FL FL - Leila Cavett, 21, of GA (son Kamdyn, 2, found wandering streets), Miramar, 27 July 2020 #2

This case is really on my mind. Something about her and her struggles. Maybe because of her history she wanted to avoid getting lectures from relatives and didn't share much but she did share some stuff with her dad about a guy asking her to come to Florida. The dad said he spoke to a guy so what happened with that.

Edit
Cavett's father and grandfather told NBC 6 said a man, who they didn’t identify, messaged Cavette asking her to come to Florida and may have sent her money, too. Police have not corroborated the details her family shared. Her family has also said it’s not like Cavett to leave her son alone.

IYO Where do you think the surveillance video is from? The city’s CCTV or Walmart or FLDOT, could be all I guess. Walmart would take a subpoena, though, right?
It's been my experience that Walmart and other businesses let LE view video without any kind of warrant or subpeona. LE generally supplies a warrant to CYA if they actually confiscate original video, but most businesses have no trouble allowing LE to review the tapes.

Same experience here with LE requesting store videos -- I haven't ever seen a situation where the store/business, etc. would not willingly and quickly hand over videos or whatever to LE.

I dont find her actions weird. For some of us, when we are in deep struggle, even with family ready to help? We still wont reach out, in fear of being seen as week an too ill to handle life ourselves. Add to that having a kid to provide for? I totally see someone in such a vulnerable place agreeing to meet up with someone promising payment, whether from a 9-5 or a lucrative escort offer (hey, several hundred you can make while your son is alseep or at school!). And she may have had the bad luck of meeting up with someone who had other ideas. Very sad. And people can be very naive at that age range, making them even more vulnerable.

Re: the “thumbs up”, @Inquisitive2018 asked in the last thread, “so why even respond at all”?

Imo, probably the same reason this happens in endless other cases, to “buy time”.

A thought I've had about the "thumbs up" via Facebook Messenger: at least on my Android phone, you don't even have to swipe off of your lock screen and open up the Messenger app to reply to a message with a thumbs up. You can send a thumbs up directly from the notification - I've inadvertently done this before when trying to swipe the notification off of my screen and my finger lingered a fraction of a second too long on the "thumb up" icon on the notification. I hope that makes sense! Incidentally, my thumbs up was also sent to my grandma :)

Hi I am following this case to I was thinking if Leila traveled 8 hrs or more and her son was sleeping on the ride by the time she arrived her son probably wasn't tired if she went with the person she might be meeting could it possible she fell asleep and her son was awake and the person dropped him off without her knowing and from there I don't know just a thought

Can money be traced to the person that sent it?

Hi, welcome. Anything is possible, it is just I would think she would have came forward by now.

Yes it would seem so if she woke to find her son gone and the person came back without her son with out her knowing there plan there would be a problem I'm sure I know she cared for her son and wouldn't have left him like that it seems those apts or place nearby could be the answer I hope she is found safe !!

Excellent point. She was exhausted and he was wide awake. So, while she slept Sunday morning after her long drive —late night to very early morning — Kam, slipped out the door unaware.

Now, if we think about police knocking door to door, (about 8:30 a.m. or after on Sunday, July 26) I don’t know, maybe Leila slept so soundly she didn’t answer? Or she looked through a peep hole on the door saw it was the police and wouldn’t answer, not noticing Kam was gone? The person she was staying with, if friendly, may have left her sleeping, while he/she went to work? MOO

Added later: However, once she realizes I don’t know I’m speculating, she either continued to sleep or gets up after police knock and she realizes Kam is gone. Or she’s asleep in the truck and never gets a knock from police. Then, what does she do when she awakens and realizes Kam is gone? I would have called the police to report my child missing. But she doesn’t that we know of, maybe she can’t. Instead police find her truck at Walmart, not sure what time though, this is a missing part to the timeline.

Well, first news report of the truck being found comes 3 days later on 29 July 2020 at about 12:09 pm from Miramar PD with jurisdiction change to Hlwd PD.

Never though of that angle, sounds plausible. Now, her truck — or friend’s truck hasn’t been established — is in police lock up. So, if the truck were to be her living quarters, it’s gone. So, back to Walmart. Maybe she didn’t abandon the truck, many people use the parking lot as a pseudo RV park; and Walmart allows it. Maybe she left momentarily with the intent of returning, but after police found Kam and then, the truck. She was left homeless. Just a theory, :).
No, this timeline doesn’t match up. Kam was found 26 July 2020 at 8:22am in Miramar the truck was found around noon on 29 July 2020 in Hollywood. I wonder if the truck was at the apartments the day, Kam was found? Police wouldn’t have known about Leila at that point. If she left the truck at the Hollywood Walmart — on the corner of 441 & Hlwd. Blvd — with the intention of returning it was after Kam was found by police. MOO

In my opinion, I believe whatever happened was probably out of her control. From everything I've read she would not have left her child unattended (even in an exhausted state).

There's so much about this case that's just not on the level. It's disturbing on multiple levels.

I feel like it's imperative that everyone tell the truth about Leila (I mean it's her life we're talking about). If people judge, so be it..what's more important in the long run?

Why would people continue to say that "she doesn't know anyone in Florida" when she clearly does? Why would you hide valuable info that could help her case? Why start go fund me campaign's that are not for the child (to each his own on that I guess, they just always make me leary)?

I don't have a good feeling about this case at all.. In my opinion, she's just a young girl lost and troubled trying to make her way in life with a young son. She deserves better than this.

From what I could see in the photos of the truck being towed, the truck was left in a reputedly rougher area of town with the front driver and passenger windows rolled halfway down, which means it was not secured. It is an easy type of vehicle to steal. IMO, whoever left it there did not intend to come back to the vehicle and possibly wanted to make it easy for it to be stolen. If someone parked the vehicle intending to return to it, they might have rolled the windows down slightly due to the heat in Florida to prevent the windows from cracking, but they would have locked the truck up.

I'm trying to understand how the child got separated from Leila. We have case up here in VA where a mother disappeared locally with her 8 month old daughter.
VA - VA - Keir, 34, & Chloe Johnson, 8 mos, Hampton, 30 April 2017

With Leila it appears someone abducted her (or worse) and left the child behind. Whatever this person did, they didn't have it in them to do it to the child?

This sounds like something was found in the truck at Walmart to focus the search for Leila in Hollywood instead of where Kamdyn was found.

Leila could have been inside one of the apartments and something happened to her so someone just put Kamdyn outside instead of trying to figure out what to do with a baby.
Later they might have moved her truck from the apartments to Walnart. Maybe dumping Leila somewhere along the route. Hopefully not but there was something inside the truck to move the search to Hollywood. MOO
