How could anyone stay quiet if witnessing child abuse is beyond my comprehension.

Wouldn't Huntsman have been getting money from the state or other government for taking care of the kids? How much? Perhaps that was the only reason she was doing it.

Five hours of surgery! What the hell did they do to her?? I hope she pulls through... But what a tragic life she's had already :(

I wonder how long this woman has been going out with this 17 year old boy, and how she met him!

Woman who is nearly 40 has no business dating a 17 year old to begin with.

I just cannot stand this. What I think most bugs me is that people who do this kind of thing never get the time and punishment they deserve.

I don't care who she was dating or their age. I want her in prison for life.

There are lots of details in this Plumas county article that I haven't seen elsewhere.
The surviving 9 year old child was found seriously injured and starved at 40 lbs on the floor of a car. Twin twelve year olds were taken from the home. Huntsman is reportedly their mother. She is the aunt of the nine year old and her guardian after the child's mother committed suicide two years ago. Intensive questioning of GC led LE to the storage unit Sunday evening. TH has not been cooperative. They just moved to Quincy this month and we're staying with a friend. The children had not gone to school. The children in the storage unit have not been accounted for after questioning family in Salinas...so at this point it's either unknown who they are or LE isn't saying.
More at the link including a mug shot.

I'm heartbroken and furious.

One of the comments says that the mother didn't die by suicide but was hit by a car almost two years ago.

In the past six months, Salinas police say two anonymous calls were made reporting child abuse at the couple’s East Salinas house near the corner of Fremont Street and Madeira Avenue. Officers responded both times, Salinas police Chief Kelly McMillin says.

The children’s mother died in a car accident and their father is incarcerated, one official confirmed. Their father had made arrangements for Huntsman to care for his three children while he was serving his sentence.

The criminal complaint filed on Monday against Huntsman and Curiel says the pair maliciously tortured and abused the 9-year-old girl over the course of a year, according to a Record Searchlight report. So far, no murder charges have been filed and it’s unclear where exactly the children were killed.

Officers responded both times, Salinas police Chief Kelly McMillin says. He would not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

“We have a lot of detectives doing a lot of work and we are trying to prioritize our work,” McMillin says. “We have more questions than answers at this moment.”

It’s not known exactly when the children moved in with Huntsman—neighbors recall it being over a year ago—but four complaints had been lodged with the County Department of Social Services over the past year.

It's looking more and more like the Department of Social Services and police were incompetent and could have prevented this tragedy.

Quincy (in Plumas county) where JH and GC lived, is about 140 miles southeast of Redding (Shasta county) where the bodies were found. Quincy is a small town a little over 1700 population. Redding is almost 90,000.

Salinas (in Monterey county), where JH is from, is near Santa Cruz and Monterey, south of the SF Bay Area. The population is around 156,000.

I have not read the whole thread yet--hard to bear. But this is METH COUNTRY. I am afraid it will be connected to that.

There's been a ******** account set up by the children's aunt to help with expenses. She gives a brief summary of the situation, which is worth a read.

I would assume the only surviving child is now in protection of the state. . .....I hope there is a thorough investigation into the WHOLE family before the child is returned to anyone other than foster family! This didn't happen overnight. ....where was the other members of the family, who now set up a , when those kids needed them most? !

I hope this child, as well as the older ones, are in great foster care. You'd be shocked at how often the foster home is just as bad as "home" was. :(

Yes there are huge failings in the foster system, vulnerable children and foster carers who do it for the wrong reasons. It's situations like this that make me realise we are all responsible for the safety of all children.

YES! It's so true! I'm a mandatory reporter, and have been since graduating from college, ten years ago. I think either way, everyone should behave as one.

If there's reasonable information to suspect a child is being harmed, it's all of our responsibility to act!

Edited a typo

The 9-year-old is Huntsman's niece.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/12/15/who-killed-these-preschoolers.html

Hagwood told The Daily Beast that the dead children were siblings, and didn’t appear to be related to Huntsman or the 9-year-old girl. It’s unclear why Huntsman had custody of the other two kids or for how long.

Authorities began investigating the 9-year-old’s abuse after a citizen who came into contact with the family quickly realized something was wrong and alerted child protective services, who called police, Hagwood said.
