Brian Williams Lied About Being Shot Down in Iraq?

Right, because getting SHOT DOWN is something you forget or "misremember"?! :laughcry:

And that is simply why it's so stupid!

Ummm, I have no doubt that if one had gone through that, one would vividly remember it.

It's not "misremembering" it is a LIE

From a nightly news anchor...it's a sad day when we have to be cynical about every story now....

Way to screw up a career, how can he be credible now?

Hubs and I argue about what is better....he liked ABC....I wanted to watch Brian Williams.....now hubs is LOLing all over the place.....I hate lying liars!

OK So... Why now? What happened that he felt he had to tell this somewhat of an apology now? Did he get threatened with telling on himself by someone that was there? Why now?

Social media. The old timers don't get that they can't lie like they used to.

I want to say it was back in the early 90's that an anchor/newsman was over there, (mideast) in a military helicopter and told a story that turned out to be a lie as well, I want to say it was dan rather, but I can't find it. And now he is backing up brian, I never trusted him either.

you would think one of these pilots would have commented on this by now since their integrity is being questioned, they must be aware of the situation by now, i know krell has been tweeted about it multiple times.

on a ny times reporters twitter account it would appear that the story here may end up making CNN look bad again...

So Now I heard they are also looking into his claims about Katrina. That his reports don't line up with the events where he was.

Apparently the worms are out.

He's gonna be fired, or at least forced to resign, IMO. I'm sure his attorneys are negotiating the termination of his contract right now. And at his level, he will surely take a golden parachute of cash to leave.

When that happens, hopefully NBC will not allow him any "last words" as anchor of the nightly news. The last thing he or anyone else needs is a cameo mea culpa. He needs to just disappear with no discussion or explanation, other than who the new anchor is.

But on the bright side, he will have "more time to spend with his family and friends." If he was smart, he socked away enough $$ for the rest of his life. If not, he'll re-surface in a few years as a commentator or analyst. Maybe there's an empty chair next to Mark Furman, or Eliot Spitzer, or Geraldo, or..........

the twitter account that initiated CNNs story just went *poof*.

odds are that either an impostor fooled CNN (again...) or that the actual rich krell has gone a little batty in his old age.

i would bet on hacked twitter account/impostor right now.

I am not 100% certain, but my understanding is some in the military that were around the situation, knew the truth and kept pressure up to dispel this, and finally Stars and Stripes (a military type magazine or media??) broke the story.

ETA: Yep, that's it.

The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.

If the Simeone account is true (looks like it is) and the Krell account is discredited (looks like it will be soon) then I dont see any way Williams keeps his job through the weekend.

CNN is going to look terrible at the end of this, but what else is new...

I think the very first recent SM mention was on the NBC News FB page after some BS story about the event by BW. BW was called out by one of the guys who was on the chopper and the rest is history. Here is his post:

ETA, Terpak and others who were involved in the incident also comment on the thread.

Seems like CNN got punked on something else big recently. CAn't remember what it was.

Ouch. http://pagesix.com/2015/02/05/tom-brokaw-wants-brian-williams-fired/

You know you’re in trouble when Tom Brokaw is out for your blood.

NBC’s most revered journalist is furious that Brian Williams is still in the anchor chair after he sheepishly admitted he hadn’t traveled on a helicopter hit by enemy fire.

“Brokaw wants Williams’ head on a platter,” an NBC source said. “He is making a lot of noise at NBC that a lesser journalist or producer would have been immediately fired or suspended for a false report.”

On Wednesday, Williams, 55, acknowledged that he had repeatedly said he was aboard a chopper that had been hit by a rocket-propelled grenade during a 2003 reporting trip to Iraq, when he was actually safely traveling in a different aircraft. Brokaw, 74, was still the “Nightly News” anchor when Williams came back from his Iraq expedition — and an insider said he knew the story Williams later spouted was bunk.

“Tom Brokaw and [former NBC News President] Steve Capus knew this was a false story for a long time and have been extremely uncomfortable with it,” the source said. NBC News execs had counseled him to stop telling the tale. Williams still took the anchor’s seat for his “Nightly News” broadcast Thursday evening — and was working at 30 Rock all day despite calls for his dismissal. He didn’t address the issue during the broadcast.

“He is not going to be suspended or reprimanded in any way. He has the full support of NBC News,” a network source said. Many of Williams’ colleagues believe his claim that he simply “conflated” two versions of what happened in 2003.
“There have been meetings about it all day. They are taking it very seriously,” the NBC source said. “But we believe that Brian’s apology on the air speaks for himself. He admitted over time he conflated the events.” NBC brass hasn’t been talking to lower-level employees about the situation, leaving people in a panic, the insider said.

“NBC bosses don’t understand how serious this is. Nobody in a leadership position is talking to the troops. Nobody has addressed it,” the source said. One longtime NBC employee who has worked with Williams on several occasions had a few dirty words to describe the celebrated anchor, calling him a “real pompous piece of s–t.” “He’s an a–hole,” he fumed. “He’s not a journalist. He’s a reader.” “Oh, the fireworks that are going off inside,” he said. “It’s embarrassing. He’s the face on NBC. He’s a liar. “Everyone knew it.” On Friday, Brokaw responded to reports that he wanted Williams axed. “I have neither demanded nor suggested Brian be fired,” Brokaw said in an email to The Huffington Post. “His future is up to Brian and NBC News executives.”

no tv here either.....but wasn't there a similar incident involving Hilary Clinton while visiting Afghanistan some years ago....??....no mention of that either lately....public quickly forgets......

I remember the HC incident also but since I never heard anything about this when she was campaigning against Obama that I was beginning to think I imagining it. It's really great knowing I wasn't.
