PA PA - Mary Ann Bagenstose, 25, West Willow, 5 June 1984

I had a few moments today to take a look at Google Maps. The two wooded areas along Goods Run, the Shiprock Woods Nature Preserve and the wooded area between Radcliff Road and 272 all should be the focus of a forensic ground search after a good hard frost to kill the green vegetation. They are all areas of opportunity to hide remains.

It blows my mind that a search has yet to be done specifically in the Park Reserve Area.

  • Missing From: West Willow, Pennsylvania
  • Classification: Endangered Missing
  • Sex: Female
  • Race: White
  • Date of Birth: 09/28/1958 (61)
  • Age: 25 years old
  • Height and Weight: 5'5, 125 pounds
  • Clothing/Jewelry Description: A black t-shirt, blue jeans and brown sandals.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female. Blonde hair. Mary limps slightly and has to wear a lift in one shoe due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
Details of Disappearance
Mary was last seen at her home on west Willow Street in West Willow, Pennsylvania on June 5, 1984. Her estranged husband, Jere, went to pick her up to look at a car she was thinking of buying, but when he arrived Mary wasn't ready to go yet; she was still putting her makeup on. Her husband took their two-year-old son to nearby Long's Park and when they returned in the early afternoon, she was gone.

Jere said he found a note on the kitchen table from Mary, saying the car wouldn't start and she was going to walk to a local Turkey Hill Minit Market, three-quarters of a mile away. Clerks at the store, who knew her because she visited frequently, don't remember seeing her there that day, and Jere threw out the note before anyone else saw it. She has never been heard from again. None of her personal belongings disappeared with her.

Mary and Jere were in the process of a divorce in 1984 and Jere was living with his parents on Edgehill Drive, but he remained in regular contact with Mary. She disappeared the day before a custody hearing over their child. Foul play is suspected in her case, as it's uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning.

from 1990 claims that Jere was living in the house. He remarried in 1991 to Theresa Whitman. In a 2007 obituary for Jere's mother Miriam it lists Jere and Theresa as preceding her in death and they were from Willow Street. Still living in the home he shared with Mary Ann. I also agree with a previous comment that the note that Mary Ann supposedly left the Jere threw out should have easily been found in the trash. It is quite suspicious.

Sad that someone got away with murder. This case has always bothered me. Heartbreaking for Mary Ann’s mother.

So she vanishes a day before a custody hearing and is last seen by her estranged ex, who is also the father of said child? And all we have to go on is his bizarre story which no one can verify? There are way too many cases like this.

Bumping for Mary. She is not forgotten <3

On Tuesday, several State Police vehicles were spotted outside the residence, located at 167 West Willow Road. A spokesperson confirmed their presence there was part of an investigation, but would provide no further details.

Bagenstose, who was 26 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen by her estranged husband, Jere Bagenstose, on the morning she disappeared, the missing persons cold case website the Charley Project said.

Jere Bagenstose told police he visited the home frequently despite their estrangement. He was living with his parents at the time of Mary Ann Bagenstose's disappearance, the Charley Project said.

On the morning of Mary Ann Bagenstose's disappearance, Jere Bagenstose said he was there to take her and the couple's 2-year-old son to look at a new car.

When he arrived, Jere Bagenstose told police, Mary Ann Bagenstose was not yet ready to leave, so he took their son to Long's Park to feed ducks.

When he returned later that day, he said, he found a note from Mary Ann Bagenstose stating she was walking to a nearby Turkey Hill store after discovering her car wouldn't start.

The Turkey Hill is located roughly a mile from the home.
Clerks at the store, who knew her because she visited frequently, don't remember seeing her there that day, and Jere Bagenstose later told police he threw out the note, which was never recovered, according to the Charley Project.

None of Mary Ann Bagenstose's personal belongings disappeared with her, and her family said it would be extremely out of character for her to leave without her son or without informing relatives, the Charley Project said.

Her mother, Geraldine Engonforo, reported her missing two days later, police said.

Husband charged with homicide in Pennsylvania cold-case of estranged wife who disappeared 38 years ago

Investigators say handwriting analysis and other evidence led to the arrest of Jere Bagenstose, 68, of Lancaster County. Maryann Bagenstose has never been located

Hopefully he will give up the location of her remains. Sad that it took this long. Jail is not going to to be kind to him in his aged condition. Perhaps they will offer him a slightly nicer living condition if he gives up her location.
