GUILTY IL - Deborah Dewey, 62, Ladd, 22 Aug 2016 *Arrest*

Friend or killer? Lawyers paint different faces of Cliff Andersen

"HENNEPIN — Prosecutors tried painting Clifford Andersen as a cold, calculating killer whose gambling debts prompted him to murder his sister-in-law and then bury her body.

Defense attorneys painted an altogether different picture during opening statements Wednesday. Lawyers for Andersen said he and the late Deb Dewey were close and that Andersen supported her through illness and, drawing on his skills as a union negotiator, ensured she received a fair settlement in her divorce....

But after jury selection was concluded in a faster-than-expected two days, prosecutors now think their case-in-chief will be finished within five days. If that pace holds, Andersen and his lawyers will present their case the middle of next week."

Murder trial moves into 2nd day of testimony

July 13, 2018

"...Witnesses testifying early on Thursday included Marcelo Castaneda and David Johnson. Castaneda is an employee of Johnson's Pharmacy, which is owned by Johnson, in Spring Valley. Their testimony established some of Dewey's final actions on the day which she was last seen alive. ...

Manure was found covering the shallow grave of Dewey, and Andersen is also on surveillance footage purchasing multiple large bags of manure. A bag of the same brand of manure was also found near where the body was located.

Andersen told his wife that he'd been riding horses with a friend, Jack Sims. Sims testified he hadn't seen Andersen in years and that he hadn't ridden a horse since he was 16-years-old. The defense, led by Drew and Rob Parker, of Parker and Parker Law Firm, of Peoria, had no questions for Sims. ..."
