The search for two missing campers from Melbourne's eastern suburbs has ended in tragedy, with the pair found dead on a remote track inside their 4WD.
Caleb Forbes, 22, and Shannon Lowden, 21, were found deceased in the vehicle on Trig East track, east of Thomson Dam about 11am.
Initial investigations have led police to believe the pair's vehicle dropped off the sheer side of the track, but say further enquires are needed.

Whatever happened, he’s been charged with 2 counts of murder, so if he is talking, he isn’t saying oops the first one was an accident. Interesting they’ve gone straight for murder and not started with manslaughter though. You can go up, but you can’t go down, is that right?

I wonder what kind of capabilities there are for the police to get helpful information from Gumtree (with the relevant warrant, of course)?

Whether or not Gumtree provider/servers are able to see who contacted GL about the trailer somehow.

In the Salt Creek attempted murders/sexual assaults, the victims met the perp via Gumtree. Not that I know if Gumtree helped the police or if someone else helped them track down the perp.

A special operations group police were flown in via helicopter to arrest Mr Lynn at a remote Gippsland campsite about 5.30pm on Monday.

That’s an drastic operation, you think there were concerns of him suiciding? Was he suspicious he was being watched.

I feel so sorry for Russell's wife and daughters. Not only has his wife lost a husband but she now knows that her husband had been unfaithful for many years with someone she considered a friend and had known for more than 50 years. She and Russell even attended her first wedding.

His two daughters were visibly upset when they were interviewed recently and now the grandchildren have to be told that Grandpa won't be seeing them again. How do you deal with that.

Likewise, Carol's sister will be devastated. I got the impression that they were close.

And finally, there's going to be shock and sadness in the Lynn family. His wife was raising the 2 children from his first marriage and one from the current marriage. Neighbours described her as a lovely woman who cared for the community as a whole.

Three families ruined. What a tragedy.

yeah they probably thought he might kill himself and then they wouldn't have anyone to arrest and give the family justice, so they pounced earlier than they wanted to

Man charged with murders of missing Victorian campers

"We saw senior detectives from the missing persons squad out in the Gippsland area today," reporter Alexis Daish explained to A Current Affair host Leila McKinnon.

"They were outside of Sale back on the road and there were three senior detectives out there.

A crime scene has been established in the state’s alpine region with police focusing their efforts on finding the pair’s remains.

Police assistant commissioner Bob Hill said investigators had allegedly discovered a crime scene within the great alpine region on Thursday morning.

“We’ve located a specific area and we will be establishing a search perimeter in the coming days and we are hopeful we will locate the remains of Mr Hill and Ms Clay,” he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday night.

“Forensic specialists will commence searching at that location in the coming days. I hope that we will be able to locate the deceased and provide closure to the families.”

Interesting that the police had spoken to Lynn in the past yet still release a sketch of his car and two photos of his car asking for information. He knew they knew it was his car and that move would have put max pressure on him. When they released those car details I assumed they didn't know who's car it was but it looks like that was part of the plan..

Commissioner Hill said police believed the trailer had been sold on Gumtree and would work with the organisation to track its whereabouts.

could anyone please confirm the colour of the 7x5 trailer....is it silver or blue? I've heard police say both. Gumtree has no way of searching sold listings.
I am searching through sold images 2020 gumtree via google... ( slow , ridiculous and needle in a haystack stuff)
I found one sold in Derrimut which is near Caroline Springs...but full disclosure, I am no trailer expert. The opposite in fact.
I don't know a thing.

Plus, and a big plus, if he was dead he couldn't tell them where the bodies are, which I think he must have done, for the police to suddenly be searching a specific area.
