Provincial police say a "significant" portion of a man's dismembered body could be still out there somewhere, waiting to be found. And with it could come answers.
Part of a Caucasian man's body -- believed to be a lower torso and legs with the feet missing, based on witness accounts -- was found May 22 in Oro-Medonte Township's Sugar Bush area, north of Barrie, during the Victoria Day holiday weekend. More of his mutilated remains were found later that day in Lake of Bays Township, east of Huntsville.
A third set of remains was discovered last Friday, northeast of Bracebridge, on the shoulder of Stoneleigh Road, off Musoka Road 117, by a construction worker.
Police believe those remains were also deposited over the long weekend.
The man's identity hasn't been determined, but authorities say his body was dumped in plain view not long before the body parts were discovered. Police have said he was the victim of a homicide, although cause of death hasn't been confirmed.
Const. Peter Leon said there's a "strong belief " -- based on geography, timeline and what parts have been located -- that the most recent remains also belong to the same man.
"It's one step closer than we were the day before, but there are additional human remains yet to be located," said Leon, who wouldn't comment on what it still missing, although he did say investigators aren't yet close to having a whole body. "There's still some significant human remains yet to be located."
Investigators are awaiting results from more post-mortem tests scheduled for Tuesday at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
"Any piece of information (detectives) can get, whether it be medical-related or a tip from the public, will be welcomed by the investigators, most definitely," Leon said.
The location where Friday's remains were found was searched closely for evidence.
"There was nothing found in that immediate area," Leon said.
