IMO, therefore, the targets were on the second floor (X and E). The killer had a beef with X and E
The noises up above DM happened first, woke her up around 4am. She thought it was Kaylee playing with her dog upstairs. She heard , "There's someone hear". She sees nothing.

Maybe Ethan and Xana waiting on the Door Dash guy looked out their window when they saw car lights and said those words. DDG knocks, rings the bell or Xana gets to him before that so no noise to bother the others sleeping at 4am. Maybe while Xana was downstairs killer came into her bedroom.

Then DM heard a male voice, "It's ok, I'm going to help you". She opens her door again, nothing, killer is in Xana's room. A little while later DM hears crying and opens her door for the third time to look out. The killer is walking across the living room from the front of the house area towards the kitchen in the the back of the house area by the sliding door.

All that sounds to me like the first place the killer went was the third floor. I think his stalking may have included sitting up on Walenta Drive behind the house. You can see the girl's rooms up there(Google Maps) and if he had binoculars, really well. There's only one house a bit of a distance away from right there and probably no cameras pointed up from King Road. Instead of driving down that since it's basically a dead end that may have been one of his stalking spots.

I really think if Ethan and Xana hadn't been awake and moving around (Door Dash delivery) the killer might have just left after the third floor killings. I wonder if Xana may have seen him coming down the stairs or standing in the kitchen and that's why he killed them.

His first choice for a target was upstairs, IMO.
This is all JMO.

Sorry if this has been discussed...this chat moves so fast....I assume there is an interview with LE after his arrest ....have heard nothing about this.....anyone know what the story is with that and when do those typically come out for public viewing?

But how often does it record sound without motion, as in this case?
Good question. Per Rings website, motion is what triggers the camera to start recording. Once triggered (by motion) the camera can pick up sound but I think the audio and length of storage are based on the plan you have. Something, other than noice triggered the record ignore that night - could
have been him but it also could have been something as random as a leaf or bug.

Obviously, he DIDN'T know better. Sometimes, professional students develop an academic persona that has them doing only what they have to do to pass classes. They're not necessarily deep thinkers, nor do they stray from their chosen curriculum. This fellow may have had a grasp of a kind of collation of law enforcement data, but little or no interest in hands on forensics collection and analyzation. From what I've seen of his writings, he's more interested in what makes a serial killer tick than how many separate pieces make the watch. His greatest interest is motivation, not making plaster casts of footprints. Its like the layers of knowledge required to be a computer specialist. You can know all about programs useful for accomplishing various tasks, but know nothing about the code required to create those programs.
Harkening back to John Dougles (FBI Behavioral Science) these kinds of killer fantasists are so invested in their fantasies that they neglect ruminating on what they'll do post-murder. What seems like obvious, foolish mistakes is nothing more than a fantasist floundering around in blood with a body (or bodies) they have no idea of how to dispose. Post-murder behavior has him scrambling for solutions at a time when the collective mind of law enforcement is already on his trail (See Bundy, Ed Kemper, Dahmer, Wayne Williams).
IMO, BCK tried for many years to understand himself and his thoughts and feelings. He finally just had to do it. Along with that may have been the last rejection from one of the girls and they became the target.

THANK YOU!! so much! For that great interview! The guest brought up some really intriguing points....One of the best ones, I thought, was how in the world was the perp able to
JUST miss the door dash guy?? Possibly suggesting that he somehow had access to what was going on inside the house?
o_O
I thought the same thing. Lots of good info on DNA, too. I feel like the defense finding a good explanation for all this evidence (plus whatever we don't know about) is not going to be strong.

The judge issued a gag order. Neither LE or the attorneys can tell us anything.

Exactly...years to formulate and relish the fantasy...then BOOM!
With no thought about the post-murder cleanup until reality hit him.

There is limited reporting about the PA troopers doing a brief interview, 10-15 minutes, before BK pulled the plug and requested an attorney. He was reportedly asked if he knew about the killings and he responded something like "Of course I do, I'm 8 miles away." or something to that effect. I will dig up the sources for you. :)

Your assumption would be correct, they list the address in the PCA - 1112 King Road. Those lightbulb socket cameras are widely available on Amazon.

Cottonweaver post thread 59 post 874 it’s different, I believe that image is older, the light on the right is not what is there now.

IMO, I would interpret this using Occams Razor as : THE TARGET WAS MADDIE
I'm getting confused. Are you randomly free thinking and spitballing or do you have a theory? From what you've posted today, you believe Maddie, Ethan, and Xana were all targeted? Kaylee was collateral damage?

JMO

Just seeing if anyone else has checked into this but it’s pretty hard to find many cameras that record sound 50 ft away. It would have to be a totl camera. Ring cameras only record like 10 ft.
10 ft? or by decibel level? Does that make sense? To me, that was a terribly loud noise to travel basically through a couple of houses dulling the sound.

I don't have cameras so I don't know how this scenario would work.

JMO

I will respectfully disagree:). We have Ring cameras and the front door one is > 100 ft from the road. EVERY time a car drives or a person walks down the street it records the motion. They are incredibly sensitive and heavy snow/rain, bugs in the summer can trigger it to record. I often turn off the notification sometimes because it gets to be too much.
Does it record the sound clearly, too?

How ironic that he lived with his parents in a gated community.
Safety and Security
One of the biggest reasons people choose to live in a gated community is for security and safety. Only residents and invited guests can enter through the guard gated security gates, providing for safety, accountability, and privacy.
Bet neighbors don’t feel that safe now!

We have heard he made a comment or two then requested an attorney. So LE interview would pretty much end there. We don't know who was on the plane on the long flight back to ID, but I'm sure the prosecutor would prefer that they have not discussed anything with him on that flight. None of it would be admissible anyway, and none of it would be made public.

I haven't spent much time on motivation to this point but this is what has come together for me. I would be interested in hearing thoughts on this. :) I don't think BK held a very high opinion of himself. I think he just pretended to. Back in the Dark Ages, when I was just out of college ;), I had this crazy idea that people who display a superiority complex are often over compensating for an inferiority complex. Since then I've read articles that support that. Dumb luck on my part, I assure you, but I think that's what BK was doing. He desperately wanted to be a genius and get the girl. Being socially awkward, he did what he thought portrayed those things. Only he didn't get it right and he offended people, creeped them out and was rejected again and again.

I think that's why he graded the students so harshly, to show them that he was smarter than they were. "Here's what I know and why you got it wrong." That's why his former friend said BK told him he wasn't very smart and put him down. And he really didn't like women showing him up. Like the woman in class that he made so angry she stormed out and left her things behind.

The same with dating, like when he stated that he could go to a club and get any woman he wanted. Pitiful, really. My experience has been that guys who really can get any (or almost any) woman they want don't spend their time bragging about what they could do. They just do what they do and laugh as the other guys eat their hearts out.

I'm starting to believe he either already had an unhealthy fascination with murder, or he developed one during his studies. I'm not sure why. But I do think he was came into contact with at least one of the girls, and it ended with him somehow being offended, insulted, or rejected. Maybe he asked to come to one of their parties, and was told no. Maybe he asked one of them his standard creepy questions about their schedule and where they lived, and they told him to stuff it.

Whatever it was, he began stalking her/them, fantasizing about his revenge. Either he's killed before and this was an escalation murder, or he didn't go in there intending to kill four people with pretty much his bare hands. He may have kick boxed, but he's not trained in hand to hand combat that we know of, so I can't think he could expect to take on four people and have no complications. But I can sort of see him thinking he could sneak in during the wee hours, kill the one who offended him, and leave.

Only it didn't work out the way he planned for it to. Xena was still awake. And that changed everything. Right now, I think the reason he didn't see D was because he was freak out by the fact that he just killed four people and just wanted to get the heck out of there before anyone else showed up. And that's why he sped away. He was fleeing.

Thoughts?
I think yours is an interesting theory and very plausible.

My theory really is a bit silly, but I'll share it. I, too, do not think BCK has a very high opinion of himself. He had some problems growing up. Being overweight and bullied, visual snow issues (which sounds like like an absolutely horrible condition to have), plus heroin use that required a treatment center.

About the bullying part; lots (maybe most) kids are bullied growing up. It sucks but I think that's just part of life. And you know what? It very well could be that he was a huge jerk and kids were just reacting to his poor treatment of them.

I look at his life and I don't really think he was happy with where he was headed. I wonder what he thought his next steps were with a Ph.D. in criminology? It would appear that in his past he wanted to go into law enforcement and/or the Army Rangers. That obviously didn't happen and I really don't think he wanted to go into teaching.

This article stood out to me with a couple of quotes from former students, pretty much saying that after the murders, his behavior showed (more than usual) that he really didn't want to be in class. Bryan Kohberger ‘seemed preoccupied’ after Idaho murders: former student Here are some quotes:

My thoughts are that he was ending his academic career, didn't want to go into teaching, probably had no LE prospects and was too old to become an Army Ranger, plus no girlfriend or one on the horizon.

He needed to start planning his next steps in life, so he decided on murder (I know, this sound silly, but hear me out). I agree he likely had an unhealthy fascination with death and murder and really wanted to just see what it felt like to commit this crime. He probably didn't really want to get caught, per se, but on the other hand I don't think he really cared if he did, either.

I believe he finally got serious about it and really started his planning back in May 2022 when he went onto Reddit surveying former criminals about their crimes. The next couple of months I think he began meticulously planning the future crime (the weapon he would use, what he would wear, etc.).

I assume he arrived at WSU in August shortly before the fall semester started. We know from cell phone pings that as early as a few weeks after his arrival in WA he started looking for a place to target (the 1122 King Rd. home). I was always puzzled why LE said they didn't know if the house was "targeted" or if one of the victims were. Now, I have no doubt that it was the house.

I do not think he knew any of the victims or that something they did could have finally pushed him over the edge. He has overcome a lot in his life and made some decisions that have changed his life for the better. He chose to start boxing, became a vegan and lost a lot of weight. He became a heroin user (perhaps because the visual snow episodes had him so depressed that he turned to drug use). He then chose to clean up and went to rehab. After all of that, he then went on, impressively, to higher education.

As he made all those deliberate choices, I think this crime was just another one of those choices. Maybe he was at the end of his rope, felt like he had no good future prospects, and actually didn't mind the idea of prison, where the rest of his life would be decided for him.

MOO, silly as it is.

Yet he made so many mistakes!

Despite taking classes about digital forensics etc, he brought his phone to the scene (lol) and turned it off and on shortly before and after the crimes, pinging within the vicinity of the crime scene.

That's what confounds me the most. He made mistakes he never should have made. He made mistakes he knew better than to make.
The defense team is going to use this to their advantage...

Where is the empathy for this tragic situation. We can not accuse people by casting them as devils. I see it more of a mentally unstable young man with a less mature perspective of himself. I see that he was teased and this was more of the same to the reported teasing he received in highschool "get away creep". He has seemed to retain his awkward behavior and remain persistent in being able to more forward for himself. Of course with the demons of his past on his shoulder egging him on to seek revenge the next time the situation fits. It becomes a negatively associated strength as he may seek solutions over time in his consciousness. He then, finally acts out.

Empathy for the torture the child he was was exposed to. It does not excuse his behavior but relates to the tragedy to
With all due respect, this is much more complicated than having received unkind treatment during his school years. It’s pretty heinous to kill for strangers in cold blood. I have a 34-year-old daughter with multiple mental health diagnosis. She had very unhappy high school years but in no way has this combination of unstable mental health and unhappy school years put her on a path of violence. She is very kind and loving.

Was it confirmed X was actually the one that ordered Door Dash from her own account? Or did SOMEONE else order it for her? - not asking if she received it. Asking if SHE is the one that has been verified as being the one that pushed the order on her account to order it.

The report clearly indicates that the Door Dash driver was interviewed and the roommates statement seems to support the idea that she had ordered food.

I would assume that if LE was capable enough to find DNA, they were capable enough to ensure she ordered her own food but time may show otherwise but I think not.
