Right, but where was GP on the 26th when BL was alone in the van? Riding in the back? Or did they maybe have a camp set up across the creek by then, so she was there? Where did they camp after Jenny Lake on the 25th? Could it be Spread Creek? We don't know. She really only had one other camping area pinned in her Dyrt account for GTNP, and it was farther south.

They did indeed park in that non-parking spot on the 26th (per JS), leave on the 27th for Jackson (MP), and then come back to the exact same spot (again per JS). On the 27th Bethune video, sandals and a book where on the ground. If I assume maybe they camped at Spread Creek on the 26th (and possibly the 25th), why is it so unbelievable to think they set up their tent across the creek at the fire ring? There were no signs of them hanging out outside the van. Where was whoever had that book out going to sit to read it? Where had they cooked their dinner and eaten the night of the (maybe 25th) 26th and morning of the 27th before heading to Jackson? Why does it sound so crazy to considering they were camped across the creek like they normally camped, with tent and fire, and picked that spot because everything else was full?

It is meaningful because so many people think GP just happened to be killed or dumped next to an old fire ring and the van could not have possibly been there before she was killed. That she had to have been killed on the 27th based on this information. I'm just offering an alternative based on what I feel is also pertinent information.jmo.
I think the van was there before she was killed bc the witness tells us it was. GP could have been in the back, or off somewhere with wifi working on the vlog, etc. when the witness filmed it on the 26th. I think it was initially assumed they were gone because the Victor Idaho merchant claimed to have had the conversation with them in Victor on "the 25th or 26th." MOO We know something happened that made them turn back because they were at Merry Piglets on the 27th - and not in Yellowstone or by the West Yellowstone, MT entrance to it. So whatever was happening with them, was on-going for days, maybe even weeks. JMO It wasn't a one-off, IMO.

The reason I wonder if they camped there the 25th, too, is because of the Jenny Lake sighting. It would be close by.

Tipster talks about spotting Gabby Petito's van in Grand Teton National Park

Baker said it was 5 p.m. on Aug. 25, when she and her husband spotted Petito’s van in the Jenny Lake parking area.

“I’m sure of it,” Baker said. “It had the black ladder on the back and the two black rooftops on top, the two bars, and we made the comment that would be the perfect little camper van to go around in.”

Plus, Gabby texts her mom that day, saying "We're in Grand Teton NP" or something like that.

But I wonder if they could find a place to stay. Because they ended up delaying their trip (the one that Gabby had tried to make reservations for) in SLC, while BL goes back home.

That threw them off. Looking for campsites near Yellowstone (including GT) is a nightmare. Truly.

ENTIRELY SPECULATIVE so no links:

So about the pack...I am not sure the parents saw BL leave the house. If they did not, they may have assumed he had the backpack because it was gone. But it's possible he disposed of it earlier or it actually is in the house but they missed it. Perhaps they didn't look too hard because to them, hiking = backpack. One reason I am not sure they saw him leave is that there is no clothing description. Of course, some people don't notice clothes (I often don't unless they are unusual-- formal, strange color, mismatch with the occasion, etc.) and & maybe the Laundries just didn't notice.
.
Certainly if they were in explicit cahoots with B to help him disappear, to be on the "safe side" why not report he was wearing something he wasn't? They likely would never get caught for that even if he was found lie as he could have always changed clothes..

Anyway, why carry a big backpack for suicide? Isn't the maybe missing/maybe nonexistent gun a long gun? Maybe he wanted to be able to hide the gun when first hiking in case he ran into other hikers.
I had thought about this, too, but you articulate it way better. I think they assumed he had his pack, because it wasn't in the house, as you say, but he might have ditched it between the Tetons and home. I'm not sure his parents knew what the pack even looked like, except to say it "had a belt." Actually most packs intended for hiking have a belt. (Travel packs often have belts, too.) School book bags don't generally, but they don't go on trails, unless you're just getting into it. All this means, by any account, the Ls weren't super familiar with "his" pack.
The pack thing might be moot, anyway. He could just get a new one or buy one off Craigslist.
Great point about the clothes.

So you think a jury could believe that Gabby was left there, alive (less than a mile from help) and just wandered around until some other person killed her?

Can you provide a link for what BL was doing on the 26th? I have nothing in my timeline and don't think there's anything in the media thread, either. Or GP, for that matter.

Not even a text, as far as I know - and no verified sightings.

Why do you think they are in Spread Creek on the 25th? There are actual articles (not sure I believe them) about them being up in W. Yellowstone. But at any rate, please give us a link for the 26th if you have one, because it's a gap in what we've been discussing.

I now have less confidence in Dr. Blue, though.

Which is one reason I think it's possible they ended up in a non-parking area and camping in a non-camping location, out if view, across the creek. Even if they left for MP and came back to someone else parked in that spot, they could park anywhere off that road they could fit. Imo.

The wording in Dr B’s statement does not make it clear what days he believes it is possible for Gabby to have been alive. That can become a crucial issue at the trial. Is it possible that she was still alive on Sept 1, for example? That would mean that it is possible that BL did not do it. How reasonable is such a situation?
LE investigation is the key together with the autopsy IMO. The coroner is an elected official. The forensic specialists will be key, together with the witness video and accounts, as well as the paper (receipts) and digital footprint as far as one can be established, will tell the tale. JMO MOO

If I was to keep my kid out of thesuper max ….I would take him to north of Atlanta to the base of the App trail….give him a fist full of dollars and say….run……soooo. ….walking at the rate of 5-10 miles per day/dusk……..camping , hiding….staying parallel to the trail……avoiding people…..staying away from open fields…. (hey fbi, did he take the pup tent ?)……..that puts him around west virginia now…….he’s gonna hit vermont and go straight north…. using his compass….cross into Canada and be gone. He will steal food from cars along the way. Buy food from old people in small grocery stores with his hat and beard and legal mask. He can hunker down with mountain folks without internet. He will totally fit in with the Burlington Vermonters. I feel sorry for the next girl ( if hes guilty)

Is there any video from the Merry Piglets or more eyewitness accounts? The one couple where the lady reported it, said they noticed nothing unusual until they were leaving, sounded like they were asked to leave. Wonder what the event was, surely someone overheard/witnessed.

Apparently the local county LE called in the Marshals to assist?

Appalachian hiker mistook for Brian Laundrie by U.S. Marshals because of ear mark

"In a statement sent to Newsweek, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service said, "The USMS often supports investigations conducted by our federal, state, local, and tribal partners. In this instance, the Graham County Sheriff's Office [GCSO] in North Carolina had received a tip that the fugitive Brian Laundrie had been sighted in their jurisdiction."

"GCSO asked the USMS task force to support them in making contact with the subject. The USMS was not the lead investigative agency in this matter and was acting in support of the GCSO," the statement added."
Not local LE. The lead agency is the FBI. The lead field office is FBI Denver. I would have expected the US Marshals to become involved once he was a fugitive, but they were never mentioned, and never confirmed, until now. So I'm glad to have received this confirmation. I had been joking it was time to call in Tommy Lee Jones just so we could get this guy and put this to bed. JMO MOO

Provide him with the Ghillie suit as well. He'd likely make it.

IIRC, the owner acknowledged on the restaurant's social media page that GP and BL were there and that the restaurant had been in contact with the FBI and would say nothing further. But, if I also recall correctly, there was some links many threads ago that stated there was no video from the restaurant. Someone on here will very likely be able to remember and confirm or deny. MOO JMO

I actually did that. Had my kids printed when they were young. I hadn't thought about that. Perhaps he was printed as a child (part of the child safe initiative). MOO Good point.

I did it too for my kiddo and nieces. I keep all of the pertinent stuff along with the current year school photo in our safe. BL’s fingers would be bigger now but I assume the prints are basically the same, just bigger?

I had this same conversation with someone after the story about the van lifer who saw BL driving slowly near the spot the van was seen in without GP in sight. Someone said that if they were looking for a new spot to camp they would definitely be in the front helping search for a spot. And I offered what you just said, that maybe they had camped their their the night before and BL was going slow to relocate the spot. If so, GP could have easily been in the back getting their gear ready for setting up camp. Maybe so, maybe not.

The first article I read on the matter mentioned that LE had to use the couple’s WiFi to run the prints. JMO
I’ll go look for the article

@Jurisprudence
etaBounty Hunting for Brian Laundrie in a Land of Look-Alikes
Probably the hotel wifi....
Side note: Gosh I hated that place when I was on the AT... It all seemed so vacant, with a huge reservoir for a view. The AT shelter there has tiers. It was full that night I was there...24 people on shelves one above the other. It's called the Fontana Hilton. You have to take a shuttle to the Fontana Resort. One reason the couple might have caught attention is that there are a lot of hikers clustered right there, and they're hanging out for the night. They have time on their hands, since darkness comes early. Plenty of time to discuss what they might have seen. Hikers would also likely to be going to the Resort to buy alcohol.
But this is a really good sign if hikers are conferrin,g and the marshals are willing to listen.

And after Jenny Lake is, when I expect, they made their way to Victor, Idaho. MOO Something happened and they turned around. MOO
