We heard from those 2 HR employees & several co-workers of Kelsey’s (all flight instructors too) who all testified they saw no evidence that Kelsey struggled with any kind of substance abuse. One coworker said Kelsey didn’t drink at all, at one point when he knew her.

Doss Aviation coworkers share memories of Kelsey

Flight instructor Carolyn Sharp worked alongside Berreth when she first joined Doss Aviation and was undergoing training while pregnant. She recalls how Berreth had to stop the training halfway through her pregnancy as she could no longer fit comfortably in the cockpit. She described Berreth as very private, quiet, reserved but really sweet.

At one point she explains Berreth's body language changed following a phone call with Frazee and Berreth said he wasn't treating her well. [..]

She says Berreth loved being a mom and can’t understand how she did it as a single mom.

“What a woman of strength to be able to do that. I don’t know if I could,” Sharp says.

A prosecutor asks if Sharp ever had concerns about alcohol and drugs with Berreth, to which she says there were never any signs, only stress tied to being a mom and a high-pressure job.

Robert Hill, another flight instructor for Doss Aviation, says Berreth told him about "a random lady" who came to her house with coffee. This is in reference to Krystal Kenney's testimony she went to Berreth's home with coffee, not poisoned as she alleges Frazee wanted, and spoke with Berreth under false pretenses.

When talking about her relationship with Frazee, Hill recalls she would say he was "good and working," then changed to say he was “acting like a dick” and causing her stress.

Human Resources partners for Doss Aviation recall conversations with Frazee

Jennifer Barks was called to testify about her efforts to reach out to Frazee during the first days Berreth was missing.

She recalls calling him Dec. 3, the Monday after Berreth was reported missing, to make sure he was aware she was missing.

During the conversation, Frazee asked if she knew anyone who could take care of his daughter Kaylee, according to Banks.

What was more concerning to Banks was Frazee claiming Berreth had a drinking problem, something she says she challenged as fellow pilots and people at work would have noticed an issue like that due to the nature of their work.

According to Banks, Frazee had no reply.

She also recalls telling Frazee he was listed as the beneficiary on Berreth's company life insurance policy, however that was later found to be false as the company was in the process of changing benefits and Berreth did not complete the paperwork. bbm

Berreth had also changed her status from being a full-time employee to a part-time employee in November 2018.

FRAZEE TRIAL DAY 8 LUNCHTIME NOTES:
• This trial is moving well ahead of schedule. Both parties say they expect to be ready for closing arguments on Friday. They continue to speed through witnesses.
• We heard from several of Berreth’s coworkers at Doss Aviation. They testified she never showed signs of having issues with alcohol and drugs. All said she loved being a mother and caring for her daughter.
• An HR employee for Doss testified Frazee was listed as the beneficiary on Berreth’s life insurance. She said Berreth filed paper work to go from full-time to part-time in Nov. 2018, which is why she was losing health insurance for her and her daughter. She wasn’t going to be working the required hours.
• We also heard briefly from now-CBI Agent Chris Adams, who says they didn’t find anything in the Midway Landfill search. About a month ago, he says he learned Evraz Steel and a silver trash can became more relevant (from the burn on Frazee’s property). He didn’t elaborate further.
• A CBI serologist testified briefly about her preparation of a DNA kit of swabs taken from Berreth’s townhome. It seems like we’ll hear some of those results this afternoon.
• Judge said he and both teams of attorneys are meeting off the record in his chambers to discuss an upcoming witness. He also provided a courtesy advisory to Frazee about his right to testify if he so chooses.

Rogers also tested the tooth fragment found on Frazee’s property. She testified that she could detect 2 things: there was human DNA, and it wasn’t male. However, Rogers says there wasn’t enough DNA in the sample to get a profile (meaning WHO it belonged to)

So in simplest terms, Rogers testimony explains how she matched Kelsey’s DNA profile to samples collected from Kelsey’s bathroom and toilet, possible blood on Kelsey’s fireplace, a baby gate, pieces of hardwood living room floor, and furniture

This is super complex science, but best I can explain it is this: she collected DNA belonging to Kelsey, Patrick, their daughter, Kelseys mom & brother, previous condo owner/resident, and Krystal Lee. Then she used those DNA profiles as references as she tested items of evidence.

In court on Wednesday, we learned the FBI was unable to link the tooth found in a burn pile on Frazee's property to Kelsey Berreth. Investigators state other testing found it was likely human and belonged to a female. The testing ultimately destroyed the tooth. A forensic anthropologist who testified today said she had examined the fragment of the tooth. She revealed it was actually two fragments, one was pretty small and the other was bigger. We saw pictures the forensic anthropologist took of the tooth. She told the court today after examining it, it was a human tooth.

The tooth was then sent to the FBI for further testing. Their testing ultimately destroyed the tooth because of the specific testing they performed. According to Rogers, the FBI couldn't retrieve any DNA from it either.

Caitlin Rogers also told the court she tested about 92 pieces of evidence in the case. Some of the stand out evidence included blood from floor boards in Kelsey Berreth's condo, blood from the fireplace, and blood from a baby gate. Rogers said the blood from the fire place was only one person's blood, Kelsey's. She said the same about the baby gate. She testified she tested both items which came back positive for blood and when she tested them she said the blood came back to a single contributor which was Kelsey Berreth

Rogers stated Susan Gorney's DNA was present in the floor board. We learned today she lived in the townhome before Kelsey for more than 20 years, so it was not uncommon her DNA would be found places.

Several coworkers of Kelsey's testified. They told the court they remembered Kelsey as a sweet, quiet person who loved to be a mom and worked extraordinarily hard. They all said they worked closely with Kelsey and she had mentioned times when her and Patrick would have relationship issues. One co-worker said Kelsey told her Patrick Frazee did not treat her well.

One of the HR people at DOS Aviation, Kelsey's place of work, testified about medical benefits and life insurance. She told the court Patrick Frazee was the beneficiary on Kelsey's life insurance policy. She also said he was the emergency contact for Kelsey.

The judge today also stated today along with the prosecution, that the prosecution is very much ahead of schedule with witnesses. Originally potential jurors were told to expect the trial to last until at least November 22nd. Today the judge said he's "cautiously optimistic there is a strong chance for closing arguments Friday afternoon." Prosecutors said they would be wrapping up witnesses tomorrow. The defense plans to call one witness on Friday with closing statements Friday afternoon. Today Judge Sells told Patrick Frazee he has until Friday to decide if he plans to testify in the case or not.

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. — Multiple people who worked with Kelsey Berreth before she disappeared from Woodland Park in November 2018 described her as private, kind and very loving toward her 1-year-old daughter. This contradicts what other witnesses claimed Patrick Frazee, her fiancé who's accused of killing her, told them.

The prosecution also brought forward one of Frazee's friends, who testified that Frazee said Berreth had given him custody of their daughter, and a handful of authorities who were involved in the investigation, including two experts who had already testified.

Teller County Waste manager: There was no trash at Berreth’s home around Thanksgiving

The state then called Jennifer Barks, who worked as a human resources director for seven years at Doss Aviation, including in November and December of 2018.

She told police that Frazee was Berreth’s emergency contact. On Dec. 3 — a day after Berreth was reported missing — Barks called Frazee to ensure he knew she was missing, she said. She said Frazee asked if somebody could “take the baby,” which prompted Barks to ask about Kaylee, the 1-year-old girl Frazee and Berreth had had in October 2017. Frazee said the baby was fine.

She said he also told her that Berreth had a drinking problem and went to rehab.

Frazee never offered any speculations on what happened to Berreth, Barks said.

Human relations employee helped Berreth prepare to move to part-time

Part-time employees don’t get benefits at Doss Aviation, Russ said, and she notified Berreth via email of this change because she assumed Berreth wouldn’t want to lose medical benefits for her and her daughter. Berreth was concerned about not having medical insurance for her daughter, Russ said.

Viehman confirmed it was not common for flight instructor to switch between full-time and part-time.

Frazee’s friend: He said Berreth gave him custody of baby, she wouldn’t check in for months

she thinks he first mentioned Kaylee in October 2018. She said she remembered that she was shocked and tried to ask more about Kaylee. Frazee told her he had picked her up at the hospital on the day she was born, she said.

Former police commander says they never found information suggesting Berreth was alive

Reed asked if Adams knew anything about EVRAZ Steel, a steel manufacturer, and Adams said he learned of the name about a month ago in relation to the silver trash can that found was near the trough where Frazee allegedly burned Berreth’s body.

Work friend recalls discussions with Berreth around time of alleged murder

Hill said they were fairly close, but not romantically. He said he thought Frazee was Berreth’s husband and that she had talked about him at work. He knew Frazee was Kaylee’s father, he said.

Berreth had mentioned that she didn’t get along well with Frazee’s mother, Sheila Frazee.

Hill asked if she would bring Frazee to the company’s Christmas party and Berreth said no because Frazee didn’t “like wearing khakis or slacks,” Hill said. He said he thought this was odd.

Blood found in Kelsey Berreth's Woodland Park townhouse — on a toilet, a baby gate and underneath the living room floorboards — is almost certainly the missing woman's, a DNA expert testified in the trial of the Florissant rancher accused of killing her.

Both fragments appear to have been taken from a burn area where prosecutors say Frazee incinerated Berreth's body in the driveway of his Florissant ranch.

On Wednesday, a DNA expert testified that the larger of the tooth fragments was human and belonged to a female — but investigators could reach no further conclusions. The tooth was pulverized into dust during the test.

The DNA investigator went through numerous samples taken from Berreth's townhouse and found that many of the blood stains could be linked to her. The blood on the toilet, for example, is 108 septillion times more likely to be Berreth's than someone else's. A septillion is a 1 followed by 24 zeros.

Investigators also said they found a mixture of DNA in a number of locations — including the floorboards — that belonged to the former owner of Berreth's townhouse.

The revelations followed testimony earlier Wednesday that Frazee also appeared to be the beneficiary of Berreth's life insurance policy — providing a possible motive for Frazee in the alleged killing.

Anissa Smith, also of Florissant, said Frazee claimed he picked up the girl on the day she was born at the hospital and had full custody of her.

A former co-worker of Berreth’s, Robert Hill III, also a flight instructor, said Berreth once confided in him about a fight with Frazee, but never mentioned serious discord with Frazee.

In fact, she said their fight was over a real estate agent they had used to try to find a place together.
