GUILTY CA - Sarah Douglas, 26, murdered in her Elk Grove home, 1 May 2014

From the article: "He was also fired from his job as a battalion chief with the state department because he missed five days of work, reported the newspaper, but the termination has nothing to do with the charges.

Sounds like he was having personal issues even before this.

The keys (Fleming has) can unlock gates meant to keep vehicles out...and provide access to...lookout towers, locked caches of food...When he temporarily shaved his head and moustache last fall...even his family and friends didn't recognize him."

It also says armed guards are patrolling fire training grounds. I guess authorities think that having been fired, Fleming may look for revenge? It's the last thing Cal Fire needs - OC was covered in smoke the last few days, and it looks like they have an arsonist there, on top of all the regular wildfire risks.

The article also corrects Sarah's name again, from Sarah Jane to Sarah June.

He has been called a survivalist. But I have been thinking about this.

Most modern outdoorsmen go on treks, but they've had time to make plans and get prepared. They have shelter of some type, food, ammo, means to make a fire, first aid supplies and so many things. He didn't have time to plan and to gather those. Also I get the impression that this isn't a man used to a lot of solitude. If he has money to buy additional supplies it would be a risk for him to go to a store and he doesn't have transportation to go anyway.

If he took to the mountains I look for him to get caught soon. Or at least he will allow himself to be seen. There are very few who can go into the mountains alone and stay there totally alone.

One thing I hope is that in addition to alerting forestry employees that they also give posters to the little gas stations and Mom and Pop groceries.

BBM -- outdoorspeople tend to already own everything they need.

Mr. Carbuff is a serious hiker, and that means a section of our basement is taken up with stuff like this -- several sleeping bags, at least four different types of camp stove, cooking gear, at least six tents of varying sizes and weights, stuff I don't even know the name of. He wouldn't even have to pack the ordinary stuff like first aid kit, compass, etc. because that lives in the pack he uses most often. There's a shelf in the pantry full of dehydrated meals, packets of peanut butter, powdered sports drinks, etc.

It does take a few minutes to put the sleeping bag and tent in compression stacks and so forth, but I would bet he could pack and be out of here prepared for a couple of weeks in the wilderness in less than half an hour if he needed to.

Fleming used Redbook to flee:

(Snip)

The charges of homicide were filed after Douglas’ body was found brutally murdered in a home she shared with Fleming on May 1. He has been on the lam ever since the death and it's believed he used the same escort service to meet another woman to hitch a ride out of town after he ditched his truck, Sacramento County Sgt. Lisa Bowman said.

What do you wanna bet that this "survivalist" is sitting comfortably somewhere drinking beer and watching the NFL draft?

It wouldn't surprise me either way.

If he really is suicidal, he probably ran out into the wilderness. If he's as nasty and manipulative as some of the comments make it seem, then yeah, he probably has manipulated or coerced somebody into sheltering him.

That's what I think too. The keys were either a habit to take them or a deliberate attempt to throw them off. I think he left the area somehow, some way.

Good points. But eventually he would run out. Crave a cup of coffee maybe. It's been more than a week and I still think there will be some supplies he either forgot or will run out of if he is in those mountains.

Could you ask Mr Carbuff how long he thinks he could last in the wild, with limited supplies and no human contact?

I'm think the same ... whoever picked him up could have driven him all the way down to Mexico or wherever, helped him change his appearance, etc.

Mr. Carbuff is a nice guy, but he's not a survivalist :D But basically if there's a food source, a water source, and shelter, a person could survive indefinitely.

Lets hope LE knows who his MRB contacts are. Cal Fire has some remote stations in areas I patrol. Really been bumping up my SA and praying I would not roll up on this guy. With that said, I dont think his helpers would like the woodsy thing. In all the pics I see sun and mixed drinks. In my opion Moe also came up in the fire service in more of a centralized urban setting. Not a true wildland background. I could b wrong, I just dont see him running for the hills. I wouldnt b suprised if hes someplace warm and sunny. If he is still alive, and he is who the media and IE says he is.

Thanks for the insight ~

I hadn't seen this detail before, so maybe other didn't either...

At 2:31 a.m. May 1, two hours after the slaying in South Sacramento, Orville sent his final text

http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news...chiefs-texts-sent-just-after-killing/25894478

I too have a feeling he is somewhere warm and sunny. He had several hours to leave the area before she was found. I don't see why he would head for the mountains instead of LA or SD or Mexico, but who knows. 10 days is a long time with no idea where he really is... saying he could be in Santa Cruz, the Sierras, etc. is like saying he could be somewhere in the state of New Mexico. :( Be safe Slapy
