  • Christopher Laundrie, 62, and wife Roberta, 55, were spotted in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, hours after breaking cover and leaving their North Port home
  • The couple drove 150 mi to Orlando to meet attorney Steve Bertolino and to stop at a library, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal
  • A federal arrest warrant was issued for their son Brian on Wednesday
  • In surreal scenes, undercover agents - believed to be the FBI - followed the Laundries inside and hovered in the aisles as they kept their eyes on them
  • They waited inside the library for around 30 minutes, not stopping to look at a single book or display, before hopping back into their red Dodge Ram truck
  • The pair stopped by another building for an hour before driving back home, tailed the entire way by the same convoy of unmarked law enforcement vehicles
  • Earlier on Thursday, the Laundries were seen returning to their home after a trip to the police station in North Port
  • At the same time, Brian Laundrie's silver Mustang was returned by a tow truck crew after being seized by FBI agents on Monday
  • The vehicle was impounded after it was found abandoned last week at the nearby Carlton nature reserve

  • Brian Laundrie parents are escorted by law enforcement as they return to their home | Daily Mail Online
i guess LE learned something since Brian escaped, too late but at least they learned!

An investigation has been launched into how they handled that stop. So it's not just posters questioning things.

Moab launches investigation into police response to ‘domestic problem’ involving Petito, Laundrie

MOO.
Only thing is an “outside party” filed a request. Unsure who that is. They weren’t investigating themselves on purpose.

From the article-

An outside party had filed a request with the Moab City Police Department asking for a formal investigation into the incident, Moab City Police Chief Bret Edge wrote in a statement.

No, there's nothing odd or suspicious about their behavior. Nothing at all.

MOO.

I honestly don't think he was aiming to hoodwink them with his charm. The dynamic in the body cam situation didn't change until the bearded cop asserted himself as the alpha. The first cop on the scene wasn't buying Brian's story and was skeptically questioning things he said. Brian was picking up on that. You could tell from his body language and how he interacted with that cop that he knew he needed to be careful with him, that he wasn't buying his crap. It wasn't until the bearded second cop somehow asserted himself as the alpha in the situation that the dynamic changed and for some reason the first cop on the scene changed his tack with Brian. And then he and Brian - and the other cop - started paling it up with each other. It was a very interesting dynamic to watch unfold.
I agree, I assumed when I watched it that the bearded cop was a supervisor of sorts, like maybe the first cop was in training or being evaluated. I totally agree that the first cop seemed to have the situation sized up accurately at first, and then things changed when the second, more senior, cop arrived at the scene.

But the resources were there for Gabby which is why so much anger is directed at the Utah officers who responded to the call. There is a women's shelter in Moab. The female Ranger recognized the signs of toxicity yet she provided Gabby no help in reaching out to that emergency shelter.

I’m not sure where you’re seeing this in my post?

In her published interview, her friend stated that BL had previously exercised control over her by taking her drivers license or requiring her to remove an app on her phone that kept her and her friend aware if each other's locations. So, yep, consistent if accurate
Sure. He wanted to isolate her. Big time DV activity.

Strongly suspect that parents know where BL is (they show no sign of being even remotely concerned about his well-being, no appeals, no interviews, just totally clamming up and visiting lawyer).

Lawyer will have told them in no uncertain terms that if they are protecting BL they are staring down the barrel of a Federal gun. They are not that young. Moreover, people are going to hate them if they've been assisting BL.

Cops are going to be very, very, very pissed at them if the whole search has been a wild goose chase or they've been withholding info.

It is clearly in BL's best interests to turn himself in at this point (as it always was).

At some point they're going to fold.

The weirdest thing to me is that they don't seem to feel that under pressure.
BBM

I can't get my head around this either.
I would be jumping out of my skin with the press camped outside of my house.
Truly baffling.

I'm all for them investigating how they handled that incident but they are doing it due to a complaint.

From your link:

“The Moab City Police Department has clear standards for officer conduct during a possible domestic dispute and our officers are trained to follow those standards and protocol,” the city said in a statement Thursday. “At this time, the City of Moab is unaware of any breach of Police Department policy during this incident. However, the City will conduct a formal investigation and, based on the results, will take any next steps that may be appropriate.”

I did some more reading and perhaps Double Jeopardy doesn't apply to this case. The State of Wyoming and the federal government may both have jurisdiction in this case. Probably need to have one of our lawyers chime in on this.
The concept of dual sovereignty means the federal and state governments may both prosecute you for a crime without violating the constitutional protection against double jeopardy if your act violated both state laws and federal statute.

If murder is committed within the borders of a state, that state has jurisdiction. If the victim is a federal or foreign official, or if the crime took place on federal property or involved crossing state lines, or in a manner that substantially affects interstate commerce or national security, the federal government also has jurisdiction.

Is it Double Jeopardy to Charge a Crime at State and Federal Level?

There was a comment in the last thread about how Gabby has sparked a well needed conversation about DV across the nation. I just wanted to add (couldn’t before it closed lol) that I have friends with kids in Middle School who this week are discussing this case, the facts coming out and both DV & how to help if you’re a bystander who sees these things. So this isn’t just a National discussion among adults or groups who raise awareness for the general public. Her loss is driving discussions for younger crowds where we could make a big difference in the future of DV, how it’s seen and how it’s dealt with. It’s hurts my heart that it wasn’t there for her to see and help her get out, but it makes me hope that it gives her family some peace. I hope they see that who she was has drawn many others to her case and that had a domino effect resulting in amazing impact that we’re only beginning to witness.

That’s the opportunity I see. I was talking about it with my sons gf today. They’re 23 & been together since high school. She’s often had friends where she’s been troubled by their relationship. We discussed that Gabby likely would NOT seen herself as a DV “victim”. Girls & boys need to be educated young about what a “good” healthy relationship is. I’ve contacted our local DV org & asked about what kinds of teen educational programs they have & if they need volunteers.

Gabby Petito: Search for Brian Laundrie at Carlton Reserve enters fifth day: LIVE UPDATES

North Port Police respond to FBI arrest warrant for Brian Laundrie
"Our job right now is to continue the search in Carlton," North Port Police PIO Josh Taylor told Fox News Digital when asked about the warrant and if North Port Police will continue to lead the search. "That's what we'll do."
Hmm. I feel like there’s something up with this whole reserve thing…and I’m not entirely convinced they really think he’s in there…JMO

It's not a dlay.
Autopsy is carried out in two parts.
The first is the superficial examination of the body with the naked eye.
This has determined that the manner of her death is homicide and probably quite a lot more as well which they are probably keeping quiet for operational reasons.

The second stage involves packing up everything, organs, tissue samples, gastric contents, bladder contents, bloods, vitreous fluid if available and sending it all off to the laboratories for full analysis.
This invariably takes quite a while as everything must be microscopically assessed..
If they're looking internally for cause of death, I agree. That's why I mentioned drugs or poison. If skull fracture or strangulation (hyoid trauma) or knife marks are present the superficial exam would show that. So, I'm assuming there was no evidence of fatal wounds to the remains. I hate to assume anything, that's why I asked if there had been any news re. COD. thanks good info.

"Answer: Yes. HIPAA allows a hospital on its own initiative to disclose protected health information to law enforcement as necessary for law enforcement to identify or apprehend an individual who has escaped from a correctional institution or from lawful custody."

Thank you.

The topic will come up again and again here - I hope both of us still stand ready to inform people about this. A person can't just check themselves into a hospital and avoid criminal prosecution...

I've said this previously but I feel there is a real possibility that BL blocked Gabby's parents numbers.
The texts and calls wouldn't have come through to the Laundries.
BL could have potentially continued with his fairy tale to his parents, maybe they broke up and she continued on with a friend.
They'd have had no clue until LE came calling once GP was reported missing.

MOO
Do you know your parents' passwords, or they yours (without having to find/look it up somewhere)? I have not a single clue.

Wow, the journalists really get right in the Laundries' faces!
