GUILTY CA - Caren Ramirez & 3 others for imprisonment, torture of 16yo boy, Tracy, 2008

Dear Kyle,

Words can never express how sad I am to hear what has happened to you. I just now read about your story today and am crying tears of total disbelief that you were subjected to this. I don't know if you will ever read what I am writing to you but I want you to know I WISH I could have been your friend or neighbor. I would have helped you in any way I could. You never ever deserved what happened to you and you were so very, very brave to run away from those monsters. I know it may seem to you at this point in your life that there are no good people left in the world, and you can't trust anyone BUT I know for a fact there are many, many who have read your story and are thinking about you at this very moment. They are thinking how brave you are, how innocent you are and how you must have had to struggle so hard through everyday that you had to endure at the hands of those who hurt you. I can honestly say Kyle, I am thinking how much I LOVE YOU for doing what you did. HOW PROUD I am of you for doing what you did and I will think about you and pray for you everyday that your life becomes exactly what you want it to be. I only wish there were more I could do for you.

I am so, so sorry for what you have gone through. You just did not deserve that. You are a good person. They are the evil ones. Please I pray you never feel one day of guilt, shame or like it was somehow your fault. I send you as much love, hugs and prayers as I am able to.

Sincerely a friend....B. (aka txanmom)

It absolutely disgusts me that so many failed this boy. I hope they have nightmares everynight.

The 970-page transcript includes testimony from the teen, the alleged abusers' children, social workers, police officers and about three dozen other people who had knowledge of the events.

KYLE you are by far the bravest person I have ever read about or heard about. There are no words I could possibly write that would equal how my head & heart feel about your bravery & courage. I pray each day that you will have the love & joy & peace you so richly deserve. I cannot wait to read more things about you one day for I believe in my heart you will achieve the impossible. I'm sorry life has failed you at every turn but find a way to turn it around, take back your life and stand PROUD with your head held high! Many blessings and love to you Kyle.

Transcripts: Shackled Teen Burned With Bat

Tracy Boy Had Skin Grafts, According To Grand Jury Transcripts

June 12, 2009

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Grand jury transcripts released Friday reveal that a Tracy boy who was allegedly held captive was burned with an aluminum bat and had skin grafts after he escaped.

Defendants Caren Ramirez, Michael Schumacher, Kelly Layne Lau and Anthony Waiters are charged with a number of offenses, including kidnapping, torture and child abuse.

San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Angela Hayes told jurors at the beginning of the eight-day grand jury hearing that there were no allegations of sexual abuse.

According to the transcripts, the teen suffered burns from an aluminum baseball bat and a caustic solution by his captors.

"It is substantial physical abuse, I need to prepare you for it … medical examiner had to perform skin grafts several days after the victim, Kyle, was found," according to the transcripts.

more info. re: grand jury transcripts. i cried when Kyle says that the Laus' five year old daughter was always nice to him and would sneak him water and candy. it just makes you realize that there are several victims here....obviously Kyle was the worst off, but i think that their poor children must have been so terrorized. she shows that childhood innocence, that even though all they did was abuse him and talk horribly about him, she still risked getting into trouble to try to help him because she knew in her sweet heart that it was wrong....this case just makes me so sad.

i didn't know about this! this poor judge..

"After missing the last hearing for an unspecified reason, the judge in a case involving a tortured teenager in Tracy has been taken off the case at her own request, according to the court's presiding judge.

San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Cinda S. Fox asked for the case accusing four adults of abusing a 16-year-old boy to be reassigned, according to Judge William J. Murray, Jr.

He said the case is been transferred to Judge Terrance Van Oss.

Fox may still be suffering from anxieties after being stabbed in her courtroom March 4 by David Paradiso. Paradiso — who was on trial for murder in the stabbing of his 20-year-old girlfriend, Eileen Pelt — was shot and killed by an officer immediately after he attacked the judge with a sharp metal object."

Superior Court Judge Terrence Van Oss on Monday set a Feb. 1 trial date for Michael Schumacher, his wife, Kelly Lau, Caren Ramirez, and Anthony Waiters. Van Oss said the trial will last about two months.

The four were indicted by a grand jury in March on aggravated mayhem, torture and false imprisonment of a 16-year-old Kyle Ramirez.

Attorneys representing the four defendants say they plan on challenging the indictment.

The judge set a date for Nov. 9 to hear the arguments.

makes ya wonder how that attorney sleeps at nite. I mean - really!! :furious:

typical lawyers.......if your client is dead guilty, minimize the crime so it doesnt seem so bad......usually they wait for sentencing though. never heard of them trying to get the entire case dropped because of it.

It is beyond my level of comprehension how so called 'human beings' are able to treat a child in such a barbaric manner and be so unaffected by their actions. As for the other children in the home, what are they learning and how will this behaviour affect them in later years. The actions of the adults will have far reaching psychological implications beyond that of the victim. I sincerely hope they will be punished to the fullest extent of the law

I've wondered how this is going, and the answer is: slowly. The judge pulled all the attorneys together and urged them to plea so the poor boy doesn't have to relive all of these horrors at trial. Good for the judge. But of course they continue to drag this out.

Does anybody know how he is these days? I hope he's living to the fullest and healing.

"We're coming up on two years, and all of these defendants have been sitting in custody in our county jail and there's no end in sight," Van Oss said. "Everyone is entitled to some kind of reasonably prompt justice."

....

The boy escaped from the Lau and Schumacher home in December 2008 by unclasping a shackle attached to his ankle and running to a nearby health club, according to police. He is now 17 and his care is being overseen by the court and Child Protective Services.
