Canada - Sentry killed in War Memorial shooting, Ottawa, 22 Oct 2014

I wonder if the guy who jumped the fence to the white house today was a copy cat in itself.

The others injured :

"Apart from first patient, they had minor, non-life threatening injuries and remain in hospital at this time," hospital spokeswoman Hazel Harding told ABC News. One of the patients was a Parliamentary Security officer who had been shot in the leg when the gunman entered the building, but the hospital said that it was an "extremity gunshot wound" and is "quite stable." Two others were brought to the hospital with unspecified injuries. All three were later released.

early on there were two eyewitnesses:

one said skinny guy with long hair
second one said (referring to seeing body on floor walking by after shooting) obese older person

((don't have links --))

it surprised me when I read this

"Bathurst remembered him as a large-framed white man and said he thought he might have played football at one time.

He could not tell from if the photo of Zehaf-Bibeau holding a rifle, which circulated online Wednesday, was the same man his company hired last spring. His son was also unable to confirm the identity of the man in the photograph.''

am going to say extra prayers that they got the bogeyman and that there is not another one running amok tonight.....

Interesting … apparently, some US govt sources are saying that the shooter’s name was Michael Joseph Hall.

Don’t know where that name comes from, maybe it is an alias, but the Globe and Mail are saying this .....

Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the slain 32-year-old suspected killer of a Canadian Forces soldier near Parliament Hill, was a labourer and small-time criminal – a man who had had a religious awakening and seemed to have become mentally unstable.

Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau was born in 1982 and was the son of Bulgasem Zehaf, a Quebec businessman who appears to have fought in 2011 in Libya, and Susan Bibeau, the deputy chairperson of a division of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board. The two were divorced in 1999.

So, they are saying that his father may have been a man who, in 2011, travelled to Libya to join the rebel fighters.

Just six weeks ago, the Ottawa shooter, Michael, said he wanted to travel to Libya … and that is when he was blocked from travelling. He was also asked to stop attending prayers at a Burnaby mosque due to his erratic behaviour.

Authorities are searching for Susan Bibeau in Montreal tonight - she's the suspected shooter's mom and a high ranking Gov. employee.

"Law enforcement and U.S. government sources told CBS News the suspect's birth name was Michael Joseph Hall, born in Quebec in 1982. He recently converted to Islam and called himself Michael Abdul Zehaf-Bibeau. Sources said he had a history of drug addiction prior to his conversion"

Very confusing. Did his birth certificate say Michael Joseph Hall? Yet his mum is Susan Bibeau.

Is he the son of Bulgasem Zehaf, who Susan Bibeau was apparently married to until 1999?

Where does the birth last name Hall come from? Perhaps Zehaf was Bibeau's 2nd husband and/or not the birth father of the shooter?

"The suspect grew up in Laval, a city north of Montreal in Quebec.

Canadian media said his father, Bulgasem Zehaf, was originally from Libya and ran a cafe in Montreal. His mother, named as Susan Bibeau, worked at Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board.

The pair were said to have divorced in 1999.

This is very interesting to me. Where did the more English sounding name come from?

"His father’s history offers a hint of what Mr. Bathurst was concerned about. In 2011, a Montrealer named “Belgasem Zahef” was quoted in a Washington Times dispatch from the front in Libya, where he had travelled to join the rebel fight. The man described being detained at the Zawiyah oil terminal, where he witnessed torture.

At the Burnaby mosque, Mr. Bathurst said his friend’s “erratic” behaviour – he did not elaborate – caused frictions with the elders at the house of worship, who asked him to stop attending prayers. At that time, Mr. Zehaf-Bibeau was living in a barely furnished single-room apartment.

Mr. Bathurst said he recalls his friend being arrested at the mosque a few years ago after bizarrely calling police to tell them about a crime he had committed many years before."

"In 2003, at the St-Jérôme courthouse, he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery, theft and conspiracy and was sentenced to a prison term of two years less one day followed by three years of probation. That same year, he also pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, also at the St-Jérôme courthouse, and was sentenced to a six-month prison term and three years of probation.

"In 2002, at a time when Zehaf Bibeau might have been residing in Aylmer, he was convicted, under the name Michael Bibeau, in a case involving fake credit cards, was fined $100 and granted an absolute discharge. That same year, in Laval, he pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and received a suspended sentence.

In 2001, he was charged with violating a condition set as part of a sentence he received as a young offender."

It's interesting that his mother has positioned herself in a role that makes decisions about who will be a new Canadian.

Did the murderer suddenly, out of the blue, have crazy ideas about killing people if they did not adhere to his set of beliefs (per ISIL), or was he predisposed, perhaps during his upbringing, to have strong feeling about others that have different beliefs?

I think that the shooting at the memorial was supposed to serve as a distraction - to pull security away from Parliament Hill, and make it easier for him to enter the building with a gun

"The mother of the Muslim convert who shot dead a Canadian solider outside Parliament on Wednesday has said she is crying for the victims, rather than for her son.
In a brief and tear-filled telephone call on Thursday, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau's mother Susan Bibeau told the Associated Press she did not know what to say to those hurt in the attack.

'Can you ever explain something like this?' she said. 'We are sorry.'

Susan Bibeau, whose son had his passport seized after he was designated a 'high-risk traveler', works as a federal public servant for the Immigrant & Refugee board and lives in Montreal."

There is a pic of his mum at this link. She has worked for IRB for 24 years, starting as a refugee protection officer, and is now Deputy Chairperson, Immigration Division.
