Hunter Biden indicted, federal gun charges, Sept 2023

WashingtonCNN —

New testimony from a number of FBI and Internal Revenue Service officials casts doubt on key claims from an IRS whistleblower who allegesthere was political interference in the federal criminal investigation of Hunter Biden’s taxes.
According to transcripts provided to CNN, several FBI and IRS officials brought in for closed-door testimony by House Republicans in recent days said they don’t remember US Attorney David Weiss saying that he lacked the authority to decide whether to bring charges against the president’s son, or that Weiss said he had been denied a request for special counsel status.

Those twin claims, made by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, form the basis of Republican accusations that the Justice Department’s investigation into Biden’s taxes was tainted by political influence and that Weiss and Attorney General Merrick Garland tried to protect Hunter Biden in the investigation.
The new testimony comes as House Republicans begin an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and his family, potentially undercutting one element of that effort

...

I was looking at information about HB, and didn't realize that he is a celebrated artist. He has sold paintings for over $850,000! Amazing.

...
I didn't realize he painted either. I must say that I do like his work though.

Not that I'd pay 850K for it ... or for a Van Gough becuase I just don't have that kind of cash laying around. :(

Maybe this style appeals to Jared and Ivanka; he's got a couple billion to spare. Wonder what the Saudi's got for that? At least someone got a painting out of their 850K.

NBC News: Hunter Biden has sued Rudy Giuliani and his attorney Robert Costello over allegations that they wrongfully accessed Biden’s personal information after receiving a hard drive from a Delaware computer repair shop.

As an example, they pointed to an episode of Giuliani’s podcast ‘America’s Mayor Live’ in February 2023. According to the lawsuit, in a video of the podcast, Giuliani “held up a laptop computer on camera and announced: ‘This belongs to Hunter Biden.’”

“He proceeded to brag about having copied Plaintiff’s data onto his own computer and about having accessed, analyzed and manipulated the transferred data,” the lawsuit states.

The suit accuses Giuliani and Costello of breaking both federal and California state computer privacy laws and asks for a jury trial in the matter.

U.S. Attorney for Central California E. Martin Estrada told Congress that the prosecutor leading the probe into Hunter Biden had full authority to pursue criminal tax charges in California against the president's son, but declined any partnership with his office, according to records reviewed by CBS News that have not been publicly released.

Sorry for the cross post, but I am very interested in the federal gun charges against Hunter Biden. He purchased a gun. Filled out federal declaration, and signed legal documents, that he declared he was not using illegal drugs. When, he has later admitted, he was addicted to cocaine at the time.

It is similar to the same situation as the mother of a six year old child, who used her gun to shoot his teacher. She was recently sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for the same exact things.

Just a hunch, but I doubt the mother would've been in trouble for the same charge if her kid hadn't shot his teacher with her gun. Not saying it's okay to break any law, but at least in this case, nobody was shot.

But shouldn't she have had the same consequences? We can't just say "no blood, no foul." Every time there is a shooting people cry out "why wasn't something done sooner?" This is the sooner. Do we need to wait until Hunter or someone else accidentally shoots someone to charge them with their crime?

The issue is..."in the details"...

"Deja Taylor pleaded guilty in June to two federal charges – the unlawful use of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm and making a false statement while purchasing the firearm – as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. She was sentenced to 21 months on each count, and the judge ordered them to be served concurrently, according to her attorney."

This is exactly what Hunter Biden did. It has nothing to do with the child using the gun. The charges were;

1. Unlawful use of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm.

2. Making a false statement while purchasing a firearm.

Exactly what Hunter Biden has done.

Now, if we want to talk about "privilege" in the United States, and that no one is above the law, then I want to know why Hunter Biden has not been charged with the exact same crimes as Deja Taylor.

We seem willing to wait on others with firearms to commit a crime with the weapon before anything is done.

imho, that is the point of the permit, keeping firearms out of certain hands.

Think about -- if RC jr hadn't committed the crime of falsifying his son RC III's Illinois firearm form -- we would not know either of their names:

If the permits, including Hunter Biden's, don't matter, why waste time & money on the process at all?

Special Counsel David Weiss has filed new charges against first son Hunter Biden, according to a report.

The court documents in the new case are still under seal, and it is unclear what charges will soon be leveled against President Biden’s 53-year-old son, according to CNN.

Good! Tax charges in California so Daddy can't pardon. Bravo!

Hunter Biden was indicted on nine tax charges in California on Thursday as a special counsel investigation into the business dealings of the president's son intensifies against the backdrop of the looming 2024 election.

The new charges — three felonies and six misdemeanors — come in addition to federal firearms charges in Delaware alleging Hunter Biden broke a law against drug users having guns in 2018.

From your link. Gee, I wonder why:

It added that he had instead spent huge sums "on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature" including over $70,000 on drug rehabilitation.

A lawyer for Hunter Biden did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The White House declined to comment.

During that time, Hunter Biden also earned income from numerous other sources that have since come under the scrutiny of the GOP, many of which he failed to pay taxes on despite making significant income.

That includes a deal with CEFC, a Chinese energy company, where Hunter Biden earned $100,000 per month and a one-time retainer fee of $500,000.

“The Defendant had a legal obligation to pay taxes on all his income, including income earned in Ukraine from his service on Burisma’s Board, fees generated by deal-making with the Chinese private equity fund, as well as income derived from his work as a lawyer and other sources,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.

I wonder why all these foreign entities did business with a person who is drug addicted and out of control like Hunter Biden.

Even though he had the money to pay taxes he ignored his responsibilities. It almost has to be because of his father and the influence that Hunter provided. JMO.

Interesting. I wonder if he paid taxes on the income he received from his paintings. He appears to be a prolific artist. Some of his work has sold for over $500,000. Hunter is an absolute Renaissance man!
