GUILTY IL - Kaitlyn 'Katie' Kearns, 24, fatally shot, Joliet, 11 Nov 2017 *Arrest*

The suspect charged, Jeremy was in court today with his wife as they both cried (unknown as to why they were crying). We were there and while there is an attempt from the defense side to claim she killed herself... ballistic results came back today, though they have not been expressed in detail until the next court date. The family and friends are afraid to report via the media because they do not want their words switched, confused or mispoken.

Thanks ChicagoCrimeSearch.

I checked for updates of today's court hearing and haven't seen anything yet. I did find this article from April 30th:

A [defense atttorney's] pretrial filings indicate Kearns died from a single gunshot inside the Joliet Outlaws clubhouse during the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 13, 2017. Toxicology reports later revealed that Kearns had several drugs and alcohol in her system. Her blood alcohol concentration was 0.212. Her drug screen tested positive for cocaine, cocaine metabolites, Alprazolam (which is Xanax), Oxcarbazepine and Citalopram.

Earlier this month, the defense lawyer asked Will County Judge to allow for tests on several unknown pills recovered from the dead woman's purse. Additionally, Kearns had prescriptions from Silver Cross for Alprazolam, Oxcarbazepine and Quetiapine.

Prosecutors argue the pills were not at all relevant to the key facts surrounding the young woman's murder.

Wow - that's a boatload of drugs in the system. Alprazolam, Oxcarbazepine, Quetiapine, and Citalopram all carry risks of suicidal thoughts and aren’t to be combined with alcohol. I can see why the defense wants that admitted. Hopefully, Joplin has some decent ballistic folks and they tested her hands for GSR.

Next month marks three years since Jeremy Boshears was booked into the Will County Jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with the gunshot death of Woody's bartender Katie Kearns on Joliet's industrial east side.

Boshears, a member of the Joliet Outlaws motorcycle club at the time, retained Joliet's premier law firm for clients facing first-degree murder charges in Will County — Charles Bretz & Associates. That was back in November 2017.

Last week, Bretz told Joliet Patch that he does not envision Boshears will be standing trial until sometime in 2021. Boshears was 32 at the time of his arrest. Now, the Coal City resident is 35.

His bail remains $10 million.

47 Murder Defendants In Will County Await Trial: Slow Justice?

Joliet Patch reported in April 2018 that Bretz and Neil Patel were pursuing an alternative scenario, suggesting that Katie Kearns fatally shot herself inside the Joliet Outlaws clubhouse while she was high on drugs. Kearns was getting mental health treatment in Downers Grove and in Riverside around the time of her death, Patel stated. According to Patel's pretrial filing, "a good faith argument exists where the victim ... took her own life by raising a gun to her head and angled her head towards the gun and committed suicide, allowing the bullet to travel upwards into the ceiling. The defendant-alleged subsequent actions may have flowed from a fear that no one would believe what really happened."
