A report of a shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival caused mass chaos among festival attendees Sunday evening, according to CBS San Francisco. The station reported that at least 3 people are dead and 12 others are injured.

A witness described hearing what sounded like "a semi-automatic going off really close" when the Sunday shooting unfolded.

Another witness mistook the gunfire for a music act. "I thought it was, like, an opening act for the concert," he said.

As I'm looking at the videos of people leaving the festival, it reminds me that when going to events like this, always know where the exits are. In an emergency, your thoughts can get muddled, so best to mentally note the exit.

Authorities said the scene was still active, with dozens of officers from around the region on the scene. President Trump said on Twitter that “reports are that shooter has not yet been apprehended. Be careful and safe!”

Witnesses reported hearing multiple rounds fired and that some people were down on the ground. Others said the gunman was armed with a rifle and was dressed in some kind of vest and camouflage fatigues.

Another witness, Julissa Contreras, told NBC Bay Area that she saw a white man in his early to mid-30s firing a rifle that was “able to shoot three to four shots a second.”

“It was just rapid firing,” she said. “I could see him shooting in just every direction. He wasn’t aiming at anyone specifically. It was just left to right, right to left…. He definitely was prepared for what he was doing.”

Police and emergency personnel late Sunday responded to reports of a shooting involving at least 11 victims at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California.

Ambulance crews were told 11 people were down in an active shooter incident at Gilroy's Christmas Hill Park. As of 7:30 p.m. the situation was still active, according to Gilroy police.
