Pueblo West Woman Arrested in Death of Infant Son
A 24-year-old Pueblo West woman was arrested Friday night by Pueblo County Sheriff’s Detectives on a warrant for child abuse in connection with the death of her 10-week-old son.
Jannie Gatlin was arrested at her home after Pueblo County Sheriff’s Detectives obtained an arrest warrant following an autopsy report that revealed her infant son died December 29, 2018, as a result of extreme malnourishment.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 1:45 p.m. December 29 to Parkview West Emergency Room on the suspicious death of an infant boy. Emergency room doctors told deputies the child was unresponsive and appeared severely emaciated and dehydrated when he was brought in by Gatlin at about Noon. Hospital personnel attempted unsuccessfully to resuscitate the infant.
After receiving the results of the forensic autopsy, Sheriff’s Detectives obtained and executed the arrest warrant for Gatlin. Gatlin was booked into the Pueblo County Jail.
“This is a very tragic situation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this senseless tragedy,” said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor.
