I would be interested in a reference, or link, to the above. I hadn't ever heard about this before either, but I am suspicious of this alleged statement, when Karr plead Not Guilty, saying that Wendy Hutchens had set him up. This case is beginning to smell tainted, which, with Wendy Hutchens being the one who originally turned Karr's name into LE, and worked with LE to record Karr's phone calls, it won't be a surprsise.

I'm not thrilled with Wendy Hutchings, but the comments made by John Karr to her during their conversations are chilling to say the least! I hope he's not simply let go and allowed to walk free. If he'd not already molested children, I fear he's very likely to.

HOWEVER, the story on Wayne Adam Ford at crimelibrary tells a different story.

On November 3, 1998, long-haul trucker Wayne Adam Ford, 36, walked into the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department in Eureka, Calif. His brother Rod, who accompanied him, had spent the previous day trying to convince Wayne to turn himself in to police. Shortly after arriving at the department Wayne amazed agents when he tearfully broke down and confessed to murdering four women. His claims were further supported by the contents of a plastic bag found in his pocket during a search. Shockingly, the bag contained a severed breast, which was later linked with Tamez.

Karr makes first local court appearance

Former JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr made his first court appearance in Sonoma County Thursday in a misdemeanor child-pornograpgy case that was put on hold when he didn’t show up for court in 2001.

Amid heightened security in a courtroom filled with media members, attorneys and court personnel, Karr, 41, spoke only to his attorney during the hour-long hearing. He watched the proceedings mostly impassively, once glancing back to wave to his former public defender.

Judge Cerena Wong set Oct. 2 for Karr’s trial but will hear arguments from prosecutor Joan Risse next week, who was seeking additional time to prepare. Karr has asserted his right to a speedy trial.

One of Karr’s three attorneys, Rob Amparán of San Francisco, asked Wong for a bail hearing.

2000 - December, through March 2001, he worked in the Petaluma, Old Adobe, Liberty and Wilmar elementary districts as a substitute school teacher.

2001 – early in year, John Mark Karr contacts Wendy Hutchens re: Richard Allan Davis (murdered Polly Klaas in October, 1993, now on Death Row in San Quentin, awaiting execution). Hutchens worked as an informant for Sonoma County Sheriff's Detective Beau Martin, wearing a wire and taping conversations and saving e-mail messages from Karr. The material she gathered was the basis for a search warrant that investigators say resulted in the discovery of child *advertiser censored* in Karr's computer.

2001 - April 3, Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies seized a computer at Karr’s Petaluma home containing five pornographic images of children.

2001 – April 13: Karr was arrested, and jailed, on five misdemeanor charges of possession of child *advertiser censored* (California Penal Code Section 311.11), and was booked into Sonoma County Jail on $100,000 bail.

I have a feeling California really didn't want to see this case again, at least not with the new information about Karr that has been brought to light by the Ramsey arrest. This case presents a very interesting quandary for the people of Sonoma County, the State Of California, and in fact, all of us.

John Mark Karr is someone we all want to be protected from because of what he might do, while exactly what he has done, remains debatable.

It is somewhat doubtful that Karr can be successfully prosecuted in CA, on the existing 2001 charges, let alone how most of us would like to see him prosecuted. At this point, if Karr is found guilty enough to be forced to register as a sex offender, that would be a success. Any punishment, much beyond that, isn't supported by the current charges.

UPDATE: SECURITY HEAVY FOR KARR COURT APPEARANCE

Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Cerena Wong set Karr's trial for Oct. 2. Karr has not waived his right to a speedy trial and his attorneys contend it must start by Oct. 5, 30 days after a previous hearing on Karr's charges.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Joan Risse disagreed, arguing the trial must start by Oct. 14, within 30 days of Karr's appearance today on the arrest warrant.

Wong set a Tuesday hearing on when the trial will start and on whether Karr's no-bail status should change.

"Our focus is to try to get him out of custody and fight the case under non-custodial status,'' Amparan said. He said Karr should not be considered a flight risk despite his disappearance in December 2001.

Asked if Karr would be in danger if he were released from the jail, Amparan said, "I'm more concerned about his liberty than with some wacko trying to hurt him.''

Earlier this morning Wong ruled that one still photographer from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat newspaper would be allowed in the courtroom during the trial, but she prohibited television cameras in the proceedings.

Risse and Gayle Gutekunst, another of Karr's attorneys, argued the presence of still and television cameras would create a "circus-like atmosphere'' and jeopardize the ability to find an unbiased jury.

"It's bad enough this five-count misdemeanor case has exploded into a media event. Colorado is dead. All (the media) have is this misdemeanor case,'' Gutekunst said.

Rachel Matteo-Boehm, the attorney for the media, told Wong that one still camera and one television camera would not be disruptive and that the charges have raised a legitimate community concern. The presence of cameras would help maintain the public's trust in the judicial system, she said.

I saw the interview on Larry King with Wendy Hutchens and Fardella, and I think it may have been mentioned in that interview that Wendy sent 5 photographs to John Karr. I was supicious of those 5 photos, with Karr being accused of having 5 pornographic photos on his computer.

There's something about Wendy Hutchens......her rubbing shoulders with Polly Klaas's killer and talking with someone like John Karr for hours upon hours.........that makes me suspicious of her motives. I know that she was a childhood friend of Polly Klaas's killer - Richard Allen Davies, but I think most people wouldn't consider that as something to be proud of or capitalize on.

Buzz, if the Wendy Hutchens dot com site is still operational, the profile and the journal notes were on there too (in addition to the Ebay listing). In those notes, she listed every phone call and every email they sent each other. Among those emails were five separate photos of some girl whose name started with an "A". I can't recall the exact name. But that's where it was.

surely he will not be safe wherever he goes, most people have heard him talk about what he woulod like to do or says he has done to children,

if he has any sense he will get out of the US as soon as possible,

I don't think the US keeps an eye on the ones that are registered, let alone the ones that are't, not to really mentioned ones that are never convicted, which Karr may not be. They cant' be bothered... The judges slap their hands for much worse than having five photos in his possession and turn them out on the streets to refend. I don't hold out much hope that anything is going to happen to Karr.

With no criminal record, Karr was working as a substitute teacher in Petaluma and Napa in 2001 when a tip led investigators to his home. A woman (Wendy Hutchens) he had met at a prison-advocacy program at San Quentin State Prison had apparently been so alarmed by e-mails Karr had sent to her that she alerted the sheriff's department.

Investigators searched two homes in Petaluma and seized two computer hard drives, and other equipment that belonged to Karr. Five pornographic photographs of children were found in the computer, according to court documents.

Karr denied that he had engaged in child *advertiser censored* and said he was researching a book about Richard Allen Davis, the man convicted of the 1993 kidnap-murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas, who lived in Petaluma, according to an unsealed court transcript of a 2001 hearing.

Amparan said his client fled because he was scared, noting that at the time, he had been in custody for six months before being released, even though he had no previous arrests. He said Karr had lost his ability to get a job and had lost his wife and children.

"He made a decision that 'There was no chance for me,' and, at a low point in his life, a time of desperation, he made a poor decision," he said. "He maintained his innocence then and he maintains his innocence now."

Former Petaluma teacher's trial for high-profile misdemeanor case set for Oct. 2

Amid unusually tight security in a courtroom filled with reporters, attorneys and curious onlookers, John Mark Karr on Thursday sat in the defendant's chair for the first time in Sonoma County since 2001.

Karr, who had claimed responsibility for the death of JonBenet Ramsey, returned to court for what may be the highest-profile misdemeanor case ever heard in Sonoma County.

With a trio of San Francisco attorneys representing him, a chief deputy district attorney prosecuting the low-level case and dozens of reporters observing his every move, Karr sat quietly after armed deputies escorted him to a long wooden table before Judge Cerena Wong.

Amparán said the defense team hasn't received police reports and other investigative documents related to the child-*advertiser censored* possession charges pending in the Sonoma County case.

In court documents, sheriff's detectives said they began investigating Karr after an informant told them of Karr's fascination with JonBenet Ramsey and 12-year-old Petaluma murder victim Polly Klaas.

Detectives also investigated whether Karr was a viable suspect in the unsolved slaying of 12-year-old Georgia Moses in Petaluma in 1997, eventually concluding he was not.

While serving a search warrant on Karr's home, detectives said they recovered five images from one of Karr's computers that appear to show children in sexual situations.

In court Thursday, Risse said much of the public defender's copy of the case file was "either lost or destroyed" in the past five years.

"We were told to expect banker's boxes (of files)," Amparán said. "We got a handful."

Also during Thursday's hearing, Wong ruled that no television cameras would be allowed in court during the case. But she approved The Press Democrat's request to photograph the proceedings.

Another of Karr's attorneys, Gayle Gutekunst, argued against any cameras in the court, saying that without t hem, the case could return to the "ordinary" status it held in 2001.

"Take it for what it is," she said. "It's a five-count misdemeanor case."

Despite that assessment, the case is being treated as unusual, with court security usually reserved for murder defendants. Ten deputies, including a sergeant and lieutenant, patrolled the courtroom Thursday, in part to protect the unshackled Karr.

Deputies ejected a law clerk from the court and berated a radio reporter while they were turning off their cell phones. Another searched through the reporter's phone to check if he had taken an unauthorized photo with it.

It is a shame, but if he truely is an acting pedophile, the citizenry might have to wait until he offends to take him off the streets and away from the temptation of beautiful little girls!

If the pictures that Wendy sent Karr, while working with Petaluma/Sonoma County LE, were the child *advertiser censored* pictures, then although I am not intimately familiar with the law, it seems as if there may very well be an entrapment issue there.

If there is an entrapment issue, we can be assured that Karr's present attorneys will be very aggressive in having these charges dismissed.

And I hope that "Alyssa" is not Wendy Hutchens' daughter. If she is, exactly who needed to be arrested? SHE (Wendy) would (or should) have been charged with sending the images and that would have been a felony, wouldn't it?

It's going to be an interesting trial. IMO, Wendy's in it up to her eyeballs.

I have 'felt' for a long time that Wendy and the Sheriffs set him up. And, I had forgotten about that E-mail list. Thanks for reminding us.

And, I agree, that no one who is into child *advertiser censored* collects ONLY 5 images. David Westerfield, for example, had hundreds of images if I recall correctly. He even had them categorized.
That's an interesting idea about 'Alyssa' possibly being Wendy's daughter. It wouldn't surprise me. Of course, we are assuming that the Alyssa pics are the *advertiser censored* pics. But, as Buzz pointed out the arrest was made less than a week after those pics were sent.

I am just happy that Karr has what seems like a very smart team of lawyers representing him. He may be cuckoo but he still deserves to be treated fairly and within the law.

The 'logo' is just too ugly to desribe. Perhaps it will grace the cover of her new E-book, when she releases it soon.
