This is from the local CTV news ...

"They were to attend a family gathering on that day. However they did not arrive. They failed to show up. This is unusual for the couple and the family became quite concerned when they were not able to have any sort of communication or contact with the couple." - York Regional Police Constable M.Armstrong

She also confirmed that the couple were in a romantic relationship and lived together in the city of Markham.

''YRP Constable Maniva Armstrong said Tuesday that there is "no information to suggest there was a connection between the parties," despite one victim having the same last name as the accused.

"There is no relation or connection between the two of them," YRP Constable Maniva Armstrong said Tuesday.

Police did not say why they believe the attack is targeted or how the two victims died. Authorities said they are working on recovering their bodies.

Armstrong said she does believe though that the couple were targeted by the suspect.

She said the suspect is believed to have fled the Toronto area.

Armstrong said police have been in close contact with the family Nguyen and Tran.

"They are devastated and of course grieving their loss," Armstrong said.''
 
RIP. This came outta the blue :-(

last known was 4:50PM in Markham (Hwy 7 & Warden Avenue) now it is 5:30PM at 111 Zenway Blvd in Brampton. ..and that tractor-trailer of interest was seen at 11:30PM that evening of the disappearance/suspected foul-play.

Warrant has been issued for Toronto man Phuong Tan (aka "Mike") Nguyen, who police say should be considered armed and dangerous.

"Police are actively working to recover the bodies."

If the couple had no connection to the man, wondering how LE came to the conclusion that the wanted man likely murdered them?
Could he be a hired hit man, did they have some kind of accident and rather than exchange insurance info.make a report etc, they were killed?
LE believe that man is 'armed and dangerous' does that likely mean he has a gun (how would this be known?) did he escape prison, or maybe a mental hospital?
Are the bodies likely to be found in the missing truck, or were they deposited in water somewhere? speculation, imo.

It’s a modern and well-to-do area. Lots of rich young couples living in high priced condos.

Perhaps they were targeted for their wealth and taken to that commercial complex , possibly one or both victims have some cash business there with a safe. Or possibly being held for ransom there and things went south at some point. They were missing for about 10 days.
 
even if you have a very common last name. what is the probability of being killed by a random stranger that coincidentally has the same last name as you? ... seriously, of all homicides committed by random unrelated perps, what % of these case does the perp have the same surname as the victim?

honestly there are many in the Asian community. there are so many nguyens in my city and many are no relation. its like smith or garcia.
