GUILTY Australia - Daniel Morcombe, 13, Woombye, QLD, 7 Dec 2003 - #2

A funding campaign for a feature film about the case of murdered Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe has reached more than $33,000 in less than two days.

Organisers of the Kickstarter campaign aim to raise $300,000 in a month so that investors can be sought and casting can begin on the film, which is based on the book penned by Daniel’s parents, Where is Daniel?.

"It's a story that inspired a nation. It's why over one million people each year take part in the Walk for Daniel and why literally thousands and thousands of people tied a red ribbon around their letterboxes, to show their support," Hopping said.

Bruce Morcombe is supportive of the Kickstarter campaign and said he is keen for all Australians to feel like they 'own' the film, seeing the public has been so supportive of the Morcombe family.

"This support was very much a key factor in how our family survived and how Daniel was found and eventually laid to rest," Bruce Morcombe said.

Daniel's Law closer to reality after Derryn Hinch elected to Senate, Bruce Morcombe says

Mr Hinch said he would continue to push for Daniel's Law until it was passed at a state and federal level.

Mr Morcombe said Melbourne senator-elect Derryn Hinch has promised to lobby for the national register when he takes his seat in Federal Parliament.

"It'll potentially allow a parent who can sit down with their children, as they should be doing now and say these are the reasons we need you to be safe," Mr Morcombe said.

"If you can sit down in front of a computer and say look, in this suburb there are X number of sexual offenders on this register, it might just bring home the truth."

Mr Morcombe said he had discussed Daniel's Law with Mr Hinch on several occasions.

'The father of slain schoolboy Daniel Morcombe tried to book an airline ticket under a false name so he could act revenge on his son's killer, a coming film will reveal.'

'In never before seen footage obtained by the Courier Mail Bruce confesses to Denise that he had spent a morning trying to book a flight in a false name so he could fly to Perth and confront 'that *advertiser censored* Cowan.'

Despite having an alias Bruce realised that people would recognise him and decided against acting revenge, the chilling film will reveal.

When Denise asked her husband what he intended to do when he arrived in Perth he replied: 'I dunno… kill him?''

'Peter Cousens, the film's director and co-writer, said what went on behind the media spotlight would shock viewers.

Mr Cousens said the audience would see a different side to the seemingly stoic Bruce Morcombe.

'He was filled with a lot of Old Testament vengeance. You think he is a rock, but people will be very surprised when they learn more about Bruce,' he told the publication.'

July 30, 2016, 6:51 am

'Daniel Morcombe's parents, Denise and Bruce, have hit back at an article published about them as "a disgrace" and based upon a "draft movie script".

The article published Saturday reported Bruce wanted to book a flight under a false name, with intention to confront his son’s killer.

However Denise has taken to Twitter to not only strongly deny the reports but also call them "misleading and damaging".

The reports were based upon a "character" in a "draft movie script", Denise Morcombe said on Twitter.'

ABC reporting that the Coronial inquest into Daniel's death will be re-opened/continued.
It was suspended by the Cowan trial.

Attacker screamed this is for Daniel during attack http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-poured-boiling-water-Brett-Cowan-s-head.html

I wonder if Cowan will put a claim in now against the prison service now he has been attacked. I can understand the hatred for people like him but I do not condone attacks on them.

It is hard emotionally because there is a duty of care to prisoners but he took no mind of society's duty of care to a child like Daniel, or the other children he brutalised. We are fallible and we failed as a society in creating a monster like Cowan and we failed in this instance, but I can't say I am all that beat up about the latter, whereas the former will haunt us all forever.

It’s alleged the boiling water was poured from an urn, into a mop bucket – before Cowan was attacked.

Cowan was allegedly beaten with the mop bucket after being splashed with the water.

Cowan is expected to remain in hospital for a week or two.

I expect a compensation claim looming. Rot in hell mongrel.

Frankly, when I heard the news, tgy, I thought; 'Whatever, I couldn't really care less.' I have very little, if any, compassion at all for his kind.

I think this is article is subscriber only so I've summarised -

The lawyer who represented Brett Cowan has left the law firm amid allegations of theft. He used his mistress ( his clerk )to help steal money from Bosscher Lawyers and deposit into accounts for him. $160 000 in total.
Documents were filed in the Supreme Court yesterday claiming the pair created false invoices for clients.
A civil hearing is happening today.

His clerk was sacked the same day as him. She was due to be admitted as a practising lawyer in October.
He has also handed in his practising certificate.

Text messages and emails found detailing their 'relations' in his office and tracing the money to accounts of both.
There was approx $11 000 deposited into an account in her name ( Ms Larcombe- Weate )

Explains his sudden departure from the firm.
