Casey's Defense Team Keeps Attacking The Science of the State's Case.

Do you believe a jury would convict KC without any scientific evidence?

:twocents::maddening::twocents: For the record: I AM BIASED! Don't attack a Medical Technologist :seeya: as an individual who doesn't "know" chemistry.....who the heck do you think determines & confirms the accuracy of your cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides levels?:waitasec: :maddening: HARRUMPH, those example tests ARE chemistry!:banghead::banghead:

I :innocent: do believe that JAB is attacking Dr. Vass as a "non-scientist" per se with the greatest HOPES that somebody :waitasec: on the jury will HEAR "NON-SENSE".:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

The great "he is not a chemist" debate by JAB WILL continue UNLESS and UNTIL the SA itemizes the course background of Arpad Vass, Ph. D. and demonstrates that the vocation "chemist" is NOT exclusive of those with an in depth knowledge (working, active, hands-on in any aspect) of chemistry! AND to further that argument, there are MANY types of "chemists" as noted by the defense when JA called Barry Logan, Ph.D a "chemist" vs a "toxicologist". :truce:
Regarding the SCIENCE of any of these specialists, the INSTRUMENT (GC/MS) under debate (please N.B. Jose, it is NOT regarded as a :maddening: "machine" :maddening: by the daily USERS!) has been a workhorse of the scientific community for many years, :great:inclusive within ACADEMIC undergrad & graduate courses; clinical and research laboratories utilize the instrument too! :woohoo:

...by JB's logic, only a chemist could be trusted to read, translate, transcribe or measure the results of the chromatograph (not 'chromatogram', JB, though that would be interesting) tests. Maybe a food chemist? They make'em, you know, these food chemists:

I don't know about you guys but I see food chemists reading chromatographs all the time. I just wish they'd use one to figure out why saurkraut tastes so much better than it smells. Maybe they could use the results to further efforts to make saurkraut smell more like bacon. ..

As usual, Joypath, very well stated! I think that HHJP may be inclined to allow Dr. Vass' testimony about the smell. I have looked on the internet and it seems that using the GC/MS instrument to determine the compounds of odors is nothing new at all. The way JB has argued it, I was left with the idea that this was a brand new thing that Dr. Vass' was doing, and no one else had done it before. The only thing that Dr. Vass is doing that is different is what he is analyzing the odor of, not that he is analyzing the odor of something. I am supplying 3 links that I found where they discuss the use of a GC/MS to analyze the compounds of different odors, as well as using the headspace that Dr. Vass talked about. It is just my opinion, but I feel that if HHJP does his own research as he has stated, we will be seeing Dr. Vass at the trial. I certainly hope so anyway.

Please note that on this first link, M-scan, on the left there is a drop down menu. Go down to Environmental Analysis and a secondary menu will come out to the right. About half way down you will see a link that says Vehicle Air Quality. It is under the Odors section. Apparently, the automobile makers use this type of science to test the interior air of the cars they sell us. This is something that has been going on for years. I personally feel better after reading this.

They can attack ALL they want but DNA does not lie.

I'm starting to think that letting this testimony in would be good. They don't need it, but (IIRC) it's never been accepted into a court before and this would set a precedent for it.

I don't necessarily think that they need it either, but I do think in the face of CA and GA backpeddling to the pizza defense, that it would leave the jury with no doubt about what that smell was. If JB and company are now going to try and say that the chloroform was from wet bathing suits and and the fatty acids are from dryer sheets, I want someone with some REAL scientific knowledge to be there to ensure the jurors that that is NOT the case. I thought Dr. Vass spoke with clarity and passion. He had a great personality and demeanor and I think the jurors would understand and relate well to him. I thought it was hilarious that he would just throw his hands up at JB and say "I don't even know how to answer that question!" Lol! I loved it! I am hoping more and more that it gets let in. Then, JA can keep what he wants the jury to hear to the bare minimum facts and JB will only be able to cross examine Dr. Vass on those things only and not be able to wander into the land of Oz like he did during the hearings. moo

It hasn't been released, as yet...we are all waiting on that one, it could open up some cans of worms...JMHO

Justice for Caylee

Do you think the Defense would already know what was said? When does the state have to release it if they want to use it at trial?

Defense is included in the deposition by the State so they are aware of what DC's testimony will be. My guess is it will not be released in time for trial. :tears::tears::tears:
