A later start today in the murder trial of Bampumim Teixeira. Yesterday was all about testing the evidence. Here’s a recap:
(Via 7News Boston) #7news
On the now is Julie James. She tests DNA for @bostonpolice crime lab and was assigned to examine evidence from the murder scene. She began testimony late yesterday.
Prosecutor John Pappas has put up posters of things that were tested for DNA. James says on a pair of boots there is Lina Bolanos’ & Bampumim Teixeira’s DNA. On a shirt and knife are DNA from Richard Field.
As James testifies she explains percentages of certainty that the DNA belongs to the victims and suspect. She repeatedly says “a tiny fraction of the population” could have that combination of DNA.
James says on the neck of a mask, she found Fields DNA. A satin eye covering had Fields DNA and Bolanos’ on the strap.
James explains that she could not come to a conclusion on who the DNA belonged to on the inside of the mask.
James says after testing wire cutters, she found DNA from both Field & Bolanos. On a pair of men’s dress shoes, she found Field’s DNA.
James says testing on a right glove found Teixeira’s DNA. Finger nail clipping from both victims were also examined.
The prosecutor is done questioning James. Defense attorney Steve Sack begins cross examination pointing to a neon yellow shirt.
As Sack puts up posters of tested evidence, he asks Teixeira if he’s able to see. Teixeira answers “yes”. This is the first time we’ve heard Teixeira’s voice in this trial.
Sack points to the fact that evidence had multiple stains but only certain stains were tested, not all.
Sack asks James if she ever received swabs from the handles of the folding knife, kitchen knife and BB gun. She’s answers “no I did not”
