Back on the stand this morning is criminologist Kathryne Hall. She tested blood and dna from the murder scene.

Prosecutor shows Hall a Lysol bottle that she says was tested for fingerprints and a laundry detergent bottle as well.

Also shown to jurors: surface cleaner bottle and soap bottle collected from the murder scene.

Hall says she collected samples from reddish brown stains found on the penthouse’s floor, tub, wall in bathroom, drawers, closets, door and door handle.

She also says she collected hair fibers on the floor in the bedroom and from a drawstring bag. She says the ones in the bag were darker in color.

Hall is shown a folding knife. She says she collected reddish brown samples and hair on it to be tested for DNA.

Hall looks at wire cutters and says she took samples of hairs, fibers and 3 reddish brown stains to test for the presence of blood.

Hall is shown black draw string bag and it’s contents. She tells jurors inside was: silver duct tape, personal lubricant, satin sleep mask, chapstick and a faux mustache.

3 credit cards were also found in the bag. They are put up on a projector. Hall says two belonged to Lina Bolanos and one to Richard Field.

Hall says she tested a satin mask and it came back positive for blood. She tested two pairs of handcuffs and described them as “slippery”.

Teixeira is taking notes during Hall’s testimony. She holds up kitchen scissors and says it was found in the bag later. She says it was tested and came back negative for blood.

Jason Field, Dr. Richard Field’s brother has just entered the courtroom. He has been here every day since the trial began.

Hall now holds up black gloves that were tested. She says they had a strong odor and tested positive for blood.

The prosecutor gives Hall a blue/green scrub style shirt. She says it had a strong odor of cleaning solutions and tested positive for blood.

Hall tested brown men’s dress shoes. She also holds up a men’s navy blue sport jacket and said it had an oily residue on it. Family members are sniffling and wiping tears in front row.

Prosecutor shows defense attorney next pieces of evidence he plans to introduce. It appears to be woman’s clothing. Teixeira looks and shows no emotion.

Hall is talking about woman’s jeans says they tested positive for blood and heavily soiled. She moves onto woman’s tank top and underwear.

Next evidence shown are black women’s ankle boots and a sports bra. Hall says both tested positive for blood.

Lina Bolanos’ godmother is in the front row and crying.

Hall is shown a woman’s black sweater. Hall says when she initially got it, the sweater had duct tape wrapped around sleeve cuffs and some buttons were missing.

After a brief break, Hall is on the stand for cross examination by defense attorney Steve Sack

Sack: “you didn’t write a report about the police shooting?” Hall: “correct.” Sack: “did anybody?” Hall: “no report was written.”

Sack points to analysis of two boots and asks if the analysis of each one was switched with the other. Hall agrees. Sack: “did you mark there’s a mistake?” Hall says she wrote about the mix-up.

Sack says Hall used a “sexual assault collection kit” when examining the items. He asks “that doesn’t mean there was a sexual assault, right?” Hall: “that’s right.”

Then Hall is asked about the stains on the boots, Teixeira shakes his head.

Hall previously testified she examined black cargo pants with holes in them. Sack says they belonged to Teixeira. He asks Hall “are the holes the size of gunshot holes?” She answers “I’m not sure.”

Sack goes back to sex assault kit. Intimate parts of Bolanos body were tested. Hall tells Sack none tested positive for sexual interaction.

Sack asks if buttons (that Hall marked in photos which resembled ones from Bolanos’ blouse) where ever collected. Hall: “no”. Sack: “do you know where they are today?” Hall: “I do not.”

Sack sits down. Teixeira nods at him.

Prosecutor John Pappas asks Hall if she saw the similar looking buttons on the scene, she answers; “I never saw it at penthouse A.”

The prosecution has called more than 20 witnesses at the point. The next is Emily Runt a criminalist for the @bostonpolice

Runt explains she was not at the crime scene but was given evidence to examine. She concentrated on the duct tape.

Ruby says she was given three tape samples on June 16, 2017 ... November 28, 2017 and July 9, 2018. She says two samples could have come from same source, one did not.

Sack is cross examining Runt. He says the duct tape is from Staples. Runt agrees. Sack asks “do you know how many duct tape rolls are manufactured at Staples?” She says she does not.

Sack asks Runt “you inquired about testing hairs found in Dr. Fields hand?” Runt says yes. Sack asks “Did you?” She says no.

Runt steps down. Apologies if I referred to her in tweets as Ruby. My phone keeps autocorrecting it...

Next witness is another criminalist. Her name is Amanda Armstrong and she works in a @bostonpolice unit that tests and identifies fingerprints.

Armstrong says she compares fingerprints recovered on items to specific people.

Armstrong says they first do a visible exam then can put chemicals on the object that will make the prints visible.

Armstrong says she went to the crime scene on Saturday, May 6, 2017 to process items there.

Armstrong confirmed she went into all the penthouse rooms and tested an iPad, nightstand, closet doors and window seat area.

Armstrong says she processed prints with powder & compared the evidence in December.

Armstrong confirms testing a floor cleaner bottle, Lysol bottle and laundry bottle and none of them had prints

Okay - off to sleep for me - I'll catch the other tweets when I get back here in the morning! :)

Armstrong says wearing gloves could prevent someone from leaving prints. No prints were found on knives, a bbgun, wirecutters and scissors.

Armstrong says one print was discovered on duct tape.

Armstrong says that one print was of “no value”. It didn’t have enough description to identify it.

On December 6, 2017 Armstrong got duct tape to process and says she found no prints.

Some prints Armstrong could test. She said it matched a Mr. Zyis (sp?). Armstrong says she was given prints from Zyis & Teixeira to compare to

Sack now cross examining Armstrong. Asks if she was given prints of Dr. Field or Dr. Bolanos to compare. She says no.

A later start today in the murder trial of Bampumim Teixeira. Yesterday was all about testing the evidence. Here’s a recap:
(Via 7News Boston) #7news

On the now is Julie James. She tests DNA for @bostonpolice crime lab and was assigned to examine evidence from the murder scene. She began testimony late yesterday.

Prosecutor John Pappas has put up posters of things that were tested for DNA. James says on a pair of boots there is Lina Bolanos’ & Bampumim Teixeira’s DNA. On a shirt and knife are DNA from Richard Field.

As James testifies she explains percentages of certainty that the DNA belongs to the victims and suspect. She repeatedly says “a tiny fraction of the population” could have that combination of DNA.

James says on the neck of a mask, she found Fields DNA. A satin eye covering had Fields DNA and Bolanos’ on the strap.

James explains that she could not come to a conclusion on who the DNA belonged to on the inside of the mask.

James says after testing wire cutters, she found DNA from both Field & Bolanos. On a pair of men’s dress shoes, she found Field’s DNA.

James says testing on a right glove found Teixeira’s DNA. Finger nail clipping from both victims were also examined.

The prosecutor is done questioning James. Defense attorney Steve Sack begins cross examination pointing to a neon yellow shirt.

As Sack puts up posters of tested evidence, he asks Teixeira if he’s able to see. Teixeira answers “yes”. This is the first time we’ve heard Teixeira’s voice in this trial.

Sack points to the fact that evidence had multiple stains but only certain stains were tested, not all.

Sack asks James if she ever received swabs from the handles of the folding knife, kitchen knife and BB gun. She’s answers “no I did not”

No redirect. James steps down. Next witness is Richard Atkinson a #Boston medical examiner.

Atkinson determines cause and manner of death. He performed autopsies on both Field and Bolanos.

Atkinson says Field was wearing scrubs, a jacket, pants with duct tape on the cuffs and was bloodied with a white substance on him when brought to ME’s office. He says Field had a stab wound to the right side of his neck.

Atkinson says Field also had several hairs stuck to his left hand.

As Atkinson describes how deeply cut Field was and his internal injuries, family members sniffle and sob

Atkinson says Field swallowed and breathed blood. He found blood in the stomach and lungs.

Atkinson says a stabbing to the carotid artery is fatal.

Atkinson says Field’s wrists had purple bruises and lines consistent with being bound or cuffed.

Atkinson says Fields cause of death was a stab wound to the neck.

Atkinson said Bolanos had two earrings in her ears and duct tape attached to her hair. He says her left hand had a ring on and her hand had blood and soap on it.

Atkinson says there was a broken necklace on Bolanos’ body. A piece was near her neck and the other part in her hair.

Judge Mitchell Kaplan stops testimony and addresses jury. He says these photos can be difficult but they can’t base decisions on sympathy.

Kaplan [I think she means Atkinson] says Bolanos had 24 total sharp force injuries around all sides of her neck.

Atkinson describes the clothing Bolanos had on and says her underwear was cut in two places.

During testimony, family members cry. The judge takes a brief break and some family members don’t come back in when testimony continues

Atkinson says the cut that hit Bolanos’ internal jugular vein contributed to her death.

As Atkinson explains all Bolanos’ sharp force injuries, Teixeira stares at diagram of wounds.

Atkinson says all the wounds caused Bolanos’ death but the cut to the jugular contributed the most.

Atkinson says Bolanos had bruise on nose, left eye, left side of her forehead and bleeding under her eyelids.

Thanks so much Niner. I hate reading he brought personal lube and her underwear were cut in 2 places????

Atkinson says Bolanos had multiple bruises to her head as well as bruises to both wrists, elbows, forearms and left shoulder. There were also bruises over her right hand knuckles.

Atkinson says injuries to Bolanos left wrist “are consistent with having been cuffed and blunt force injuries.”

Bolanos also had 2 bruises to her left knee and one on the left lower leg.

On Bolanos’ death certificate, Atkinson wrote cause of death “multiple sharp force injuries”.

Now Sack cross examines Atkinson. Sack asks did you determine times of deaths? Atkinson answers “no”. Sack asks “did you determine who died first?” Atkinson says “no”

Sack makes it clear that there were no injuries to Bolanos’ genital area and Atkinson agrees. He also asks if the medical examiner determined the cuts were from a serrated knife. Atkinson says he couldn’t tell.
