Man gets life in Denver nightclub slaying case
Monge got separated from her friends and left the nightclub, wandering the streets of downtown Denver. Investigators had surveillance footage of her walking into the lobby of a hotel, near where she met Forbes and another man.

The two tried to help get her a car home and she eventually got into Forbes' van. The other man was dropped off at home, and Forbes told investigators he sexually assaulted Monge when she passed out from drinking. An altercation happened when she regained consciousness in the van and Forbes strangled her, Morrissey said.

Ugh. I guess the only thing I am kind of at "peace" about this is that Forbes admitted to it and pled guilty. Bless Tony and Maria. I hope their healing can start from this day forward.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Forbes will forego the death penalty but will be sentenced to life in prison without parole. As the judge read the plea agreement, Forbes was sobbing in his chair.

"Travis - why did you do this? What did my girl do to you for you to do this to her? You messed with the wrong person. The demons will haunt you for the rest of your life," Monge's aunt said in court on Monday.

"I want my voice to ring in his ears for the rest of his life," Marylin Lee, another aunt, said.

Forbes was visibly shaken in court while Monge's family spoke one by one.

Travis Forbes pleads guilty to attempted murder, tells victim "deep down, I am evil"

After Travis Eugene Forbes nearly killed her, Lydia Tillman communicated to him something unexpected.
"Travis Forbes, you caused me no harm," Willy Tillman said, reading a statement his daughter wrote. The 30-year-old woman stood next to him at the lectern in front of District Judge Thomas French, her father's arm around her shoulders as he read the words she could not say. Not since she suffered brain damage and a stroke that left her unable to speak.

"My spirit, my soul and my mind remain untouched. May you find peace in this life," she said.

In his confession to police, Travis Forbes says he worked an entire shift delivering baked goods around the metro area with Kenia Monge’s body stuffed inside a cooler in the back of his van.


He pulled over at Alamo Placita Park on 3rd and Emerson and raped Kenia while she was still unconscious.

“The first sexual assault was the beginning of the end,” Lee told us.

Forbes told police he decided to rape her a second time, but she woke up and started to struggle. That’s when he says he got angry and strangled her, according to Lee.

Forbes sat next to Monge’s lifeless body for 30 minutes, and then stuffed her into a large cooler he kept in the back if his van.

That day, Forbes went to work at Deby’s Bakery in Aurora and delivered baked goods with Kenia’s body still in the back.

“It makes me sick,” Lee said. “It makes anyone sick.”

At about 7:22 p.m. on April 1, Forbes says he returned to the bakery and sent a text message to Kenia’s phone asking if she got home alright in an effort to construct an alibi.

Then, he dragged the cooler inside the bakery and put it in a freezer.

Oh my! I'm not trying to blame the victim, but I sure do hope they use this story as a warning to other girls/women that decide to take rides from strangers! Hope what I am saying makes sense.

Kerry Humphrey, Forbes' ex-girlfriend, was arrested on Oct. 5, accused of lying to police during the investigation. She is now out on bond.

According to Denver jail records, Humphrey was arrested on the Auraria Campus in Denver for investigation of attempting to influence a public servant.

Formal charges are expected to be filed next week, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office said.

His cheek got swabbed, and then he was asked to allow an officer to get 25 hair samples from his head. At this point, Forbes walks away from the camera's vantage point, but is still heard from the side of the room.
"Did you find her?" asked Forbes. "Why would you be taking my DNA? You found a girl."
"What?" asked the detective.
"You found a girl and there's some s***. There's probably, well, obviously DNA," said Forbes.

Boy, that's a really telling interaction right there. "A girl?" How many girls are there, Travis?

We have been dealing with alot of different things since we put Kenia to rest, I honestly thought that things would get better and we would be better able to focus on the future and we have found that this is not gonna get easy anytime soon, I think that Maria is worse off than anyone else, Kim is a close second, I myself could be a close second but I'm to hard headed to know, reality kicked me in the face last weekend when I had that wreck, my mind is so busy with alot of stuff still and I have not learned how to compartmentalize and put in order my priorities, it will come but it will take alot of work on my part.
