Isn't there a law that a convict cannot earn money from a book written about their crime?

Nobody would publish it anyway.
I believe there would be a bidding war on rights to tell this story..

One thing I'm curious about from the affidavit is the claim that he made several trips near the kill house from June through November. But, they were all made late at night or early morning. Why?

And, did he make those trips during summer months when the students weren't in school?

Maybe that's why LE said he might have targeted the "residence." Maybe he drove through in the wee hours and found the lights on in that house. Repeatedly.
Affadavit doesn’t specifically say when the trips were. Just says from June which I believe is the furthest back they went for the subpoena. Trips could have begun in September but it would still be fair to say from June.

Here's a map with Moscow being where all the pins are. You can see Blaine and Johnson, and they are both in the vicinity mentioned in the PCA. Not sure what to make of it.

Note: Pullman for cut off, but you can partially see it in the top left corner.

I found it! I searched for Blaine ID and the zip code 83843 and it came up:

I don't think BK's vegan diet makes it implausible for him to have a leather sheath. If the "visual snow" forum postings are really him, it sounds like his strict diet stemmed from an attempt to manage his symptoms. He wasn't an "ethical vegan".

If I’m not mistaken, isn’t the knife his father’s? I might be drawing that out of thin air but I believe his dad was a former marine and perhaps he passed it down to him. I know the PCA mentioned the Marines emblem on the sheath.

That possibility also goes along with my theory that the DNA found was there far prior to that night. He would’ve had to have hold this weapon, possibly practice, etc. I could imagine him aimlessly reading or thinking and just clicking the button-snap back and forth. Hell he might’ve even done so in the car before going in.

Another thing that I’m curious about is whether his DNA or his father’s DNA was found on the button-snap? I was confused by that in the affidavit given them using genetic genealogy to match the DNA from weapon sheath to the DNA recovered from the trash at his parent’s house. This worries me as a source of wiggle room for the defense to present. Not that they would say it was the dad if it was found to be his DNA but I just worry if they can’t definitively tie BK’s DNA to the scene. The PCA’s language just tripped me up as it says, “At least 99.9998 percent of the male population would be expected to be excluded from the possibility of being the suspect's biological father.” Or could that just simply be explained as they used the trash recovered to gather BK’s dad’s DNA And that then matched to a certain degree as being the father of the suspect whose DNA was on the sheath? Hopefully that makes sense. If anyone can clear this up for me that would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know—we haven’t heard anything to hint at the origin of the knife.

It’s certain that his DNA, not his father’s, was found on the sheath. Your theory is right—they checked the trash, picked up DNA, evidently his father’s, on something, and found that it was extremely likely that the DNA on the sheath was from a very close relative to that. That gave them full confidence to go for the arrest warrant.

MOO

there's bullying & then there's bullying
can't imagine anybody managed to escaped being teased as a child but not all of those would say it crossed the line into category of abuse

{ SNIPPED BY ME FOR FOCUS }
I agree with you. What we've all read about him being teased, in my mind, absolutely does NOT even come close to abuse, <modsnip> Big deal that someone called him a "weirdo." Hell, he probably was being one. Some news stories have said girls threw things at him. Definitely not OK, but maybe he was acting strange and that was the only way they could forcibly get their message across to BK to back off! I had a boy in junior high school take my homework and smear paint all over it, ruining it. So I threw dirty water in his face. It happens!

I certainly don't want to look at him, I wish the media would show his face less often.

I'd rather refer to him as BK than Bryan. Bryan is personal, familiar. BK is like a tag so on here we know what/who we're referring to. Otherwise I would refer to him by last name only, except then we couldn't distinguish him from other mbrs of his family. MOO
How about DK? Defending Kohberger or whatever his last name is.

Sadly, I believe there would be a bidding war on rights to tell this story..

'Everyone in America, it seems, has avidly followed this story. I don't want to sound cold-blooded, but the book and the movie based on this gruesome crime could be the biggest box office success in decades.

'Our budget would be astronomical, probably the highest ever paid for such a story-to-film – tens of millions of dollars, conceivably much, much more if you consider world rights.

'And what makes this project even more exciting is the murder suspect. I look at his photo and I get goose bumps, and what comes to my mind is that frightening character in The Silence of the Lambs – Dr. Hannibal Lecter,' he said, referring to the fictitious serial killer, played on screen by Anthony Hopkins.

'We are already planning to send a couple of veteran production scouts to Idaho to make contacts, and after the suspect was arrested, we've had a couple of top-level meetings to start mapping out the project. It's still early.

'For just the insider rights, we're talking a payout of at least $25million, probably more. And we foresee a huge box office once the film's in theaters, and streaming.

Most states today have free k-12 virtual, at home school, which is an excellent solution for bullied kids. All
curriculum is free. My Grandson did this and thrived.

I think that would require a parent to be home, wouldn't it? I don't think I've heard what BK's parents did for work, or if they both had jobs. Plus, a parent would have to know their child was being bullied. Some children won't tell because they're ashamed.

This is horrible, the families need to immediately file civil lawsuits.

So sorry, That Was rude of me. Won't happen again. The temporarily sealed order is for a search warrant for BK's university, student housing apartment. It sure sounds like there's still some kind of LE investigation still going on, even tho he's been arrested-idk. Thanks for being so nice.
No problem. I know they have searched those locations , would love love to know what they have found. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if he'll write a book about it.
This is the first time I wish a killer would write a book actually.
But only if it’s about explaining why he did it, his mental health from a young age, why he did drugs, how he felt empty, his snow vision syndrom (never heard about it before), the meds he took and how it did help or not, therapy, why it seems he kind of snapped around high school, etc.
Not for the show, but to help everyone, and mental health specialists, understand how we could do better, as a society, to help and stop failing on so many people dealing with mental health disorders. (could that crime have been preventable ? How so ? etc.)
I mean if it could help prevent another young troubled person ending doing the same… ruining so many peoples’ lives and his own.

(I’m sorry if Idon’t make sense, english is not my first langage and I’m kind of emotional writing that, like this whole thing makes me so sad for everyone involved. What a waste all around :( )

<modsnip> I don't view a 1-1 spat involving water & paint, such as you described as bullying. That's a little fight & you gave as good as you got and it sounds like it ended there. ofc that kind of thing happens.

I used to know a bloke socially - he must've been mid 30s - who'd been badly bullied at school and recall him saying that it had affected his whole life. I can't even remember his name but I recall how he behaved. ( I didn't know this bloke at school but iirc he had experienced it at both schools. The effects of the first, attracted more bullying into his high school)

I drove the Google streetview along Indian Hills Dr., and right before the start of the 700 block, here's the view:

That building and parking lot you see below is actually the Moscow Police station. Wonder if the capture of BK's car came from there? Maybe too far away?
