Found Alive France - Alex Batty, 11 from Oldham Uk, parental abduction, 2017 *found alive in France after walking in Mountains*

From E! Online, this stood out for me:
Although Alex said his mom is a good person, he didn't praise her parenting skills.

"She's just not a great mom," he added. "Plain and simple, to be honest. She just doesn't do motherly things that you're supposed to do. She's not very warm and open. You can't really change her beliefs or anything and that's just a pain in the a to deal with."

Alex came across very well in his interview but he may feel less kindly towards his mother and grandfather as time goes on. I feel angry on his behalf. They denied him a lot; his teenage experience where many lifelong friendships are formed, his right to an education as well as tearing him from his beloved grandmother causing her enormous heartache. They denied him stablility and rather than give him freedom, required him to do a lot of unskilled, low paid work from his early teens. All the while he was exposed to his mother's loopy world view. He appears resilient and I suspect he will succeed but I do hope this pair are brought to justice because what they did was both illegal and morally wrong.

He's very interested in college apparently. My concern is that he's so far behind educationally that he either won't be admitted to a college or will be admitted but won't be able to do the work. Caveat: I'm in the US, so not sure how this all works in the UK.

Yes, he has lost a great deal of ground and will have to make that up somehow. The college course is probably something like a computing coding course to get his foot in the door but he will need a specially tailored programme. College doesn't mean the same in the UK as the US and some college courses here provide basic skills. He survived off the Harry Potter box set when he was away which will have helped to shape his world view - never give up no matter how hard it gets, be a good person etc. If he needs more specialist help, it wouldn't surprise me if JK Rowling stepped in at some point. Her organisation Lumos does wonderful work for children worldwide.
There are various access courses pre university - hopefully things will work out for him. At the moment, he's enjoying being normal, going to watch Manchester United play and such things.

I hope the media interest continues to die down and when he goes to college he can become a standard teen, but the amount of media coverage means it might be hard for him to blend in. I can only hope if he handles any nasty stuff with head held high it will all blow over quickly if that does happen. I wish him a wonderful future. JMO MOO.
