Brandon Scott Lavergne - Guilty Plea and LWOP

This breaks my heart for BSL. He's done evil things granted but the pain he must have felt from this was pretty awful.
Our child is adopted. At one point this child went through a pretty difficult time and was sent to a private school for teens with problems. My husband and I went there for family weekend. Turned out that 85% of the kids going through the school had been adopted. It was explained to us that it was not because of anything we did or because there was something wrong with our children. No matter how much love these children are shown, they still feel abandoned by their birth parents, especially their birth mothers. There was some thought at one point that our child may have borderline personality disorder. As I posted somewhere back, I'm an insatiable reader and when presented with a problem, I'm like the dog with the bone- I'll dig until I find the answers. As I researched, I found Dr. Blaise A. Aguirre, a psychiatrist who deals exclusively with adolescents and BPD. Again a fairly large percentage of adopted children present with BPD not because of the adoption but because of the abandonment issue. Teenagers as we know go through a roller coaster of emotions-sometimes on an hourly basis. It's all about finding out who we are and what our place is in the world. It makes me sad for BSL that on top of all the adolescent confusion, he felt abandoned by his birth mother already and then she rejected him. Sounds to me like she might have issues. Did she blame him for her breakup with the married lover?
For us, the story turned out happily. Our child does not have BPD, has finished high school, and is ready to begin college. It was a long road that love, support, and God got us through.
Again, I am not excusing anything BSL did. There is so much help out there for people who want it. It's a choice as are most things in life.

Someone posted last night a single statement: "Evil does not begin in a void." I did not understand the context they were posting in and so scrolled on by.

But the words themselves have come back to my mind now: "Evil does not begin in a void." IMO, sometimes it does -- in the void where a feeling of being loved and wanted, maybe even going back to before birth, should be.

I can't help thinking, in view of all we now know of BSL's past, that his house fire last year (around July 2011), is very suspicious. Can anyone please find more details about this? I feel it is very important.

I wish I could find out more about it, and wonder if this was a case of arson, for the purpose of covering up yet another murder. Pure speculation of course. JMO :twocents:

I will say something about guns that might be against what some of us here believe. I have never owned a gun, nor do I plan to. It seems like people are exercising their rights to own a firearm, and some of the firearms are of ridiculous proportions. Does it make one feel safer? Knowing that you always have to sleep with one eye open with a finger on the trigger if someone breaks into your house? Because most of the times, it's the criminals with the guns. The fact that everyone in Switzerland must own a firearm is something I didn't know and they are my neighbors to the south and I work with many Swiss people. Had no idea. But at any rate. I think it's more of a societal problem that a 'yeah, I'm a proud American and want to exercise my second amendment rights blah blah blah' (even though when it comes to a gun battle with a bad guy, tough guy will likely lose). Why not fix the problem about WHY we feel obligated to carry a firearm than to fight for the right to defend ourselves against those that shouldn't even have them? Maybe no one will agree with me and that's okay but even Websleuths is a direct result of societal problems. (But, yes I love you all and glad to be here!)

Yes it does makes me feel safer. I don't have to sleep with one eye open and one finger on the trigger. I know I have a gun in the nightstand and know how to use it if needed. Leads to sound sleeping. It would be rare for me to ever need it. There is crime everywhere yes, but in America it is relatively low. But I'm prepared for it if it ever comes my way. I feel it's best to be prepared. I refuse to be a victim if someone breaks into my house and I have to do what they say. No. I'm going to shoot them and end that threat to my life. It's my right. And this makes me sleep better at night, it does not make me sleep with one eye open at the ready. If I was helpless to an intruder then that's when I'd have restless sleep.

But at any rate. I think it's more of a societal problem that a 'yeah, I'm a proud American and want to exercise my second amendment rights blah blah blah'

What exactly are you trying to say? It is our second amendment rights. Most Americans exercise their 2nd amendments rights and never have to use them in defense. As a society, we are pretty safe compared to most countries. I don't know what kind of scewed idea you have of us. Every country has criminals. It's just the way it is. We are luckily able to defend ourselves against them. Also alot of Americas believe shooting is sport and a past time, not just for self defense. So 2nd Amendment rights is definitely what it is.

Why not fix the problem about WHY we feel obligated to carry a firearm than to fight for the right to defend ourselves against those that shouldn't even have them?

Most people in America do not even own a firearm, and even fewer carry one. Very few have their concealed carry license. I would not say that we feel obligated to carry a firearm. It's a choice to not become a victim. And it's not just to fight back other criminals that have firearms. There are lots of criminals that don't have firearms. For example I am a petite woman and no match for a man of BSL's size. If he decided to rape me even without any weapon he may well succeed just do to greater strength. This is why I carry. However, the statistics of that happening to me is pretty low. It may be possible you have the ideal view of life of most people that like strict gun laws. It's not possible for us to get guns out of criminals hands. If we banned all guns from America, they could just go to Mexico. The only people it would hurt is the law abiding citizens. And yes we should fix the mental issues of criminals so that there aren't murders, rapists, burglars, etc but c'mon, get real. That's impossible. There have been criminals since the beginning of time and no matter what you do there will still be. You make them seem like this is just a US problem. I have German friends, and I know this happens there too.

I wondered if BSL's bio sister might better remember April 26, 2010 and whether BSL was around, since the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Explosion and Disaster happened on April 20, 2010?

That might give her a reference point. I wondered if BSL might have been around, since he would likely have been off work after that oil spill?

This turned out to be a pretty good tip and seems to have jarred some memories from both BN and her Husband. They are interested in talking to Mac Sanford about Ali.
Great tip sleuthers

Hi all:
There are several threads scattered throughout the entire forum that discuss and debate the pros and cons of gun control.
This is not the correct forum for in depth discussion on that topic.
thanks.

I am curious too, but I can't find much.

"The house burned down about a year ago, said neighbor R.G. Harrison, and was later replaced with a mobile home. Harrison said after the house burned, Lavergne visited him and asked if he had seen anything suspicious. That was one of the few times the two neighbors spoke, Harrison said. “There was something funny about him,” Harrison said. “He didn’t really mingle. He didn’t talk, and I’d talk to his father when he lived there.” Busby said Lavergne was"

Yes....I do not believe for one second he "let" her stab him again after the first altercation. IMO he shot her after she stabbed him the 1st time... there was no 2nd time she got the knife.
He had the gun for a reason... who leaves a knife laying around to lets someone stab ya on two different occsasions??
He never "thought" she was dead he dad gum KNEW it! The exact moment.
No need to check a pulse.
jmo
REALLY!!! he gave TMI...
She attacked him...WHERE IS THE STRIKETHROUGH???(no he attacked her... she opened up a can o whoop a$$)
then he killed her and ran home...
moo
I'm with you on this one. The little pu@&y thought he would have his way with her. Little did he know he was messing with a lioness. It took all he had to save his own butt; trying desperately to fend off a sharp knife. Putting his hand up like the woos he is,:rocker: trying to save himself; getting his finger almost cut off. He had to pull his gun to get her off of him. Go Mickey! If only she could have "Lorena'd this dude. For sure he'd never sexually assault another.

Another thank you to both you and Garryb for your information, insights, and knowledge. Your comment above gave me the shivers when I read it. . .

I didn't personally know either Mickey or Ali but know people that did.

Prayers to you and your family.

wow. i never knew they did stuff like this! i love going to rodeos, but i always feel bad when there is a cowboy that gets hurt. wouldn't have that problem with this!! LOL.

ok finished the whole video and i've decided i have to go see this one day. i've fallen in love with LA with as much as i've learned about it the past 3 months and i need to visit!

Be sure to take a swamp tour. There's an awesome one near Gonzales off I-10. The woman walks around with those alligators as if they are bunnies. All the while they are hissing. The boat ride provides beer and an absolute breathtaking scenery and much more. It's beautiful and amazing.

Try Cajun food only in Cajun country, Acadiana that is, not NOLA. But do eat everything else in NOLA!!! Oh and take the trolley down St. Charles. Afterwards check out Magazine Street and eat at the Creole Creamery off Pyrtania.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread on which to post this, admin may feel free to move or delete. I'm usually a lurker and wanted to get this off my chest. after reading through many of Mickey's threads on here my own hypothesis was that she had got abducted after he rammed into her bike...he had the intention of raping her but since she stabbed him a lot, he ended up killing her in self defense before he got the chance to sexually assault her. i never thought for a second that he raped her like he has done before...but that he wanted to. she is my personal hero for fighting so hard and leaving her mark on him. i am really sorry if this offends anyone. Anywho, I am glad that he at least gave some closure to her family, since we ALL know that many other people do these kinds of things yet never fess up to them. My heart goes out to the families of every victim unfortunate enough to come into contact with this awful person. I hope that if there are other victims we are not privy to, that they come to light as well, to bring even more families closure.

edit: my hypothesis was correct thanks to all the wonderful sleuths on this site.

LOL...Excuse the OT, but a trip with beer and alligators just made me laugh out loud. Talk about trouble waiting to happen...I can see me now, after a few beers..."here gator, gator."

OT... I have followed lots of cases here, and for the first timers... This case is truly rare... finding the perp, locating the victim, seeing justice prevail, finding out how it all unfolded, learning inside scoop from the insiders, etc... Most cases have so many more questions than answers. This is an extremely fascinating, touching, unusual case... Haven't seen one like it before and probably won't ever again... I'm so glad I chose to follow it, and I think you all are a really cool, determined, selfless, somewhat crazy , bunch...

All jmo.

:goodpost: I love it...especially the somewhat crazy bunch part!!

GarryB I would also like to know more about his relationships in Austin. I asked earlier, but I can't find my question, either I didn't post it right, or it was removed. IDK. I am curious how he would meet anyone from Austin. Was he in that relationship back in 2010? Is that person still around?

The issue is to make sure that no one beside BSL is investigated. IOW no sleuthing of potential gf's or anything like that.
Do not post any personal or private information about peripheral players.

hth.

ETA: please do not even discuss anything specific to his children- that goes without saying I hope.

okay I am seeing all kinds of references to gf's and the kids.

DO NOT POST ANYTHING RELATED TO POTENTIAL GIRLFRIENDS. DON'T LINK TO THEM OR SLEUTH THEM IN ANY WAY.
Thank you.

OR, in the short time while he went around the truck, she was able to get to her backpack, and had her own blade.

Yes, she was injured, but maybe she stayed calm enough and played possum and had enough strength- in a life or death situation - to do this.
It's finally forming in my head - the jumping up part - that I think it went down when he got out of the truck in the cane field. She was alone in the truck for that short time.

My opinion only.

That makes more sense to me. In the statement he gave BSL said she stabbed him in the stomach. She would have been able to do this with the element of surprise if he was opening the door. Then he must have shot her and the bullet casing was in the truck. No wonder he decided to burn that truck, huh?:jail:

A family member of mine fell ill, so I've been playing catch-up with the threads -- usually a few days behind -- over the past few weeks. I googled Mickey's name every other day or so to keep up with the media regarding the case.

When I googled her name yesterday I was expecting to read about an upcoming trial date. Instead, I learned that BSL pled out. Thank goodness for that, for the uncertainty and time involved with a trial would only prolong the pain for Mickey's family, not to mention that carrying on with a not-guilty plea just seemed to me like such a slap in the face of all that is true and good in this world. In my opinion, the plea deal was the very least he could do if he had any shred of decency left in his soul.

I cried when I read about Mickey fighting back. I wish we all could have been there to help her. What a brave, strong, beautiful young woman! It may be wrong of me to think this, I don't know, but I'm glad she hurt him, I'm glad she put up such a good fight! But the damn senselessness of it all makes my heart ache and makes me angry. I have a 9 year old daughter and I'm already teaching her about strangers and self defense... but why should women have to live like this, like prey animals??

I have a lot of questions, starting with whether or not BSL is linked to any other crime involving any missing young women from Texas to Louisiana. It seems to me that he likely could be. One detail that stands out to me is that he apparently drove around all night calling escort services? I'll reckon that he has probably abused, beaten or raped escorts or prostitutes before. It is not an uncommon occurrence and it seems he has serious anger and sexual issues; I just realized that even if he wanted to, he wouldn't be able to meet women at a bar or a concert if LA is like OR, because here sex offenders aren't allowed to go into bars. Is this what led to him calling escorts (why wasn't he able to connect with any??) and then finally deciding to snatch a woman off the streets? What can the people and agencies in charge of supervising sex offenders do to prevent this sort of thing from happening again? And, I guess, it makes me question what to do with sex offenders at all, in terms of them wanting to have a relationship, even just a sexual one. No woman in her right mind would want to have a relationship with a sex offender. Does this mean that even after the so-called rehabilitation they receive in prison, that they are always a predator, whether by inclination or by circumstance? If so, what impact does this have on recidivism and future crimes?

RIP Mickey. Thank you for fighting hard. It was not in vain.
