rio Arriba County for missing 5-year-old girl
[...]

So far, investigators have not provided any updates. They had planned on holding a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, but then canceled it due to a lack of new information. Meanwhile, members of the community say they’re doing what they can to help this investigation.

[...]

KRQE News 13 is also learning more about Renezmae’s stepfather, Malcolm Torres, who was taken into custody for questioning.

Torres is essentially the girl’s stepdad. He’s not married to her mom, but they have a young son together.

Just last month, Renezmae’s mom filed for child support from Torres for their toddler son, but investigators aren’t saying if they were together Sunday.

Investigators have not said if Torres was at the house Sunday at all, but KRQE News 13 has learned the home where Renezmae was last seen is Torres’ family’s home.

[...]

On his Facebook page, Torres says he works at the Nambe warehouse in Espanola. The company, which makes housewares, says it fired him because of his lackluster work ethic.

Oh dear @PommyMommy - not sure I can take another one so soon after Maleah, Lizzie, skylea and so many others ....

“We’re pretty sure it wasn’t a parental abduction,” said Lujan.

Renezmae was reported missing by her mother about 6 p.m. Sunday, authorities said. The delay between when she was last seen and when she was reported missing is part of “an ongoing investigation,” according to the sheriff.

[...]

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, members of the girl’s immediate and extended family had gathered with other people on El Llano Road north of Española High School to begin a search of the open country of mostly bare hills and gullies east of town.

The group had numerous private all-terrain vehicles, and Española Fire Department ATVs were also being used. Several people just took off walking through the brush close to the road, then over a hill into the brown landscape.

[...]

Pablo Montoya of the Fire Department said the group was “just doing kind of a search from some information gathered from the family.” Montoya added that authorities otherwise had no details suggesting a specific area to look for the missing girl.

James Langenberg, chief of the FBI’s New Mexico division, said at an afternoon news conference that the FBI had sent “scores” of agents and other personnel, including specialists in evidence response, behavioral analysis and tracking social media to Española to assist in the case.

[...]

Langenberg said it was not unusual for the FBI to get involved in an Amber Alert disappearance. “We reached out to the sheriff’s office and offered our assistance,” he said.

[...]

The Red Cross was also part the search effort, providing food and water for searchers from a base at the Ohkay Owingeh casino. The Red Cross said in a news release that it was also assisting family members “directly involved with this ongoing missing person case.”

Making a couple quick notes on the location and terrain being searched in the above photo:
