Match! VA - Haymarket, WhtFem 468UFVA, 13-21, Feb'82 *Cynthia Gastelle*

I like this possible despite the lack of info on Cynthia. She is a better possible for this Jane Doe than the Bowling Green KY Jane doe that I came up with on a different thread.

Someone send it in. The contacts for the UID on the namus link I have contacted before about another case, and I have never heard a word back. So they probably aren't the route to go.

Here is Cynthia's Namus Page, she has three different Venues to try to turn in the tip, The Police (under police Information tab, and two on the Contact tab) https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/6111/31/

Excuse me Zinc, if I am stepping on your toes, but I left a voicemail message for the Takoma PD Detective to ask whether the comparison was made. When he returns the call, I'll also ask whether CJG is in CODIS.

Coincidentally, I was looking at Tina Kemp as a possible to Haymarket Jane Doe right when Tina's name came up on the Caledonia Jane Doe thread.

Her height and age are right, The timeline is consistent, and Haymarket VA is about 125 miles from Felton DE.

But her chin and jawline are what really get my attention (at least in comparison to the two recons above).

All four recons look very much different from each other, so it's difficult to determine which features to focus on.

As for negatives, I don't see any mention that TFK had orthodontic work, and there isn't a very good resemblance in an overall sense. But I've seen plenty of recons that have poor overall resemblance, even if they got the facial shape close.

Since Haymarket Jane Doe is in CODIS, we'll know soon enough whether this is a match because TFK's DNA profile is in the process of being entered to CODIS.

I just spoke with Hal Brown of the Delaware ME office, and he said that they had done extensive searching, and found no evidence that Tina F Kemp had been to a dentist. She had been to a doctor who recommended that she see a dentist due to obvious (but unspecified) dental issues, but she had not done so. We decided that since Haymarket Jane Doe had evidence of orthodontics, it is probably not a match, and if it is, CODIS should be able to spot it.

BTW, he says that they have five FRS samples from TFK's mother and sisters, but he doesn't think that they have been input yet to CODIS.

I'll tell ya, Webrocket -- it's a heartbreaker that this young lady hasn't been identified. I mean, how does that work --it mystifies me that the ones who still have braces or have had orthodontia can't be identified.

So back in 1982 the internet wasn't around, neither were cell phones...not sure how extensively milk cartons were being used to publicize missing kids. Surely the Wash Post had an article about this, along with other local papers. The young lady may have hitch hiked to this area, and I don't think police forces across the states communicated very well with each other. Could it be that her family is outside of Virginia and may not be computer/internet savvy (hard to believe in this day and age). She could have been an orphan but the likelihood of that seems lower because of the orthodontia (?). And I just looked at that list of rule outs -- wow. Isn't there an aunt, sibling, neighbor, friend, cousin looking for her? We all have cases that especially trouble of us -- too many cases -- this case is almost 30 years old now, wow -- I can't believe it hasn't been solved.

Carl,

Have you ever heard back from the Takoma PD about a comparison between the UID and Cynthia Gastelle? Cynthia is still not listed on the UID's rule out page in NamUs. The NamUs file was just modified on July 18th... not sure exactly what was modified...

I think this is a good potential match!!

No, I never did hear back from them.

Maybe I will send an email to all of the contacts on the UID's NamUS page, hopefully someone would email me back? (then again, maybe not) I will attach a read receipt to the email to verify at least if they read it.

I've sent an email to the contacts listed for the UID. Keeping my fingers crossed to at least get a reply back... -

I finally received this email back today.

This unidentified case is currently being worked by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office and the Takoma Park Police Department for missing person, Cynthia Gastelle has already been contacted to ascertain if they can get family DNA sample for analysis and comparison on this case and all other UP cases from across the country.

So lets hope that they can get a DNA sample from Cynthia Gastelle's family!!

I received an email from NamUs that people were added to the rule out list:

Here they are:

Sandra Landrum missing from Georgia http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/landrum_cassandra.html

Toni McNatt-Chiappetta missing from Clairton PA http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mcnatt-chiapetta_toni.html

Patricia Seelbaugh missing from PA http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/seelbaugh_patricia.html

Rebecca Triska missing from PA http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/t/triska_rebecca.html

Cynthia Gastelle and Marcia Remick have still not been added to the rule out list. Hopefully they are able to obtain DNA from their families for comparison!

I too think Marcia Remick is a good possible, has she been submitted?
