no problem - thanks for checking. I did a search too and didn't find anything. I think there was a 20/20 or Dateline or 48 hours shortly after the verdict...but have never seen it portrayed on one of the other ID shows.

BBM - no, not necessarily...but yes, you punish those who break the law because there are consequences to those choices when he broke the law. Plenty of young adults make bad choices about things - for example, drinking and driving (I did it myself a couple times in my youth and I'm lucky...

I agree that 10 years is a bit much..I think what he did contributed to some horrible consequences but he should only be judged and sentenced on what he did..and I'm sure the judge will take into account that he was an 18 year old kid. However, I do think at least 3-5 years is fair. JMHO...

I thought he turned down 1 plea deal but he actually turned down two deals..I can almost see why he would roll the dice on the first one but not on the second one...

as OBE said, he was 18 at the time of the crime... I have seen many cases where the PT consults with the victim's family regarding what to recommend for sentencing....but obviously the judge makes the decision. I really hope this guy serves time before he's deported - he deserves it IMHO.

Yes, he turned it down...and they PT also said they'd do what they could to help him avoid deportation if he took the plea and he thumbed his nose at it. It's kind of incredible after hearing the PT's case and the pitiful defense that was put on that he would not take the plea..but seeing how...
